Abstract

Purpose

Employees behaviour is an important factor need to be reviewed while considering the implementation of green practices in the organisations. Green employee behaviour is widely discussed area both in research and practice, as organisations look for more green practices and environment friendly approaches. This study aims to understand the association of green values, green attitude and green behaviour of information technology (IT) employees in India.

Design/methodology/approach

Data were collected from 334 employees who works in IT/ITES (Information Technology Enabled Services) organisations in India. For analysing the data, structural equation modelling was used.

Findings

The significant positive relationships were revealed in the associations of green values, green attitude and green behaviour. Green attitude found to be mediating the relationship between the green values and green behaviour. The study also explored the moderating roles of green culture and green HRM practices.

Originality/value

The study stands among the pioneers that discuss green perspectives of IT employees in an emerging economy context. The study can give remarkable inputs for organisations that try for environment friendly practices and its successful implementation.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to examine the nexus of social support (SS), work–life balance (WLB) and satisfaction with life (SWL) in hybrid work (HW) scenario in learning organizations.

Design/methodology/approach

The data were collected via questionnaire method from 531 employees working in learning organizations (IT/ITES sector) in India. The hypotheses were tested using hierarchical regression.

Findings

The findings of the study showed that HW was positively related to SS dimensions, WLB and SWL. Further, the study established the mediating role of SS between HW and WLB as well as WLB as a mediator between HW-SWL relationships.

Research limitations/implications

This study has certain limitations owing to the cross-sectional nature of the data and the specific sector under study. The findings have significant implications for policy making to determine the conditions under which both employees and organizations can benefit from HW. Further, the study has implications for uncertain and volatile environments as had been created by COVID-19 pandemic, where HW arrangements may not be a choice but become necessity.

Originality/value

This study contributes to the conservation of resources theory. It identifies the importance of true autonomy and flexibility for employees.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to test the cognitive construct of optimism (positive future outcome expectancies) and the age-gender differences in Indian sample.

Design/methodology/approach

The sample consists of 363 older, middle-aged and younger male and female employees. The study adopted a cross-sectional survey based research design.

Findings

Results revealed that middle-aged employees have high levels of optimism as compared to the old age and younger employees. Further, the males reflected high optimism levels in comparison to female employees in middle and old aged adult employees, whereas females have higher optimism level in younger age in Indian select organisations.

Research limitations/implications

The study suggests that the continuous changes in the lifespan lead to changes in one’s attitude and hence results in behavioural changes. The research indicates that optimism should be cultivated in the individuals by providing training and development to promote the competence and skill-building events which would help in enhancing the productivity resulting in better understanding of the scenario at workplace.

Originality/value

The work supplements the existing literature on positive attitude or outcome expectancies by adding to the lifespan development theory.

Purpose

This paper exemplifies the role of emotional intelligence (EI) achieving subjective career success in the global knowledge industry.

Design/methodology/approach

Discussion based on the literature, report, and industry experts.

Findings

EI can be used as an effective tool to influence the attributes of subjective career success such as job satisfaction, new skill acquisition, work-life balance, healthy relationship with peers and pride in work. Employees feel empowered and successful in their careers if their social ability, emotionality, self-control, well-being and, expressed behavior are properly taken care of by their organizations.

Originality/value

This paper introduces a new factor expressed behavior in EI model and suggests various strategies to enhance EI and achieve subjective career success in the knowledge industry.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to revisit the properties of 24-item version of mindfulness scale proposed by Bohlmeijer et al. (2011) in an Indian context to add to the existing global knowledge base on mindfulness.

Design/methodology/approach

A questionnaire was administered to 531 adult employees working in the IT/ITES sector in India. Their responses were analysed using exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and validity statistics to validate the Indian adaptation of the five-facet mindfulness questionnaire (FFMQ).

Findings

The findings confirmed that the Indian version of the 24-item short form of the FFMQ (denoted as FFMQ-SF) matches the findings of Bohlmeijer et al. (2011). It can, therefore, provide valuable insights to both employees and management on the benefits of mindfulness in the workplace.

Research limitations/implications

This paper also presents the limitations of this work along with scholarly and practical implications. It enhances the global understanding of mindfulness, with applications in education, health and well-being, workplaces, social justice, spirituality and personal growth.

Originality/value

This study justifies and presents a unique instrument for assessing employee mindfulness and is beneficial for both management and employees in navigating the evolving hybrid work environment. It promotes present-moment awareness in a non-judgemental manner, facilitating perspective shifts, improved self-regulation and experiential acceptance. Additionally, the study affirms the five-dimensional structure underlying the mindfulness construct.

Abstract

Purpose

Schools provide high priorities to offer innovative curricular and cocurricular programs, and leaders make necessary efforts to promote enablers and overcome disablers for sustaining their innovativeness. With the background of quality management and stakeholder theories, the present study examines the interplay of hindrances to quality between empowering leadership, stakeholder involvement and organizational innovativeness.

Design/methodology/approach

Responses of 157 American school principals collected through the Teaching and Learning International Survey 2018 by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development were used and analyzed to test the proposed hypotheses.

Findings

Results show that empowering leadership behaviors of school principals support promoting organizational innovativeness, and involvement of stakeholders with the school activities also promotes organizational innovativeness. Interestingly, when American schools faced a high level of hindrance to providing quality education to their students, principals’ high level of empowering leadership behaviors promoted organizational innovativeness.

Originality/value

This is the first time in the literature that the interplay between empowering leadership, stakeholder involvement and hindrance of quality education has been examined to promote organizational innovativeness.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper was to validate the short version of personal optimism and self-efficacy optimism scale developed by Gavrilov-Jerkovic et al. (2014) on a sample of 398 employees working in private and public sector organizations in India.

Design/methodology/approach

The study needs to test the psychometric properties of the Indian version of scale by using exploratory factor analysis, convergent validity, discriminant validity and confirmatory factor analysis.

Findings

The results supported for the two-dimensional factor-structure of optimism in consonance with Gavrilov-Jerkovic et al. (2014).

Research limitations/implications

The findings will benefit both the management and the employees. Also, the study expands the existing literature on the variable in the Indian context.

Originality/value

The work validates and provides a unique instrument to measure the employee optimism that can help the management and the employees to focus on themselves to increase the positivity to provide an innovative and creative environment. Also, the work supplements the existing literature on positive attitude or outcome expectancies and helps in establishing the bi-dimensional nature of the construct of optimism.
