Abstract
Purpose
Total risk score (TRS) is considered one of the main indicators for risk evaluation. Several studies attempted to employ different types of risk indices for the evaluation of cost overrun causes. Hence, this study aims at performing a comparative analysis to evaluate the efficiency of three different approaches for TRS calculation.
Design/methodology/approach
Thirty-eight unique causes of cost overrun in urban-related construction projects were identified and a survey was conducted among construction professionals in Iran. The TRS for each cost overrun cause is calculated using single-attribute (SA), double-attribute (DA), and multiple-attribute (MA) approaches, and eventually, causes were ranked. Furthermore, principal component analysis (PCA), logistic regression analysis (LRA), and K-means clustering are utilized to compare the differences in the generated TRS using different approaches.
Findings
The results revealed that the TRS generated through the MA approach demonstrated the highest efficiency in terms of generating correlation between causes and their identified latent constructs, prediction capability, and classification of the influential causes in the same group.
Originality/value
The originality of this study primarily stems from the adoption of statistical approaches in the evaluation of the recently introduced TRS calculation approach in comparison to traditional ones. Additionally, this study proposed a modified application of the relative importance index (RII) for risk prioritization. The results from this study are expected to fulfill the gap in previous literature toward exploring the most efficient TRS calculation approach for those researchers and practitioners who seek to utilize them as a measure to identify the influential cost overrun causes.

Abstract
Purpose
Various approaches and algorithms have been proposed since the 1950s to solve the assembly line (AL) balancing problem. These methods have established an AL configuration from the beginning. However, a prebalanced AL may have to be rebalanced in real life for many reasons, such as changes in the cycle time, production demand, product features or task operation times. This problem has increasingly attracted the interest of scientists in recent years. This study aims to offer a detailed review of the assembly line rebalancing problems (ALRBPs) to provide a better insight into the theoretical and practical applications of ALRBPs.
Design/methodology/approach
A structured database search was conducted, and 41 ALRBP papers published between 2005 and 2022 were classified based on the problem structure, objective functions, problem constraints, reasons for rebalancing, solution approaches and type of data used for solution evaluation. Finally, future research directions were identified and recommended.
Findings
Single model, straight lines with deterministic task times were the most studied type of the ALRBPs. Eighteen percent of the studies solved worker assignment problems together with ALRBP. Product demand and cycle time changes were the leading causes of the rebalancing need. Furthermore, seven future research opportunities were suggested.
Originality/value
Although there are many review studies on AL balancing problems, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, there have been no attempts to review the studies on ALRBPs.

Abstract
Purpose
Proposing a fuzzy multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) algorithm that is able to incorporate the heterogeneousness effect of DM group into the decision process, in order to determine the best remotely operated vehicle (ROV) design alternative to manufacture and developing a practical decision aid tool based on this algorithm. The paper aims to discuss these issues.
Design/methodology/approach
An algorithm utilizes fuzzy AHP Buckley’s approach for modeling heterogeneousness of the DM group, fuzzy AHP Chang’s extent analysis to calculate the priority values of criteria and Chen’s fuzzy TOPSIS for ranking the alternatives and finally group working technique for initiation issues is developed. MATLAB is used to implement the algorithm and generate a decision aid tool. Real life application and sensitivity analysis is performed by the help of generated tool. Literature and background explanations are also provided.
Findings
A MCDM algorithm that incorporates the heterogeneousness effect of the DM group into the decision process is introduced. Sensitivity analysis suggested the independence of the final result from DM group and criteria set. A practical decision aid tool is generated for ROV manufacturing companies.
Practical implications
A computerized MCDM aid tool that incorporates heterogeneousness of the DM group into the decision process is generated. Tool let ROV manufacturing companies to evaluate ROV design alternatives with respect to qualitative and quantitative criteria and determine proper choice.
Originality/value
Determination of the proper ROV design alternative to manufacture gap within the literature filled with an algorithm that provides more reliable results due to its incorporation the heterogeneousness of the DM group into the decision process characteristic. A practical decision aid tool is generated.

Purpose
The aim of this article is to show how Taguchi methods can be applied to health care.
Design/methodology/approach
The quadratic loss function is at the heart of Taguchi methods. It is a powerful motivator for a quality strategy and can be used to adequately model the loss to society in health care. It also establishes a relationship between cost and variability. Therefore, it can be integrated with the performance and parameters of the design of medical applications. Signal‐to‐noise ratios give a sense of how close is the performance to the ideal. By maximizing the signal‐to‐noise ratio, quality‐engineering activities can be aimed at identifying near‐optimum levels of factors and making quality equal to zero.
Findings
This article shows that, when the patients' requirements are consistently met, lower losses can provide an impetus to improve patient satisfaction.
Originality/value
The article outlines areas in health care where Taguchi methods can easily be applied.

