Purpose
This paper breaks through the limitations of the research on bullwhip effect in the traditional supply chain, extends the research perspective to digital supply chain and discusses the weakening effect of digital supply chain on bullwhip effect by comparing the overall performance of the two.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper starts with the weakening mechanism of supply chain digitization on bullwhip effect, builds bullwhip effect models of traditional supply chain and digital supply chain, respectively, simulates the influence of supply chain digitization transformation on bullwhip effect by using Matlab software and analyzes the causes of bullwhip effect in supply chain led by T company and the digitization process.
Findings
Firstly, digitization can reduce bullwhip effect in multi-level supply chain by reducing information feedback deviation. Second, digital transformation is conducive to improving the overall performance of the supply chain. Third, government incentives can promote the digital transformation of supply chain and inhibit bullwhip effect.
Research limitations/implications
Although the study considers the heterogeneous subject -- the government's incentive effect on digital transformation and information sharing – it does not include the influence of the end node in the supply chain, that is the consumer. In addition, this paper only analyzes and discusses the bullwhip effect on the amplification of demand, without considering the situation that the market contraction will lead to the reduction of demand.
Practical implications
This paper considers the distortion degree and delay degree of information feedback, carries out quantitative analysis of bullwhip effect, builds the bullwhip effect model of traditional supply chain and digital supply chain, uses Matlab software to analyze the difference of the influence of supply chain digital transformation on bullwhip effect suppression and puts forward the corresponding control strategy.
Social implications
The research shows that digital transformation can reduce the bullwhip effect in multi-layer supply chain by reducing the information feedback deviation, which is conducive to improving the overall supply chain performance, and government support can accelerate the digital transformation of supply chain to a certain extent.
Originality/value
First, break through the limitations of traditional supply chain research, expand the research perspective to digital supply chain and discuss the weakening effect of digital supply chain on bullwhip effect by comparing the overall performance of the two. Second, quantify the bullwhip effect through information feedback bias and provide an analysis method for the weakening of the bullwhip effect. Third, the driving role of the government in the digital transformation of the supply chain is considered in the study, so that the model is more close to the actual situation of enterprise operation.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper takes the manufacturing cluster supply chain as the research object and explores the evaluation and enhancement strategy of manufacturing cluster supply chain synergy. The purpose of this study was to (1) analyze the mechanism of manufacturing cluster supply chain synergy; (2) construct manufacturing cluster supply chain synergy evaluation model; (3) algorithm realization of manufacturing cluster supply chain synergy evaluation and (4) propose manufacturing cluster-based supply chain synergy enhancement strategy.
Design/methodology/approach
Breaking through the limitations of traditional manufacturing cluster supply chain synergy evaluation, we take horizontal synergy and vertical synergy as coupled synergy subsystems, use the complex system synergy model to explore the horizontal synergy between core enterprises and cluster enterprises and the vertical synergy of supply chain enterprises and use the coupling coordination model to construct the coupled synergy evaluation model of manufacturing cluster supply chain, which is an innovation of the evaluation perspective of previous cluster supply chain synergy and also an enrichment and supplementation of the evaluation methodology. This is not only the innovation of the evaluation perspective but also the enrichment and supplementation of the evaluation method.
Findings
Using Python software to conduct empirical analysis on the evaluation model, the research shows that the horizontal and vertical synergies of the manufacturing cluster supply chain interact with each other and jointly affect the coupling synergy. On this basis, targeted strategies are proposed to enhance the synergy of the manufacturing cluster supply chain.
Research limitations/implications
This study takes manufacturers, suppliers and sellers in the three-level supply chain as the research object and does not consider the synergistic evaluation between distributors and consumers in the supply chain, which can be further explored in this direction in the future.
Practical implications
Advanced manufacturing clusters, as the main force of manufacturing development, and the synergistic development of supply chain are one of the important driving forces for the high-quality development of China’s manufacturing industry. As a new type of network organization coupling industrial clusters and supply chains, cluster supply chain is conducive not only to improving the competitiveness of cluster supply chains but also to upgrading cluster supply chains through horizontal synergy within the cluster and vertical synergy in the supply chain.
Social implications
Research can help accelerate the transformation and upgrading of clustered supply chains in the manufacturing industry, promote high-quality development of the manufacturing industry and accelerate the rise of the global value chain position of the manufacturing industry.
Originality/value
(1) Innovation of research perspective. Starting from two perspectives of horizontal synergy and vertical synergy, we take a core enterprise in the cluster supply chain as the starting point, horizontally explore the main enterprises of the cluster as the research object of horizontal synergy, vertically explore the upstream and downstream enterprises of the supply chain as the research object of vertical synergy and explore the coupling synergy of cluster supply chain as two subsystems, which provides new perspectives of evaluation of the degree of synergy and synergy evaluation. (2) Innovation of research content. Nine manufacturing clusters are selected as research samples, and through data collection and model analysis, it is verified that the evaluation model and implementation algorithm designed in this paper have strong practicability, which not only provides methodological reference for the evaluation of manufacturing cluster-type supply chain synergy but also reduces the loss caused by the instability of clusters and supply chains and then provides a theoretical basis for improving the overall performance of cluster-type supply chains.

