Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the properties of several thiol-acrylate photosensitive systems and compare with corresponding acrylate free-radical systems. The potential stereolithography applications of thiol–ene photosensitive systems are also discussed.
Design/methodology/approach
In the both thiol–ene and acrylate free-radical photosensitive systems, various key performances were characterized. The function group conversions were characterized by real-time Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The tension strength was determined according to the standard ASTM D638-2003, the flexible strength was determined according to ASTM D790-07 and the hardness was measured according to ASTM D2240-05. The volume shrinkage was measured by dilatometer method. The glass transition temperature was analyzed by differential scanning calorimeter.
Findings
As adding mercapto propionates into acrylate system, the inhibition of polymerization by oxygen was controlled and the flexible performance was improved. In addition, the photosensitive resin showed better tension strength, higher elongation at break and lower volume shrinkage. Among the four mercapto propionates, rigid TEMPIC showed most obvious affect, followed hexa-functional DPMP, tetra-functional PETMP and tri-functional TMMP.
Originality/value
Although the thiol–ene photosensitive resin has unmatched advantages in performance, there are no reports on the thiol–ene photosensitive resin in the stereolithography application. In this study, thiol–ene photopolymerization material was first tentatively implemented in stereolithography area. Several critical performance parameters were compared between thiol–ene and acrylate free-radical photosensitive systems.

Abstract
Purpose
The modern missile has low uncertain and wide range vibration frequency. The conventional notch filter with the fixed notch frequency is less effective than that of the adaptive notch filter (ANF) in vibration suppression for the time-varying vibration frequency.
Design/methodology/approach
To overcome the drawback, a novel method is based on frequency estimators made by interpolation of three discrete Fourier transform (DFT) spectral lines. The modified frequency estimators based on the interpolation of three DFT spectral lines are presented to identify and track the vibration frequency. Then the notch frequencies of multiple ANFs are real-timely tuned according to estimators.
Findings
Finally, taking the second-order flexible missile as an example, the performance of the proposed method is verified. The verified simulation results show that multiple ANFs are effective in vibration suppression.
Practical implications
Cascading multiple ANFs to achieve multi-order vibration suppression is more efficient and feasible than conventional fixed-parameter notch filtering.
Originality/value
The frequency estimation method based on three DFT spectral lines proposed in this paper can effectively identify and track signals in the noise environment. Compared with conventional methods, the method pretended in this paper has high identification accuracy and a stronger ability to track signals. It can meet the fast frequency identification requirements of the actual flexible missile.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to investigate the possible implications of compliance with corporate governance (CG) provisions, including board composition and ownership structures, on the firm’s likelihood of falling into financial distress.
Design/methodology/approach
The study applies a random-effects logistic regression model as a baseline analysis using a sample of 110 FTSE 350 manufacturing companies from 2014 to 2019. This technique is supported by conducting a two-stage Heckman regression model to overcome the potential existence of endogeneity problems.
Findings
The empirical evidence suggests that board composition and ownership structure are heterogeneously associated with financial distress probabilities in that they might have either reduced or increased the financial distress of the sampled firms. Specifically, board independence, board gender diversity, audit committee independence and institutional ownership negatively influence the likelihood of financial distress. In contrast, and consistent with the expectations, ownership concentration is positively attributed to financial distress, while the board size, audit committee size and managerial ownership have insignificant impacts on financial distress.
Originality/value
The study extends the existing body of knowledge by examining the collective effect of board characteristics and ownership structures on firms’ financial distress likelihood among a sample of manufacturing firms within the FTSE 350 index post the 2008 global financial crisis and following the recent CG reforms in the UK during the study period from 2014 to 2019.