Abstract
Purpose
In this study, financial performance evaluation model is developed for banks aims to measure and compare the performances of banks based on their financial ratios.
Design/methodology/approach
Regression-AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process)-VIKOR (Vise Kriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje) integrated methodology is used. First, a literature review is done to find various bank performance measurement models with their financial metrics being compared. Then, pair-wise comparison matrices are used to find the relative weights of criteria (financial ratios) and finally VIKOR method is used to rank the banks.
Findings
It is believed that an AHP-based VIKOR framework helps to take up the explicit account of multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) methodologies in decision making and for selecting the best bank in the Turkish economy.
Research limitations/implications
In this paper, only selected financial ratios are used and analyzed for the multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method.
Originality/value
The systematic solution procedure of performance evaluating the banks helps the decision-makers to carry out performance evaluation studies for improving economic and managerial performance. This comparative study and analysis of bank performance using the regression-AHP-VIKOR combined model is presented for the first time. The authors have not become aware of any such studies in their literature review. This paper is an original framework of the application of the regression-AHP-VIKOR on the various financial performance metrics.

Abstract
Purpose
This study analyses the factors that can influence the quality of service provided by the bus rapid transit (BRT) system in the state of Pernambuco. It is incipient, considering that the system was implemented in this state in 2014 to the World cup. In this context, the purpose of this paper is to identify the factors considered important for the services provided by this system and their impact on perceived quality.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors analyzed the data using exploratory factorial analysis, and linear and quantile regression techniques. Regarding the classification, this research is applied, exploratory, descriptive and in the form of a case study describing the situation experienced by the users of BRT in Pernambuco.
Findings
The results showed that it was possible to identify five factors that impact the level of satisfaction of the offered services: fluency in the provision of the service; staff training; physical conditions in the provision of the service; convenience/accessibility; and integration between transport lines.
Originality/value
With initial identification, factors 1, 3, 4 and 5 have been found to have an impact on overall service quality in a positive and statistically significant way. Factors 3 and 4 have a different impact with high- and low-quality standard perceived by users, and these should be the guiding elements by companies in establishing actions to improve the services offered.

Abstract
Purpose
Pharmaceutical supply chains (PSCs) need a well-operating and faultless logistics system to successfully store and distribute their medicines. Hospitals, health institutes, and pharmacies must maintain extra stock to respond requirements of the patients. Nevertheless, there is an inverse correlation between the level of medicine stock and logistics service level. The high stock level held by health institutions indicates that we have not sufficiently excellent logistics systems presently. As such, selecting appropriate logistics service providers (drug distributors) is crucial and strategic for PSCs. However, this is difficult for decision-makers, as highly complex situations and conflicting criteria influence such evaluation processes. So, a robust, applicable, and strong methodological frame is required to solve these decision-making problems.
Design/methodology/approach
To achieve this challenging issue, the authors develop and apply an integrated entropy-WASPAS methodology with Fermatean fuzzy sets for the first time in the literature. The evaluation process takes place in two stages, as in traditional multi-criteria problems. In the first stage, the importance levels of the criteria are determined by the FF-entropy method. Afterwards, the FF-WASPAS approach ranks the alternatives.
Findings
The feasibility of the proposed model is also supported by a case study where six companies are evaluated comprehensively regarding ten criteria. Herewith, total warehouse capacity, number of refrigerated vehicles, and personnel are the top three criteria that significantly influence the evaluation of pharmaceutical distribution and warehousing companies. Further, a comprehensive sensitivity analysis proves the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed approach.
Practical implications
The proposed multi-attribute decision model quantitatively aids managers in selecting logistics service providers considering imprecisions in the multi-criteria decision-making process.
Originality/value
A new model has been developed to present a sound mathematical model for selecting logistics service providers consisting of Fermatean fuzzy entropy and WASPAS methods. The paper's main contribution is presenting a comprehensive and more robust model for the ex ante evaluation and ranking of providers.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to present a detailed literature review of the recent applications of the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and analytic network process (ANP) group decision‐making methodologies.
Design/methodology/approach
Among more than 600 related papers published in the period 2005‐2009, a total of 232 application articles published in highly reputed international academic journals were selected and referenced in this paper. Papers were categorized according to application areas, subject titles, publication date, country of origin, academic journals, and integrated methodologies, and are summarized herein by various tables and charts.
Findings
The findings show that during the years 2005‐2009, use of the AHP technique has continued to increase exponentially. Moreover, it is expected that ANP will gain more popularity in the future, as the benefits of ANP become better understood. Applications of AHP have been dominant in manufacturing, followed by the environmental management and agriculture field, power and energy industry, transportation industry, construction industry, and healthcare. Other remarkable application fields include education, logistics, e‐business, IT, R&D, telecommunication industry, finance and banking, urban management, defense industry and military, government, marketing, tourism and leisure, archaeology, auditing, and the mining industry.
Research limitations/implications
The study does not consider theoretical based AHP or ANP articles. Also the search excluded conference proceedings, masters' theses, and doctoral dissertations.
Practical implications
It is hoped that this study will guide practitioners in future work towards advancement of these techniques and will help the managers to select better decisions by making use of these methodologies.
Originality/value
The paper presents a comprehensive literature review of recent applications of AHP, and also ANP decision tools over the period 2005‐2009. Furthermore, the paper covers fuzzy AHP and fuzzy ANP extensions that are becoming popular methods in some application areas of traditional AHP and ANP.
