Abstract
Purpose
A two switches non-isolated DC-DC novel buck-boost converter for charging the battery of electric vehicle is projected in this paper. The performance of the converter is compared with conventional buck-boost and transformer-less P/O buck-boost converter by Shan and Faqiang. The detail operation and performance analysis of the proposed converter is described both in continuous conduction mode and discontinuous conduction mode. A state space model and simulation model is designed in MATLAB. The PID controller parameters are tuned using Single-objective Salp swarm optimization algorithm using MATLAB. The controller is implemented using DSP board. The hardware and simulation results are projected in the paper to validate the effectiveness of the proposed buck-boost converter. A comparison analysis is projected among conventional converter and Shan & Faqiang converter.
Design/methodology/approach
The converter state space model is designed and simulation model is also developed in MATALAB. The controller is implemented using DSP board. The parameters are obtained using optimization technique using SSA algorithm. The hardware design is also implemented, and the result is compared with the Shan and Faqiang converter. The efficiency of the converter is also tested.
Findings
The converter is providing a higher efficiency. The inductor current is also positive in both buck and boost mode. The robustness of the controller is better for a wide range of variation of input voltage because the output voltage remains almost constant. Therefore, this is very suitable for battery charging and PV module application.
Practical implications
For battery charging from PV module where voltage fluctuation is frequent.
Social implications
The authors can use household applications to charge the battery using PV module.
Originality/value
The converter design concept is new. Optimization is used to find the parameters of the controllers and is implemented in hardware design. The parameters obtained provide robustness in the converter performance.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to propose a unique algorithm-based hysteresis current control technique (HCCT) for induction motor using a single-phase voltage source inverter (SPVSI) to eliminate both sub and inter harmonics (SIH) and electromagnetic interference (EMI). The total harmonic distortion (THD) of the load current also reduces in comparison to standard HCCT and modified technique-based existing HCCT.
Design/methodology/approach
Matlab simulation has been carried out to develop an SPVSI model and the unique algorithm-based HCCT. The same platform has also been used to develop a few existing HCCTs such as standard, dual-band and modified. The switching frequency and harmonic analysis of load currents for all the HCCTs have been compared in the paper. The hardware implementation of the proposed algorithm-based HCCT was also verified and compared with the simulation results.
Findings
The proposed unique algorithm-based HCCT provides the benefits of both unipolar and bipolar switching techniques. It reduces the switching frequency as unipolar switching scheme and eliminates the EMI. It also reduces THD and nullifies SIH of the load current. This enables an improvement in the overall performance and efficiency of the motor.
Practical implications
This proposed HCCT eliminates the SIH and improves the overall efficiency of the motor, hence can prevent overheating, vibration, acoustic noise, pulsating torque and braking of the rotor shaft of the motor and increasing the reliability of the system.
Social implications
It can be implemented for the motors that are used in household applications and electric vehicles through one-phase inverter.
Originality/value
This proposed HCCT has detected the zero crossing point of reference current, allowed samples and shifted the necessary amount of hysteresis band at zero crossing region to eliminate SIH and THD.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aimed to explore the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) characteristics, namely Perceived Animacy (PAN), perceived intelligence (PIN), and perceived anthropomorphism (PAI), on user satisfaction (ESA) and continuous intentions (CIN) by integrating Expectation Confirmation Theory (ECT), with a particular focus on Generation Y and Z.
Design/methodology/approach
Using a quantitative method, the study collected 495 data from Gen Y (204) and Z (291) respondents who were users of digital banking apps through structured questionnaires that were analysed using PLS-SEM. The latter helped investigate the driving forces of AI characteristics and user behavioural intentions as well as reveal generation-specific features of digital banking engagement.
Findings
The study revealed that PAN and PIN have significant positive effects on the anthropomorphic perceptions of digital banking apps, which in turn increases perceived usefulness, satisfaction, and continuous intentions. In particular, the influence of these AI attributes varies across generations; Gen Y’s loyalty is mostly based on the benefits derived from AI features, whereas Gen Z places a greater value on the anthropomorphic factor of AI. This marked a generational shift in the demand for digital banking services.
Research limitations/implications
The specificity of Indian Gen Y and Z users defines the scope of this study, suggesting that demographic and geographical boundaries can be broadened in future AI-related banking research.
Practical implications
The results have important implications for bank executive officers and policymakers in developing AI-supported digital banking interfaces that appeal to the unique tastes of millennial customers, thus emphasising the importance of personalising AI functionalities to enhance user participation and loyalty.
Originality/value
This study enriches the digital banking literature by combining AI attributes with ECT, offering a granular understanding of AI’s role in modulating young consumers' satisfaction and continuance intentions. It underscores the strategic imperative of AI in cultivating compelling and loyalty-inducing digital banking environments tailored to the evolving expectations of Generations Y and Z.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to examine the impact of the assurance and advisory role of internal audit (ADRIA) on organisational, human and technical proactive measures to enhance cybersecurity (CS).
Design/methodology/approach
The questionnaire was used to collect data for 97 internal auditors (IAu) from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. The authors used partial least squares (PLS) to test the hypotheses.
Findings
The results show a positive effect of the ADRIA on each of the organisational proactive measures, human proactive measures and technical proactive measures to enhance CS. The study also found a positive effect of the confirmatory role of IA on both human proactive measures and technical proactive measures to enhance CS. No effect of the confirmatory role of IA on the organisational proactive measures is found.
Research limitations/implications
This study focused on only three proactive measures to enhance CS, and this study was limited to the opinions of IAu. In addition, the study was limited to using regression analysis according to the PLS method.
Practical implications
The results of this study show that managers need to consider the influential role of IA as a value-adding activity in reducing CS risks and activating proactive measures. Also, IAu must expand its capabilities, skills and knowledge in CS auditing to provide a bold view of cyber threats. At the same time, the institutions responsible for preparing IA standards should develop standards and guidelines that help IAu to play assurance and advisory roles.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study of its kind that deals with the impact of the assurance and ADRIA on proactive measures to enhance CS. In addition, the study determines the nature of the advisory role and the assurance role of IA to strengthen CS.
