Abstract
Purpose
Up to date development in sentiment analysis has resulted in a symbolic growth in the volume of study, especially on more subjective text types, namely, product or movie reviews. The key difference between these texts with news articles is that their target is defined and unique across the text. Hence, the reviews on newspaper articles can deal with three subtasks: correctly spotting the target, splitting the good and bad content from the reviews on the concerned target and evaluating different opinions provided in a detailed manner. On defining these tasks, this paper aims to implement a new sentiment analysis model for article reviews from the newspaper.
Design/methodology/approach
Here, tweets from various newspaper articles are taken and the sentiment analysis process is done with pre-processing, semantic word extraction, feature extraction and classification. Initially, the pre-processing phase is performed, in which different steps such as stop word removal, stemming, blank space removal are carried out and it results in producing the keywords that speak about positive, negative or neutral. Further, semantic words (similar) are extracted from the available dictionary by matching the keywords. Next, the feature extraction is done for the extracted keywords and semantic words using holoentropy to attain information statistics, which results in the attainment of maximum related information. Here, two categories of holoentropy features are extracted: joint holoentropy and cross holoentropy. These extracted features of entire keywords are finally subjected to a hybrid classifier, which merges the beneficial concepts of neural network (NN), and deep belief network (DBN). For improving the performance of sentiment classification, modification is done by inducing the idea of a modified rider optimization algorithm (ROA), so-called new steering updated ROA (NSU-ROA) into NN and DBN for weight update. Hence, the average of both improved classifiers will provide the classified sentiment as positive, negative or neutral from the reviews of newspaper articles effectively.
Findings
Three data sets were considered for experimentation. The results have shown that the developed NSU-ROA + DBN + NN attained high accuracy, which was 2.6% superior to particle swarm optimization, 3% superior to FireFly, 3.8% superior to grey wolf optimization, 5.5% superior to whale optimization algorithm and 3.2% superior to ROA-based DBN + NN from data set 1. The classification analysis has shown that the accuracy of the proposed NSU − DBN + NN was 3.4% enhanced than DBN + NN, 25% enhanced than DBN and 28.5% enhanced than NN and 32.3% enhanced than support vector machine from data set 2. Thus, the effective performance of the proposed NSU − ROA + DBN + NN on sentiment analysis of newspaper articles has been proved.
Originality/value
This paper adopts the latest optimization algorithm called the NSU-ROA to effectively recognize the sentiments of the newspapers with NN and DBN. This is the first work that uses NSU-ROA-based optimization for accurate identification of sentiments from newspaper articles.

Grounded in Media System Dependency theory, this work investigates the impact of new media on political efficacy. It suggests that dependence on online resources affects people’s perceptions about the democratic potential of the Internet. Using structural equation modeling, the study tests the relationship between political attitudes and the perceived utility of the Web. The analysis employs measures that take into consideration the facilitating role of communication technologies. Results indicate that online political efficacy is associated with individual views about the comprehensiveness and credibility of new media. Efficacy is also linked to the perceived ability of online tools to aid the maintenance of ideologically homogenous social networks. The intensity of Internet dependency relations is found to be predicted by the perceived comprehensiveness – but not credibility – of online news.

Changing cultural dynamics, gender equality, education, and technology have contributed to women empowerment. Additionally, the use of Internet and social media platforms by businesses at various stages in the business life cycle is on the rise. Despite this, women entrepreneurs in developing countries are less inclined than their male counterparts toward using online mediums for their businesses. Findings from personal interviews with 20 Indian women entrepreneurs indicate that Indian women are low on social self-efficacy when interacting through online platforms, especially for business purposes. The chapter discusses the reasons behind low social self-efficacy on online mediums and how this can be improved.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether posting on Instagram contributes to empowerment and through what mechanisms.
Design/methodology/approach
A sample of 372 women instagrammers from Kuwait participated in the survey. LISREL 8.2 was used to perform confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling, employing the maximum likelihood estimation method.
Findings
Instagram posts have direct and indirect effects on psychological empowerment. The indirect effect appears through two perceptual mechanisms: sense of self-efficacy and sense of community (SOC). The former provides women with a sense of mastery and control and the latter gives them the perception of belonging to a community that equips individual participants with a collective efficacy. Of the two mechanisms, the SOC plays a more significant role in creating psychological empowerment. Having a sense of virtual community, as opposed to participating in real ones, can act as catalyst in creating empowerment.
Originality/value
This study investigates the impact of a recent new technology, namely, Instagram, in regions where women are marginalized for generations. Instagram is important, because images, photo captions, short texts and hashtags are vital elements of communication in the present day. Furthermore, women are twice as likely to think highly of a brand that makes an empowering ad and are more likely to share, comment and like the ads.

