Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to verify the inhibition of the hydrogen permeation effect of the coating and to quantitatively and qualitatively characterize the coating-induced stress.

Design/methodology/approach

By means of slow strain rate tensile testing (SSRT) in humid air, thickness measurement, fracture morphology, cross-section morphology and surface morphology, hydrogen content measurements, flow stress difference method.

Findings

The results demonstrate that the mechanism of the inhibition of hydrogen embrittlement by the coating is mainly attributed to the repression of hydrogen permeation and the additional coating-induced compressive stress.

Originality/value

It is proven that the micro-arc oxidation (MAO) coating does inhibit hydrogen entry into the alloy, and the stress induced by the MAO coating is compressive stress, which can restrain the hydrogen embrittlement of the alloy. Therefore, the mechanism of the inhibition of hydrogen embrittlement is dominated by the mechanisms of both hydrogen permeation inhibition and coating-induced stress.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to investigate the effects of different electrolyte systems on the properties of micro-arc oxidation coating on 7050 high strength aluminum alloy.

Design/methodology/approach

The coatings were prepared in silicate system with Na2SiO3 as main component, borate system with Na2B4O7 as main component and aluminate solution with Na2AlO2 as main salt, respectively.

Findings

The results show that the 7050 high strength aluminum alloy shows the best properties in silicate system.

Originality/value

This manuscript studied the crucial influence of different electrolyte systems on the microstructure and properties of the aluminum alloy micro-arc oxidation layer.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to study the effect of Micro-arc oxidation (MAO) coating on stress corrosion and electrochemical behavior of aluminum alloy.

Design/methodology/approach

The stress corrosion cracking behavior of 7050 aluminum alloy (AA7050) after MAO treatment was investigated in 3.5 Wt.% NaCl solution using the constant load ring. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was used to evaluate the change of corrosion resistance of MAO specimens in 3.5  Wt.% NaCl solution, and appropriate equivalent circuits were established.

Findings

The results demonstrated that the MAO coating can improve the corrosion resistance of the AA7050 and avoid the reduction of mechanical properties caused by corrosion. In the initial stage of corrosion, the corrosion resistance of coated specimen decreased at first and then increased. In the middle and final stage of corrosion, the corrosion resistance of coated specimen decreased at first and then stabilized.

Originality/value

The long-term corrosion behavior of MAO specimens under stress was studied by constant load experiment and EIS. It has guiding significance for the application of MAO technology on aluminum alloy.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to create a conceptual model that connects learning organizations, service innovation and technology acceptance.

Design/methodology/approach

The importance of the interaction of variables benefiting both individuals and organizations has been comprehensively explained by combining two well-known theories – learning organizational theory and service innovation theory – with the technology acceptance model. In the first part of the study, conceptual model has been constructed and then applied to the hospitality industry of which results have been presented in the second part of this paper.

Findings

It is hypothesized that learning organization, service innovation and technology acceptance have significant relationships. It is also suggested that the learning organization plays an intermediary role in the relationship between technology acceptance and service innovation. Empirical results in this regard have been presented in the second part of the paper.

Research limitations/implications

The relations have been established and tested in the hospitality industry in Antalya. However, the model can be applied and established relations tested in other industries.

Originality/value

This research contributes to our knowledge of the intricate linkages that exist between learning organizations, technology acceptance and service innovation. Originality of the paper is related to the novel multilayered model illustrating three-way interactions between the three dimensions of learning organization, technology acceptance and service innovation.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the benefits of Ad-Video and Product-Video congruity for embedded online video advertising. A conceptual model is constructed to test how congruity between online advertisements, advertised products and online videos impact consumer post-viewing attitudes via processing fluency.

Design/methodology/approach

An online experiment with eight versions of mock video sections (with embedded online video advertisements) was conducted. The study is a 2 (type of appeal: informational vs emotional) × 2 (Ad-Video congruity: congruent vs incongruent) × 2 (Product-Video congruity: congruent vs incongruent) full-factorial between-subject design. A total of 252 valid responses were collected for data analysis.