Abstract
Purpose
To make an augmented image realistic, the virtual objects should be correctly occluded by foreground objects. The purpose of this paper is to propose a new approach that resolves occlusion problems in augmented reality (AR). The main interest is that it can automatically obtain the proper spatial relationship between virtual and real objects in real time.
Design/methodology/approach
The approach is divided into two steps: off‐line disparity map constructing and on‐line occlusion handling. In the off‐line stage, the disparity map of the real scene is constructed using the global stereo matching method prior and then the disparities are refined by means of the fast mean shift method. Since the depth values of objects in different positions are different, the real object that occludes the virtual object can be specified according to the depth value. In the on‐line stage, the contour of the specified object is tracked using the real time object tracking method with the combination of feature tracking method and minimum s‐t cut method. The augmented image with correct occlusions is produced by redrawing all the tracked object pixels on the augmented image.
Findings
Compared with the existing methods, the proposed approach can automatically resolve occlusion problem in real time. The effectiveness of the method is demonstrated with several experimental results.
Originality/value
This paper makes three contributions. First, a novel framework is proposed to handle occlusion problem in AR. This framework is different to the previously proposed methods. The main procedure includes: obtain occluding real object, track the object, and redraw the pixels of the object on the composed image. It is much easier to implement and can achieve satisfactory results. Second, the disparity map is used to automatically obtain the contour of the occluding real object. To get the contour of the occluding real object precisely, the mean shift method is used to refine the disparity map. By comparing the depth value, the occluding real object can be extracted automatically. Third, the tracking method combining feature tracking method and minimum s‐t cut method ensures the real‐time requirement. The occlusion problem can be handled in real‐time.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to present a novel registration method for augmented reality (AR) systems based on robust estimation of trifocal tensor using point and line correspondence simultaneously.
Design/methodology/approach
The proposed method distinguishes itself in following three ways: first, to establish the world coordinate system, the restriction that the four specified points must form an approximate square is relaxed, the only requirement is that these four points should not be collinear. Second, besides feature points, line segments are also used to calculate the needed trifocal tensors. The registration process can still be achieved even without the use of feature points. Third, to estimate trifocal tensors precisely, progressive sample consensus (PROSAC) is used instead of random sample consensus to remove outliers.
Findings
As shown in the experiments, the proposed method really enhances the usability of this system. To calculate trifocal tensor, a PROSAC based algebraic minimization algorithm is put forward which improves the accuracy and reduces the computation complexity.
Research limitations/implications
In current system, it is stipulated that there is no large rotation of the user's head relative to the registration scenes, because the NCC will degrade when there is a large rotation between images.
Practical implications
A more robust feature matching strategy is needed. Treating feature matching as a classification problem may be a good choice.
Originality/value
This paper presents a novel registration approach for AR system.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to provide a flexible registration method for markerless augmented reality (AR) systems.
Design/methodology/approach
The proposed method distinguishes itself as follows: firstly, the method is simple and efficient, as no man‐made markers are needed for both indoor and outdoor AR applications. Secondly, an adaptation method is presented to tune the particle filter dynamically. The result is a system which can achieve tolerance to fast motion and drift during tracking process. Thirdly, the authors use the reduced scale invariant feature transform (SIFT) and scale prediction techniques to match natural features. This method deals easily with the camera pose estimation problem in the case of large illumination and visual angle changes.
Findings
Some experiments are provided to validate the performance of the proposed method.
Originality/value
The paper proposes a novel camera pose estimation method based on adaptive particle filter and natural features matching techniques.

The purpose of this paper is to propose a novel registration method using Euclidean reconstruction and natural features tracking for AR‐based assembly guidance systems.
Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to propose a novel registration method using Euclidean reconstruction and natural features tracking for AR‐based assembly guidance systems.
Design/methodology/approach
The method operates in two steps: offline Euclidean reconstruction and online tracking. Offline stage involves obtaining the structure of scene using Euclidean reconstruction technique. The classification trees are constructed using affine transform for online initialization. In tracking, the classification‐based wide baseline matching strategy and Td,d test are used to get a fast and accurate initialization for the first frame after which a modified optical flow tracker is used to fulfill the task of feature tracking in the real‐time video sequences. The four specified points are transferred to the current image to compute the registration matrix for augmentation.
Findings
Firstly, Euclidean reconstruction was used instead of projective reconstruction to get the projections of predefined features. Compared with the six points needed in projective reconstruction‐based method, this method can run normally even when only four features are successfully tracked. Secondly, an adaptive strategy was proposed to adjust the classification trees using the tracked features in online stage by which one can initialize or reinitialize the system, even with large difference between the first and reference images.
Originality/value
Some indoor and outdoor experiments are provided to validate the performance of the proposed method.

Abstract
Purpose
Augmented environments superimpose computer enhancements on the real world. The pose and occlusion consistencies between virtual and real objects have to be managed correctly, so that users can look at the natural scene. The purpose of this paper is to describe a novel technique that can be used to resolve pose and occlusion consistencies in real time with a unified affine properties‐based framework.
Design/methodology/approach
First, the method is simple and can resolve pose and occlusion consistencies in a unified framework based on affine properties. It can improve third dimension of the augmented reality system to a large degree while reducing the computing complexity. Second, the method is robust to arbitrary camera motion and does not require multiple cameras, camera calibration, use of fiducials, or a structural model of the scene to work. Third, a novel feature tracking method is proposed combing narrow and wide baseline strategies to match natural features between reference images and current frame directly.
Findings
It is found that the method is still effective even under large changes of viewing angles, while casting off the requirement that the initial camera position should close to the reference images.
Originality/value
This paper describes some experiments which have been carried out to demonstrate the validity of the proposed approach.
