Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to explore how social value orientation and domain knowledge affect cooperation levels and transcription quality in crowdsourced manuscript transcription, and contribute to the recruitment of participants in such projects in practice.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors conducted a quasi-experiment using Transcribe-Sheng, which is a well-known crowdsourced manuscript transcription project in China, to investigate the influences of social value orientation and domain knowledge. The experiment lasted one month and involved 60 participants. ANOVA was used to test the research hypotheses. Moreover, inverviews and thematic analyses were conducted to analyze the qualitative data in order to provide additional insights.
Findings
The analysis confirmed that in crowdsourced manuscript transcription, social value orientation has a significant effect on participants’ cooperation level and transcription quality; domain knowledge has a significant effect on participants’ transcription quality, but not on their cooperation level. The results also reveal the interactive effect of social value orientation and domain knowledge on cooperation levels and quality of transcription. The analysis of the qualitative data illustrated the influences of social value orientation and domain knowledge on crowdsourced manuscript transcription in detail.
Originality/value
Researchers have paid little attention to the impacts of the psychological and cognitive factors on crowdsourced manuscript transcription. This study investigated the effect of social value orientation and the combined effect of social value orientation and domain knowledge in this context. The findings shed light on crowdsourcing transcription initiatives in the cultural heritage domain and can be used to facilitate participant selection in such projects.

Abstract
Purpose
Online question-and-answer (Q&A) communities serve as important channels for knowledge diffusion. The purpose of this study is to investigate the dynamic development process of online knowledge systems and explore the final or progressive state of system development. By measuring the nonlinear characteristics of knowledge systems from the perspective of complexity science, the authors aim to enrich the perspective and method of the research on the dynamics of knowledge systems, and to deeply understand the behavior rules of knowledge systems.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors collected data from the programming-related Q&A site Stack Overflow for a ten-year period (2008–2017) and included 48,373 tags in the analyses. The number of tags is taken as the time series, the correlation dimension and the maximum Lyapunov index are used to examine the chaos of the system and the Volterra series multistep forecast method is used to predict the system state.
Findings
There are strange attractors in the system, the whole system is complex but bounded and its evolution is bound to approach a relatively stable range. Empirical analyses indicate that chaos exists in the process of knowledge sharing in this social labeling system, and the period of change over time is about one week.
Originality/value
This study contributes to revealing the evolutionary cycle of knowledge stock in online knowledge systems and further indicates how this dynamic evolution can help in the setting of platform mechanics and resource inputs.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to explore the antecedents of consumers’ online review intention in e-commerce platforms from a unique perspective of consumer commitment and platform design. Meanwhile, for the dual-platform strategy, i.e. providing both the web and mobile platforms simultaneously, which is widely adopted in the industry but lacks theoretical concerns, this study aims to examine the differences that platform design influences consumer commitment, consequently contributing to online review intention, between the web and mobile contexts.
Design/methodology/approach
A cross-sectional online survey is employed, and a structural equation model-based approach is utilized to analyze the data collected from both the website-preferred consumers (N = 167) and the mobile app-preferred consumers (N = 247).
Findings
The results indicate that instrumental support design factors and socio-emotional support factors positively influence consumer commitment, which further affect online review intention positively. Furthermore, design factors in different use contexts generate different impacts, and consumer commitment generates a greater effect on online review intention in the mobile than in the web context. Empathy is found to be an important motivator of consumer commitment in both contexts.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, as one of the first attempts to capture the differences in the relationship between platform design on consumer commitment and online review intention in different use contexts within the dual-platform e-commerce, this study provides insights for e-commerce platform managers and designers to promote consumer commitment and online review engagement by prioritizing the platform design.

Abstract
The goal of this chapter is to respond to the theoretical inquiries by scholars who are interested in how the public–private partnership (PPP) models adapt to China’s context where political power dictates economic strategies. We also want to provide suggestions to policy designers who aim to promote a sustainable investment environment for domestic and international investors. We review the literature that explains the upside and downside of PPP projects in contemporary China. (1) We classify the trajectory of PPP evolution into four phases, i.e., emergence, growth, recession and revival. (2) We note that private companies take a disadvantageous position in the partnership compared with governments and state-owned enterprises because of a lack of specialized legislation, unequal competition between private companies and state-owned enterprises and the opposition from the civic society. (3) We identify political risks as the most influential risks. Political risks also lead to the misallocation of other risks between public and private parties that contributes to the high failure rate of China’s PPP projects. Based on these findings, we recommend governments to draft specialized legislation, stabilize the political environment and provide favourable subsidies to local governments to limit the risks involved in PPP projects. We also advise private enterprises and state-owned enterprises to focus on negotiating over task and risk division with governments when they make decisions to participate in PPP projects. This full review of studies on PPP development in China provides reliable recommendations to scholars, governments and enterprises.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to provide a new method to study and improve the dynamic characteristics of the four-column resistance strain force sensor through the elastomer structure design and optimization.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on the mechanism analysis method, the authors first present a dynamic characteristic model of the four-column resistance strain force sensors’ elastomer. Then, the authors verified and modified the model according to the Solidworks finite element simulation results. Finally, the authors designed and optimized two types of four-column elastomers based on the dynamic characteristic model and verified the improvement of sensor dynamic performance through a hammer knock dynamic experiment.
Findings
The Solidworks finite element simulation and hammer knock dynamic experiment results show that the relative error of the model is less than 10%, which confirms the accuracy of the model. The dynamic performance of the sensors based on the model can be improved by more than 30%, which is a great improvement in sensor dynamic performance.
Originality/value
The authors first present a dynamic characteristic model of the four-column elastomer and optimize the four-column sensors successfully based on the mechanism analysis method. And a new method to study and improve the dynamic characteristics of the resistance is provided.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to characterize the mechanical properties of sintered nano-silver under various sintering processes by nano-indentation tests.
Design/methodology/approach
Through microstructure observations and characterization, the influences of sintering process on the microstructure evolutions of sintered nano-silver were presented. And, the indentation load, indentation displacement curves of sintered silver under various sintering processes were measured by using nano-indentation test. Based on the nano-indentation test, a reverse analysis of the finite element calculation was used to determine the yielding stress and hardening exponent.
Findings
The porosity decreases with the increase of the sintering temperature, while the average particle size of sintered nano-silver increases with the increase of sintering temperature and sintering time. In addition, the porosity reduced from 34.88%, 30.52%, to 25.04% if the ramp rate was decreased from 25°C/min, 15°C/min, to 5°C/min, respectively. The particle size appears more frequently within 1 µm and 2 µm under the lower ramp rate. With reverse analysis, the strain hardening exponent gradually heightened with the increase of temperature, while the yielding stress value decreased significantly with the increase of temperature. When the sintering time increased, the strain hardening exponent increased slightly.
Practical implications
The mechanical properties of sintered nano-silver under different sintering processes are clearly understood.
Originality/value
This paper could provide a novel perspective on understanding the sintering process effects on the mechanical properties of sintered nano-silver.