Purpose
In recent years, it is imperative to establish the structure of manufacturing industry in the context of smart factory. Due to rising demand for exchange of information with various devices, and huge number of sensor nodes, the industrial wireless networks (IWNs) face network congestion and inefficient task scheduling. For this purpose, software-defined network (SDN) is the emerging technology for IWNs, which is integrated into cognitive industrial Internet of things for dynamic task scheduling in the context of industry 4.0.
Design/methodology/approach
In this paper, the authors present SDN based dynamic resource management and scheduling (DRMS) for effective devising of the resource utilization, scheduling, and hence successful transmission in a congested medium. Moreover, the earliest deadline first (EDF) algorithm is introduced in authors’ proposed work for the following criteria’s to reduce the congestion in the network and to optimize the packet loss.
Findings
The result shows that the proposed work improves the success ratio versus resource usage probability and number of nodes versus successful joint ratio. At last, the proposed method outperforms the existing myopic algorithms in terms of query response time, energy consumption and success ratio (packet delivery) versus number of increasing nodes, respectively.
Originality/value
The authors proposed a priority based scheduling between the devices and it is done by the EDF approach. Therefore, the proposed work reduces the network delay time and minimizes the overall energy efficiency.

Purpose
This paper aims to clarify the relationship between mechanical behaviors and the underlying geometry of periodic cellular structures. Particularly, the answer to the following research question is investigated: Can seemingly different geometries of the repeating unit cells of periodic cellular structure result in similar functional behaviors? The study aims to cluster the geometry-functional behavior relationship into different categories.
Design/methodology/approach
Specifically, the effects of the geometry on the compressive deformation (mechanical behavior) responses of multiple standardized cubic periodic cellular structures (CPCS) at macro scales are investigated through both physical tests and finite element simulations of three-dimensional (3D) printed samples. Additionally, these multiple CPCS can be further nested into the shell of 3D models of various mechanical domain parts to demonstrate the influence of their geometries in practical applications.
Findings
The paper provides insights into how different CPCS (geometrically different unit cells) influence their compressive deformation behaviors. It suggests a standardized strategy for comparing mechanical behaviors of different CPCS.
Originality/value
This paper is the first work in the research domain to investigate if seemingly different geometries of the underlying unit cell can result in similar mechanical behaviors. It also fulfills the need to infill and lattify real functional parts with geometrically complex unit cells. Existing work mainly focused on simple shapes such as basic trusses or cubes with spherical holes.

Purpose
The difficulty in winding coil-based electrical and electronic devices manually lies in the fact that it takes so much time and effort to perform. Furthermore, it is difficult to achieve accuracy manually, as it is possible to lose count of the number of turns being wound. The purpose of this paper is to detail the design methods and calculations used to achieve a cost-effective, significantly accurate and more efficient method of winding coils.
Design/methodology/approach
A program flowchart was designed as a guideline for writing the program. An AT89C52 microcontroller was used to control the movement of the two direct current (DC) motors used in the construction of the machine. The circuit design obtained was then simulated using Proteus to test the functionality of the components together.
Findings
An electromechanical automatic coil winding machine for the coiling of simple, small-sized, coil-based electrical devices was successfully designed and fabricated. The machine was tested by winding a 1 kVA transformer. Diagrams, calculations, results and observations obtained during the design and construction are detailed in this paper.
Originality/value
This machine solves the problem of tediousness in coil winding, stably and precisely winding 60 turns/min at a 24 V supply and providing a keypad input method. Although portable automatic coil winding machines have been rendered previously, most have applied the use of stepper motors. The application of brushed DC motors alongside an AT89C52 microcontroller is a variation to the pool of renditions, offering better controllability and a sustained output.
