Abstract
Advocates an expanded scope for supply chain management research which accounts for the social function and the political and economic implications of supply chain developments. Argues that the research agenda must not be driven by the notion of efficiency alone, but should also be developed around the concept of the just supply chain. Provides a framework which sets out the range of issues which may contribute to this approach. Believes that the objectives and ideological assumptions of research need to be open to challenge and debate.

Abstract
Presents a classification scheme which allows the interpretation of supply chain improvement initiatives. While there is an abundance of anecdotal evidence, there is little systematic theoretical development in the field. This is partly because of the many different ways in which co‐operation between trading partners may be developed. The suggested framework is useful in that it highlights some important yet often ignored issues relating to the logic and outcomes of collaborative activities. Illustrates the use of the framework by the secondary analysis of some well‐known UK examples in logistics and supply‐chain management and with supplementary data gathered by questionnaire. Concludes by discussing the limitations of the scheme and its role in further research.

Abstract
Although there is growing enthusiasm for supply chain management and integrated logistics, much prescriptive writing rests on a flimsy empirical base. Explores the methodological dilemmas which arise in research in logistics practice. Presents three contrasting models of research frameworks. Outlines the experiences of a novel investigation into supply chain integration in the UK carried out in the first half of 1994. Makes recommendations about the use of secondary data, and strategies for future research.

Abstract
The term ‘policy’ as used by the judges is mainly concerned with whether third parties should be allowed to recover economic loss suffered by them as a result of professional negligence. The answers to the question of recovery of economic loss in negligence are not easy, as judges seem to be divided on this issue. Some judges feel that in some cases beyond physical damage and reliance, economic loss should be recoverable in negligence, while others fear indiscriminately opening the floodgate of liability.

Abstract
Describes the development of the teaching company link between Heriot‐Watt University and a “traditional” transport company. Discusses how an early project in the programme identified the industrial partner′s need to develop a strategic marketing approach which focused on TQM. Describes how this was introduced into an unpromising environment, but ultimately revolutionised company culture. Assesses the value of using the teaching company as a “vehicle” for applying TQM, from the standpoints of both partners. Concludes that the success of a key project and with it the programme, is critically dependent on people, relationships and commitment.

Abstract
How do transnational social movements organize? Specifically, this paper asks how an organized community can lead a nationalist movement from outside the nation. Applying the analytic perspective of Strategic Action Fields, this study identifies multiple attributes of transnational organizing through which expatriate communities may go beyond extra-national supporting roles to actually create and direct a national campaign. Reexamining the rise and fall of the Fenian Brotherhood in the mid-nineteenth century, which attempted to organize a transnational revolutionary movement for Ireland’s independence from Great Britain, reveals the strengths and limitations of nationalist organizing through the construction of a Transnational Strategic Action Field (TSAF). Deterritorialized organizing allows challenger organizations to propagate an activist agenda and to dominate the nationalist discourse among co-nationals while raising new challenges concerning coordination, control, and relative position among multiple centers of action across national borders. Within the challenger field, “incumbent challengers” vie for dominance in agenda setting with other “challenger” challengers.

Abstract
In the last four years, since Volume I of this Bibliography first appeared, there has been an explosion of literature in all the main functional areas of business. This wealth of material poses problems for the researcher in management studies — and, of course, for the librarian: uncovering what has been written in any one area is not an easy task. This volume aims to help the librarian and the researcher overcome some of the immediate problems of identification of material. It is an annotated bibliography of management, drawing on the wide variety of literature produced by MCB University Press. Over the last four years, MCB University Press has produced an extensive range of books and serial publications covering most of the established and many of the developing areas of management. This volume, in conjunction with Volume I, provides a guide to all the material published so far.
