Abstract

Purpose

The main purpose of this research is to investigate finite-element analysis (FEA) on flux reversal-free stator switched reluctance motor (FRFSSRM) for industrial applications. The vibration analysis for an electrical machine is essential because of the acoustic noises. The acoustic noises originate by coincidence of natural frequencies of motor with the vibration frequencies.

Design/methodology/approach

The identification with the performance for FRFSRM by torque ripple, vibration. The vibration of the machine is because of unbalanced electromagnetic forces. The mutual coupled winding and a common pole between two adjacent exciting poles reduce these unbalanced forces.

Findings

The accelerometer is used to monitor the vibration amplitude in transient mode. A comparison study shows that the vibration is less in the E-core SRM than in the conventional flux reversal SRM.

Originality/value

The shorter flux path reduces the torque ripple and vibration content in SRM. This research article mainly focuses on the parameters such as vibration and torque ripple. The vibration of FRFSRM is identified by accelerometer; ANSYS Package predicts the simulation of the vibration measurement. The dynamic behaviors of this E-core SRM model with rated conditions the vibration had predicted.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of the food traceability is used to retain the good quality of raw material supply, diminish the loss and reduced system complexity.

Design/methodology/approach

The proposed hybrid algorithm is for food traceability to make accurate predictions and enhanced period data. The operation of the internet of things is addressed to track and trace the food quality to check the data acquired from manufacturers and consumers.

Findings

In order to survive with the existing financial circumstances and the development of global food supply chain, the authors propose efficient food traceability techniques using the internet of things and obtain a solution for data prediction.

Originality/value

The operation of the internet of things is addressed to track and trace the food quality to check the data acquired from manufacturers and consumers. The experimental analysis depicts that proposed algorithm has high accuracy rate, less execution time and error rate.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to propose Hidden Converter (H-Converter) combined with dual port 3Ø inverter for energy storage application to produce wide range of voltage. Some of the application required wide range of voltages, but problem from E-chopper is either boost or buck mode of operations, both modes are not possible. To overcome this drawback, H-Converter is combined with dual port 3Ø inverter controlled by carrier-based pulse width modulation (CB-PWM) technique is added with zero sequence injection.

Design/methodology/approach

Hidden converter is a bidirectional DC-DC chopper used to convert fixed DC to variable DC and vice versa in both buck and boost modes of operations. Dual port inverter is combined with hidden DC-DC converter can produce wide range of voltages.

Findings

The bidirectional DC-AC converter requires less power for processing and consumes less power losses by using modest carrier built- pulse width modulation scheme through proposed zero structure addition.

Originality/value

By using this proposed strategy H-Converter can produce wide range of voltage in both the sides and mostly power is processed in the 3Ø inverter with a one stage conversion with less power loss. As a result, with one stage power conversion has more efficiency because of less power loss. This proposed converter has designed by analysis, and the real time result is tested in an experiment.

Abstract

Purpose

Software reliability growth models (SRGMs) are used to assess and predict reliability of a software system. Many of these models are effective in predicting future failures unless the software evolves.

Design/methodology/approach

This objective of this paper is to identify the best path for rectifying the BFT (bug fixing time) and BFR (bug fixing rate). Moreover, the flexible software project has been examined while materializing the BFR. To enhance the BFR, the traceability of bug is lessened by the version tag virtue in every software deliverable component. The release time of software build is optimized with the utilization of mathematical optimization mechanisms like ‘software reliability growth’ and ‘non-homogeneous Poisson process methods.’

Findings

In current market scenario, this is most essential. The automation and variation of build is also resolved in this contribution. Here, the software, which is developed, is free from the bugs or defects and enhances the quality of software by increasing the BFR.

Abstract

Introduction: Lending is an age-old concept, and Peer-to-Peer (P2P) lending is not new. The reduction in the issuing of loans by banks has made people switch from traditional to online mode. The introduction of the online P2P lending industry is in its nascent stage of growth. As this industry is relatively new, understanding user experience, sentiments, and emotions would be helpful for the industry to innovate as per customer requirements.

Purpose: To explore the patterns in the sentiments expressed by users of ‘Cashkumar’ based on Google reviews.

Methodology: Sentiments have been analysed using user experience in risk, cost, ease of use, and loan processing time. Python application was used for sentiment analysis of Google reviews.

Findings: The sentiment analysis results showed that the average sentiment score was 0.7144, which indicates that the user sentiment towards ‘Cashkumar’ is positive. The reviews reflect that the users, especially borrowers were satisfied with the platform’s services and happy with loan processing time. The other factors – ease of use, cost, and risk – were not given much importance by users. Both lenders and borrowers faced a few issues, but the results of the lender’s sentiment analysis could not be generalised due to a smaller number of posted reviews.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to provide a conceptual and practical basis for developing new organization structures by augmenting the old through virtual knowledge based structures. While organization structure has a major impact on knowledge exchange, its design nevertheless continues to be governed by criteria that are often in conflict with the needs of knowledge management. In an era where knowledge is increasingly acknowledged to be a central factor of production in the modern enterprise, the resulting deficiencies in the design often lead to sub‐optimal capability for organizational performance.

Design/methodology/approach

Borrowing from Drucker's elucidation of the characteristics and determinants of a successful organization in the new economy, the consequences of the transition from an economy of goods to that of knowledge are analyzed briefly in the background of KM. The study highlights an enduring deficiency in present day organizations, wherein structure is relatively uninfluenced by knowledge considerations even as organizational functions have come to depend more on knowledge exchange. A design approach that addresses this lacuna is elaborated and illustrated through a case study.

