Examines the financial provisions of the European Social Fund (ESF) for people with disabilities, in the United Kingdom. Provides some quantification of funds provided for the period 1990‐1992 and explains how these funds are administered and distributed. Begins with an examination of the employment and unemployment profiles of people with disabilities in the United Kingdom and concludes with an assessment of the ultimate effect of these expenditures on the employment prospects of people with disabilities.

Abstract
Considers the implications for the training of people with disabilities of the shift towards a new system for the delivery of publicly funded training schemes, based upon Training and Enterprise Councils (TECs). People with disabilities face a number of barriers to labour market participation, which may be partly overcome through the provision of appropriate training. The TEC initiative, in principle, creates a framework within which such schemes can be tailored to meet local needs. However, the way that the TECs have been set up and funded in practice has a number of features which might militate against such developments: TEC strategies are dominated by employer interests, with relatively little involvement by voluntary organizations or representatives of people with disabilities; the output‐related funding system implies an incentive to downgrade provision for those who have a lower probability of obtaining jobs or qualifications as a result of training – the evidence suggests that people with disabilities generally fall into this group; the mechanisms by which the obligations of TECs towards people with disabilities are monitored are relatively weak. Concludes by suggesting that the chances of a person with a disability receiving appropriate training may in future depend upon the TEC area in which s/he lives. This scenario should be avoided at all costs.

This chapter will argue that the representation of mental illness in The Archers is unrepresentative in a number of ways. Sufferers of long-term mental health problems are not portrayed in the programme and mental illness is often used as a narrative device, leading to a bias towards circumstantial, single-episode mental ill health storylines. This chapter will also cover the portrayal of Helen Archer’s mental health during and after suffering emotional and physical abuse at the hands of her ex-husband, arguing that it suffers from a number of shortcomings.

Abstract
Purpose
Work intensity causes employee stress. This paper demonstrates that off-the-job embeddedness (OffJE), a potential source of social support resources, buffers the negative effect of work intensity on employee stress.
Design/methodology/approach
Guided by conservation of resources (COR) and job embeddedness theory (JET), this paper reports on the moderated regression analysis of the survey responses of 385 adult employees from a variety of industries in Queensland, Australia, using a student-recruited sampling strategy.
Findings
Higher levels of work intensity were found to be associated with higher levels of employee stress. However, this effect was weaker for employees who had higher OffJE. In this sample, work intensity has no relationship with stress for employees who report OffJE beyond the 70th percentile.
Originality/value
This paper demonstrates the positive role of outside workplace relationships embodied in OffJE on workplace employee experience, justifies employer work-life balance initiatives and community involvement, demonstrates the potential positive return for employer involvement in helping employees manage the experience of work intensity and contributes to the social support, COR and job embeddedness literature studies.

Design/methodology/approach
This paper introduces and annotates English-language periodical articles, monographs, dissertations and other materials on library instruction and IL published in 2015.
Findings
This paper provides information about each source, describes the characteristics of current scholarship and highlights sources that contain either unique or significant scholarly contributions.
Originality/value
The information may be used by librarians and interested parties as a quick reference to literature on library instruction and IL.
