Abstract
In the October 1971 edition of Industrial and Commercial Training Tony Matthews, producer of the new BBC series CONFLICT AT WORK, discussed the general scheme for the ten programmes and the philosophy behind them. I have now had a chance to view four of the programmes in film form, the format in which many are likely to see them once the second series of afternoon transmissions has been concluded by the BBC. Some, indeed, might well see them in film form during this period, either in order to fit them in to a more convenient time or as an opportunity to have a follow‐up viewing after one or more of the television transmissions.

Abstract
Purpose
Museums and academics collaborating to create knowledge and learning opportunities is a current innovative strand of museum theory and practice. Working together across boundaries, incorporating a range of communication tools both inside and outside of the exhibition, the objective is to make the past more accessible to adults and children alike. The paper reflects the authors’ respective recent experiences of presenting alternative perspectives and interpretations on history that mattered, namely, a unique exhibition and publication entitled Recovery: Women’s Overseas Service in World War One. The authors offer a number of “signposts” for museums and academics to consider ahead of embarking on collaborative projects. The paper aims to discuss these issues.
Design/methodology/approach
Theorising and reflecting on the research and curation of a public history museum exhibition that included high levels of community engagement.
Findings
The authors offer a number of “signposts” for museums and academics to consider ahead of embarking on collaborative projects utilising a collective impact framework and argue that these “signposts” are likely pre-requisites for successful museum-academic partnerships.
Originality/value
Successful partnerships and collaborations between the museum and the tertiary sector do not happen through goodwill and shared philosophies alone. This paper reflects the authors’ respective recent experiences of presenting alternative perspectives and interpretations on history that mattered, namely, a unique exhibition and publication entitled Recovery: Women’s Overseas Service in World War One.

Abstract
We once did a television series for managers about the theory and practice of modern marketing. In one of the programmes we had Chris Chataway driving into the studio in a Ford Edsel car, the classic commercial flop of all time. The programme proceeded to tell the audience the kind of marketing strategies to use if Edsel‐type failures were to be avoided in launching new products. Finding out what the customer needs; planning and designing the product; testing it on the market; promoting it and selling it; distributing and advertising it—such was the marketing catechism you had to practise if you were to minimise the risks of profit‐less or even disastrous innovation. It was not enough to make a better mousetrap and expect customers to beat a path to your door.

Abstract
Building a new vehicle paint plant is a major task in any situation. When construction has to take place in parallel with the destruction of the old plant while still maintaining a level of production, the job becomes monumental. Planning has to be precise and execution clinical if target dates and budget costs are to be met.

Abstract
IN the 25 years that this journal has been published the whole aspect of work study has changed. Once it was time and motion study. Today it is indeed more close to our title: WORK STUDY. For the plain fact is that the job we cover and expound is now the whole gamut of the study of every aspect of work. No longer is this confined to methods of getting more work (admittedly with less fatigue) out of the hours actually worked. Today the accent is on worker participation and job satisfaction.

Abstract
IN RECENT YEARS THE CENTRAL FILM LIBRARY HAS ADDED TO the impressive list of titles in its industrial film catalogue by acquiring for film distribution series which first appeared on television. Indeed it may have been such a move, added to the steady flow of enquiries for the loan of film versions of television programmes, that persuaded ‘Auntie’ belatedly to set up Television Enterprises and very recently to offer some of their teaching films for hire as well as sale.

Abstract
PARLIAMENT passed the Equal Pay Act in 1970 and it comes into full force at the end of 1975. In the meantime a Government order could increase the pay of women to at least 90 per cent of men's by December 31st next year. Like other legislative forays into the industrial world in recent years, this Act, despite its deceptively simple title, bristles with problems and will greatly change the country's economic life.

Abstract
Information provided by the vendors of nine text based package systems is presented in a standard format. Features which are now generally accepted as ‘necessary’ are identified, and the areas of difference between the various package systems are discussed. Criteria are proposed for package selection by prospective users. The packages are ADP/3RIP, ASSASSIN 6, BASIS, CAIRS, DECO, DOCU/MASTER, INFOText, SEARCH and STATUS.

Abstract
Purpose
People with intellectual disability face extensive health inequality and premature mortality. Medical students have reported that they lack the skills, knowledge and confidence to work with those with intellectual disability and autism. This emphasises the need for tomorrow’s doctors to be adequately trained. This study aims to investigate students’ knowledge, skills and attitudes towards people with intellectual disability and autism, examining whether these outcomes change following curricula re-design and with implementation of an e-learning module.
Design/methodology/approach
The university curricula in intellectual disability and autism were re-designed and an e-learning module developed using co-production. This was delivered to fourth-year medical students with a subgroup receiving the additional e-learning. A controlled trial evaluated students’ knowledge, skills and attitudes using pre- and post-questionnaires. Statistical tests of difference were used to the scores obtained.
Findings
This study showed an improvement in knowledge, skills and attitudes with intellectual disability and autism after curricula engagement, with an incremental benefit observed for students also completing the e-learning module. There was significant difference in pre-and-post placement scores assessing student attitudes towards intellectual disability and autism teaching.
Originality/value
This study highlights the importance of a multi-faceted, co-produced curricula re-design in intellectual disability and autism. The benefit of the e-learning module holds hope that the newly introduced mandatory Oliver McGowan training will be beneficial in the development of tomorrow’s doctors. Effective training in intellectual disability and autism is vital to improve the care and support delivered and reduce unnecessary deaths.
