Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to examine the relationship between workplace spirituality and employee creativity and check the mediating role of psychological empowerment on this relationship.
Design/methodology/approach
An online survey developed with SurveyMonkeyTM has been shared via LinkedIn to 750 software professionals working in Indian origin. For data analysis, partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) has been used, and for testing the mediation among the variables, Preacher and Hayes (2008) method is used.
Findings
The PLS-SEM results have revealed a significant positive relationship between workplace spirituality and employee creativity. There is also a positive relationship between workplace spirituality and psychological empowerment. Preacher and Hayes (2008) mediation results have revealed that psychological empowerment partially mediates between workplace spirituality and employee creativity.
Originality/value
The present study has filled the gap, which has been not addressed till this date and may be considered to be first-of-its kind study, which directly tried to understand the association between workplace spirituality and employee creativity among employees of Indian origin.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to understand the relationship between servant leadership (SL) and followers’ organizational citizenship behaviour (OCB) along with the mediational role of generalized self-efficacy (GSE) and organization-based self-esteem (OBSE) on the relationship.
Design/methodology/approach
A review of literature on leadership has been carried out to formulate a conceptual model that has focussed on the relationship between SL and followers’ OCB. The paper has also drawn the role of GSE and OBSE with relation to SL and followers’ OCB.
Findings
The literature has highlighted the importance of SL in promoting followers’ OCB, GSE and OBSE, and the positive relation of GSE and OBSE with followers’ OCB is also demonstrated.
Research limitations/implications
This is a conceptual work that has drawn from secondary material. A further empirical examination can help validate the ideas that have been proposed here.
Practical implications
This paper has highlighted the role of SL in organizations. It has also provided ample scope for practitioners to rethink about their current leadership style/approach and to plan their approach in such a way that can facilitate followers’ OCB, GSE and OBSE, which may result in organizational productivity and sustainability.
Originality/value
This paper has tried to connect two mediators, i.e. GSE and OBSE with SL in the Indian context that has been studied differently concerning different contexts, and that may add a new dimension to the discourse on SL.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of the paper is to examine the relationship between workplace spirituality and employees’ innovative work behaviour and also to check the mediating role of psychological empowerment on this relationship from the lens of self-determination theory (SDT).
Design/methodology/approach
An internet-based survey was conducted among knowledge workers, i.e. 340 employees (software engineers and product developers) working in different US-based multi-national companies operating in India. The relationships are tested by using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) and, for mediation, Preacher and Hayes (2008) procedure has been used.
Findings
The PLS-SEM and Preacher and Hayes (2008) mediation results revealed that there is a significant positive relationship between workplace spirituality and employees’ innovative work behaviour. There is also a substantial effect of workplace spirituality on psychological empowerment and psychological empowerment on employees’ innovative work behaviour. Psychological empowerment is found to be mediating fully between workplace spirituality and employees’ innovative work behaviour.
Practical implications
In the context of organizations, it will be really beneficial to enhance employees’ innovative work behaviour through inculcating workplace spirituality. Promoting workplace spirituality is one of the prerequisites in organizations towards creating sustainability and establishing an empowered organization in this competitive business environment.
Originality/value
There is a dearth of studies in linking the relationship between workplace spirituality and employees’ innovative work behaviour with the mediating role of psychological empowerment from the lens of SDT.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine the association between workplace spirituality (WPS) and individual’s work engagement (WE) and also the mediating effect of individual’s psychological conditions [psychological meaningfulness (PSYM), psychological safety (PSYS) and psychological availability (PSYA)] on this relationship.
Design/methodology/approach
Grounded on Kahn’s personal engagement theory, a model has been developed with WPS as an independent variable, individual’s psychological conditions (PSYM, PSYS and PSYA) as the mediators and individual’s WE as the dependent variable. Based on the online responses from 510 millennial employees working in Fortune 500 manufacturing and service industries operating in India, analysis has been undertaken using confirmatory factor analysis, Pearson correlation and PROCESS macro of Hayes (2017).
Findings
WPS has been noted to influence individual’s WE positively and there is a partial mediation of PSYM, PSYS and PSYA on this relationship.
Research limitations/implications
The present study is able to extend the scope of Kahn’s personal engagement theory.
Practical implications
Leaders and HR administrators can use the framework to ensure positive engagement levels for the millennial workforce. It will also help to reduce job dissatisfaction and burnouts at the workplace.
Originality/value
The present study contributes to understanding WE through the lens of WPS. It adds to the existing knowledge by explaining the mediation of the psychological conditions between spirituality and WE among millennials working in India. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study can be considered one of the first studies that has attempted to understand the role of WPS and psychological conditions on WE levels of millennials.