This study aims to focus on determining the influence of transformational leadership on work engagement as mediated by employee motivation.
Design/methodology/approach
The research findings are based on a quantitative analysis of a survey of 443 full-time employees working in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Great Bay Area (GBA) of China.
Findings
The positive perception of transformational leadership from employees enables them to accomplish tasks beyond expectations. With the help of structural equation modeling, this study reveals that the influence path of perceptions of transformational leadership on work engagement is partially mediated through employee motivation.
Research limitations/implications
Employee motivation is not the only mediating factor, other factors mediate the relationship between transformational leadership and work engagement. The problem of sample size and sampling collection, the survey only focuses on samples working in the GBA.
Originality/value
The analysis and results based on data from mainland China, especially the GBA, expands the boundaries of the role of transformational leaders in learning organization and provides additional data support and sources for future relevant research. At the same time, the study of the mediation models between leadership and work engagement also hints more potential possible mediation factors.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to present the influence of inter-turn short circuit faults (ITSF) on electromagnetic vibration in high-voltage line-starting permanent magnet synchronous motor (HVLSPMSMS).
Design/methodology/approach
In this paper, the ampere–conductor wave model of HVLSPMSM after ITSF is established. Second, a mathematical model of the magnetic field after ITSF is established, and the influence law of the ITSF on the air-gap magnetic field is analyzed. Further, the mathematical expression of the electromagnetic force density is established based on the Maxwell tensor method. The impact of HVLSPMSM torque ripple frequency, radial electromagnetic force spatial–temporal distribution and rotor unbalanced magnetic tension force by ITSF is revealed. Finally, the electromagnetic–mechanical coupling model of HVLSPMSM is established, and the vibration spectra of the motor with different degrees of ITSF are solved by numerical calculation.
Findings
In this study, it is found that the 2np order flux density harmonics and (2 N + 1) p order electromagnetic forces are not generated when ITSF occurs in HVLSPMSM.
Originality/value
By analyzing the multi-harmonics of HVLSPMSM after ITSF, this paper provides a reliable method for troubleshooting from the perspective of vibration and torque fluctuation and rotor unbalanced electromagnetic force.

Purpose
Material extrusion additive manufacturing processes inevitably produce bead-shaped surface patterns on the walls of parts, which create stress concentrations under load. This study aims to investigate the influence of such stress concentrations on the strength along the build direction (“Z-strength”).
Design/methodology/approach
This work consists of two main parts – an experimental demonstration to show the significance of stress concentrations on the Z-strength, followed by numerical modeling to evaluate the theoretical stress concentration factors (kt) for such shapes. Meso-scale finite element analysis (FEA) was performed to evaluate kt at the roots of the intersecting bead shapes. The critical bead shape parameters influencing kt were identified, and parametric FEA studies were performed on different bead shapes by varying the normalized parameters.
Findings
The experimental results showed that up to a 40% reduction in the effective Z-strength could be attributed only to the presence of surface bead shapes. Bead overhang and root radius were identified as critical shape parameters influencing kt. The results of the parametric FEA studies were used to generate a single empirical equation to determine kt for any bead shape.
Originality/value
Predictive models for Z-strength often focus on crystallization kinetics and polymer chain interdiffusion to predict interlayer adhesion strength. The authors propose that the results of such studies must be combined with surface bead-shape induced stress concentration factors to obtain the combined, “effective” Z-strength.

Abstract
Digital disruption no longer ensures the security or longevity of established firm structures and business models. Instead, it necessitates that firms reinvent their business models, including business processes, people, and technologies that align with the organizational goals. Despite the exponential growth of digital disruption, prior literature indicates that the concept of business model innovation is poorly understood in developing economies. Furthermore, little is known about how low-tech firms in developing economies should adapt and reinvent their business models to cope with and shape digital disruption as it unfolds. Grounded in two overarching theoretical frameworks, namely the theory of disruptive innovation and the resources–processes–values (RPV) framework, this chapter addresses this void in prior literature. Based on multiple case study analyses of 10 low-tech firms in diverse industries in Sri Lanka, the findings indicate that successful disruptive business model innovation in low-tech firms in Sri Lanka is predicated on an effective technology management strategy, suitable organizational structure, compatible organizational culture, and devoted corporate governance. Moreover, external influences like changing market dynamics, competition, and shifts in consumer behavior also significantly influence disruptive business model innovation of selected firms. This chapter acts as a springboard for future researchers by extending the theory of disruptive innovation and RPV framework to low-tech industries in developing economies.