Findings

This paper explores knowledge criteria for designing organization structure, proposes a hybrid solution with knowledge units (KUs) superimposed on a conventional structure and illustrates its practical application in developing KUs to create sustainable drivers for organizational value, performance and growth.

Originality/value

Provides knowledge criteria for the design of organization structure to aid organizational growth, responsiveness and performance. For theorists, provides a conceptual base for efficient organizational design; for practitioners in the areas of planning, knowledge management and organizational effectiveness, provides design criteria for optimal performance.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to numerically examine the influence of various geometric parameters of a novel W-shaped porous cavity undergoing hybrid nanofluid-based magnetohydrodynamic mixed convection. The W-shaped cavity is modified from the classical trapezoidal cavity by constructing a triangular shape at its bottom. This cavity is isothermally active at the bottom, with different numbers and heights of the triangular peak (or undulation). The heated hybrid nanofluid (Cu–Al2O3–H2O) flow is cooled through the translating top wall. Inclined sidewalls are thermally insulated. To compare the impacts of change in geometric parameters, a square cavity under similar boundary conditions is also simulated. This study is carried out systematically addressing the various influences from a range of parameters like side angles (γ), number (m) and height (λ) of the bottom undulation, Reynolds number (Re), Richardson number (Ri), Darcy number (Da), Hartmann number (Ha), hybrid nanoparticles volume fraction (φ) on the overall thermal performance of the cavity.

Design/methodology/approach

Applying the finite volume approach, the transport equations involving multiphysical conditions like porous substance, hybrid nanofluid, magnetic field and shearing force are solved numerically by using a written FORTRAN-based code following the SIMPLE algorithm. The algebraic equations are solved over all the control volumes in an iterative process using the alternate direction implicit scheme and the tri-diagonal matrix algorithm. The converged solution of the iterative process is obtained when the relative error levels satisfy the convergence criterion of 10–8 and 10–10 for the maximum residuals and the mass defect, respectively.

Findings

It is revealed that an increase in the bottom undulation height always improves the thermal energy transfer despite the reduction of fluid volume. Thermal energy transfer significantly depends on the heating and cooling surface lengths, fluid volume in the cavity and the magnitude of the bottom undulation height of the W-shaped cavity. With the increase in bottom undulation height, effective heating length increases by ∼28%, which leads to a ∼15% reduction in the effective volume of the working fluid and a gain in heat transfer by ∼56.48%. In general, the overall thermal energy transport is improved by increasing Re, Ri and Da; whereas it is suppressed by increasing Ha.

Research limitations/implications

There are many opportunities for future research experimentally or numerically, considering different curvature effects, orientations of the geometry, working fluids, boundary conditions, etc. Furthermore, this study could be extended by considering unsteady flow or turbulent flow.

Practical implications

In many modern systems/processes pertaining to materials processing, continuous casting, food processing, chemical reactors, biomedical applications, etc. fine control in the transport process is a major concern. The findings of this analysis can effectively be useful for other applications for getting more control features in terms of achieving the operational objectives. The approach of the system analysis (considering geometrical size parameters to delve into the underlying transport physics) and the obtained simulated results presented in the work can usefully be applicable to similar thermal systems/devices such as materials processing, thermal mixing, chemical reactors, heat exchangers, etc.

Originality/value

From the well-documented and vast pool of literature survey, it is understood that there exists no such investigation on the considered geometry and study. This study contributes a lot to understanding magnetic field moderated thermofluid flow of a hybrid nanofluid in a porous medium filled W-shaped cavity, in consideration of different geometrical shape parameters (undulation peak numbers at bottom wall, peak heights, side angles and heating and cooling length). Findings brought by this study provide great insights into the design and operation under various ranges of multiphysical thermofluid-flow processing phenomena.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to examine the stationarity characteristics of per capita GDP of 17 Asian countries and subpanels for South Asia, East Asia, and high income Asian countries in nonlinear framework.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors employed a recently developed nonlinear panel unit root test suggested by Ucar and Omaga in PESTAR framework for full panel and the subpanels.

Findings

The results indicate that per capita GDP for the full panel of Asian countries and panel of South Asian countries are linear nonstationary, whereas for the panel of East Asia and high income developed countries have a nonlinear data generating process and are stationary.

Originality/value

The use of newly developed nonlinear panel unit root test for Asian countries is the main contribution of the study. In that aspect, this is the first study to employ such a test in this area.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to analyze how formal, horizontal knowledge communities contribute to knowledge application. In large, complex organizations employees face multiple roles that compete for their time and may be conflicting. The paper seeks to analyze the interplay between the communities, the line organization, and the employees; specifically, to examine how the quality of management of the communities, the attitudes of line managers, and the employees' motivation for participating in the communities facilitate knowledge application.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors conducted a survey in an organization with several specialized, horizontal knowledge communities. In total, 2,517 responses were obtained from members of 131 different communities.

Findings

First, community management, line support and intrinsic motivation have a positive impact on knowledge application. Second, the effect of line support is stronger when employees are intrinsically motivated.

Research limitations/implications

The study is limited to one organization. Future research could study knowledge processes in matrix‐like organization, as well as the role of community coordinators for knowledge sharing and application.

Practical implications

To enhance knowledge sharing and knowledge application, commitment from both line managers and community coordinators is vital. In a matrix‐like organization, dialogue and communication are important in order to reconcile supplementary goals and considerations.

Originality/value

The paper presents a study that is one of the first to analyze antecedents of knowledge application in formal communities of practice.