Findings

Results show that congruity is related to the improvement of processing fluency only for informational ads/videos. The positive effect of Ad-Video congruity on processing fluency is only significant for informational appeals but not emotional appeal. Similarly, the positive effects of Product-Video congruity on processing fluency are only significant for informational appeals but not emotional appeal. Involvement has been found to be positively related to processing fluency too. Processing fluency has a positive impact on the attitudes toward the ads, advertised products and videos.

Research limitations/implications

The finding that congruity is related to the improvement of processing fluency only for informational ads/videos extends the existing literature by identifying the type of appeal as a boundary condition.

Practical implications

Both brand managers and online video platform owners should monitor and operationalize the content and appeal congruity, especially for informational ads on a large scale to improve consumers’ responses.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first paper to examine the effects of Ad-Video and Product-Video congruity of embedded advertisements on video sharing platforms. The findings of this study add to the literature on congruity and processing fluency.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to explore how the utilization of 3D virtual experiences and social media improve overall gastro-tourism experiences throughout the tourist journeys.

Design/methodology/approach

This study employs a mixed-methods approach. By combining self-reported surveys and EEG tracking, this study is able to rigorously unravel Gen Z’s experience and emotions in enjoying tech-enabled gastro-tourism activities.

Findings

Showcasing 3D virtual experiences and TikTok heightened customer expectations in the pre-visit stage. The 3D virtual attractions effectively enhanced tourists’ excitement and positive emotions during on-site gastronomic experiences, and subsequently manifested into a long-term impact on future actual visit intention.

Originality/value

This study contributes to the fields of information technology and tourism by examining how digital technologies affect Gen Z’s behavior and enhance the gastro-tourism experience starting from information search, moving to on-site experiences and subsequently affect their post-purchase behavior.

Abstract

Purpose

Aluminum alloy is susceptible to chloride ion attack in sea water, resulting in pitting damage and hence serious security risks for the related applications. To improve the corrosion resistance of Al alloy, micro-arc oxidation (MAO) technology has been developed to produce a protective dense oxide layer on top of Al alloy. However, the mechanism of MAO-induced corrosion resistance is still not fully understood, particularly on local corrosion issue. This paper aims to focus on comprehensively studying the corrosion-resistance mechanism by a series of technologies.

Design/methodology/approach

The corrosion behavior of samples was studied by open circuit potential (OCP), potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), electrode impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and localized electrode impedance spectroscopy (LEIS) tests in NaCl solution.

Findings

The MAO-coated Al alloy shows a more positive corrosion potential and a higher corrosion current density compared to the untreated counterpart, indicating a significantly enhanced corrosion-resistance. The study of surface morphology and structure also suggest significantly enhanced corrosion-resistance due to the MAO treatment.

Originality/value

Based on the results, a new corrosion model was proposed to describe the influence of MAO treatment on the corrosion process and corrosion mechanism of Al alloy, providing insights on the design of the corrosion-resistance coating for metallic alloys in marine applications.

Abstract

Purpose

This study was conducted with the aim of examining the ability of Saccharomyces cerevisiae to remove AFB1 from liquid media in order to use data in food and feed systems.

Design/methodology/approach

The binding of AFB1 to Saccharomyces cerevisiae in the late exponential and early stationary phases was studied for viable, heat killed and acid killed yeast. AFB1 at concentrations (5, 10 and 20 μg/l) was added to the yeast culture (109 cfu/ml) in yeast mold broth medium and incubated at 25°C for 4, 12 and 24 hrs. The aflatoxin binding capacity of the strain was quantified by the amount of unbound AFB1 using ELISA technique.

Findings

The detoxification rate for different treatments reported as follows: acid treated cells > heat treated cells > viable cells. Also, the most reduction in AFB1 concentration happened within the first four hours of incubation with no significant increase in AFB1 binding on further incubation because of saturation of active sites in yeast cells. According to the results, either form of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (viable or nonviable) is effective in aflatoxin binding from medium and the binding has a physical nature.

Social implications

The findings reduce the public concern about aflatoxin B1 contamination in foods and feeds having high risk of aflatoxin contamination.

Originality/value

No research had been done to assess the ability of Saccharomyces cerevisiae in the mentioned forms to detoxify AFB1.