Abstract
Purpose
Spherical robot plays an essential role in the field of mobile robot because of its unique shape and omni-directional mobility, especially in the application of planet detection. Although spherical robot has many advantages over leg robot, its obstacle climbing performance is still not satisfactory, that is exactly the motivation of this paper. The purpose of this paper is to propose a high-performance hopping mechanism for spherical robot, which can adapt to different terrain and effectively cross obstacles.
Design/methodology/approach
The hopping system uses torque spring as part of the energy storage mechanism, and converts the kinetic energy of rotation into elastic potential energy with a particularly designed turntable. Moreover, the track of the turntable, based on the Archimedes spiral principle, has the attributes of equidistance and equivelocity that enable better stability of energy storage process.
Findings
Experiments show that the proposed hopping mechanism can make a 250 g spherical robot jump up to 58 cm with the take-off angle of 60°. Finally, the influence of friction and take-off angle on the hopping height and distance of the robot is also analyzed, which provides a prior guidance for optimizing its jumping process.
Originality/value
This paper shows how to easily design a lightweight, compact and embedded spring hopping structure so that a spherical hopping robot with detection ability can be developed.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims at developing a better understanding of the relationship between network embeddedness and incremental innovation capability and further examines the moderating effect of open innovation.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper adopts hierarchical regressions to validate the theoretical model and collect the patent data of the top 54 firm patentees in the smartphone industry as empirical sample. Using patent citation network data, this paper estimates the relationship between open innovation, network embeddedness and incremental innovation capability.
Findings
This paper empirically shows that structural embeddedness exerts a negative effect on incremental innovation capability, while relational embeddedness is positively related to incremental innovation capability. And open innovation strengthens the relationship between network embeddedness and incremental innovation capability.
Originality/value
This paper shifts the focus of the determinants of incremental innovation capability from internal factors to the external network features by exploring the linkage between network embeddedness and incremental innovation capability. A counterintuitive conclusion is that structural embeddedness shows a negative effect on firm's incremental innovation capability. Furthermore, in contrast to most previous studies, which only focus on the direct effect of open innovation on the firm's incremental innovation capability, our study examines the moderating effect of open innovation on the relationships between network embeddedness and incremental innovation capability. At last, the results provide practical guidance for firms to occupy the beneficial network positions and adopt appropriate open innovation strategies to improve their incremental innovation capability.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this research is to review empirical research on customer involvement in innovation and identify future research directions that can better connect this research with marketing strategy literatures and offer opportunities for further theoretical development.
Methodology/approach
We conduct a review of empirical articles published in eight leading marketing and innovation journals between 2001 and 2017.
Findings
The review shows that the literature on customer involvement in innovation is highly diverse and fragmented, lacking a common understanding of what constitutes customer involvement in innovation and its theoretical underpinnings. There exists a multitude of conceptualizations of customer involvement in innovation, which limits effective accumulation of domain knowledge. A large number of studies have taken the customer’s perspective to examine their motivation to participate and ability to contribute, whereas less research has been done from the firm’s perspective to understand how firms may effectively manage the well-recognized challenges of customer involvement as well as the implications of customer involvement for long-term innovation strategy and overall performance. Based on the review, we offer recommendations for future research.
Practical implications
We identify important questions for future research that are highly relevant for the practice of customer involvement in innovation.
Originality/value
We provide a systematic review of the rapidly growing empirical research on customer involvement in innovation. We evaluate key points of differences in the literature and offer a synthesis that helps identify opportunities for future research.

Abstract
Purpose
Our study focuses on providing empirical evidence regarding the optimization of podcasting in asynchronous learning. This action research aimed to innovate the delivery of asynchronous classes using differentiated podcasts.
Design/methodology/approach
We utilized action research as the research design for the study. Participating in action research entails developing practical knowledge to improve educational practices through specific methods and critical perspectives (Sáez Bondía and Cortés Gracia, 2022). According to Burns (2007), action research involves deliberate interventions usually prompted by identified issues, mysteries or inquiries that individuals in the social setting seek to improve or change. Implementing changes to enhance individuals' actions and understanding within their context is the focus of action research (Kemmis, 2010). The study’s approach is ideal for examining new practices and gaining enhanced theoretical insights (Altrichter et al., 2002). Engaging in action research helps enhance understanding and empowers us to impact and enhance practices through continuous reflection, exploration and action. Through this iterative process, we can continuously enhance our comprehension and make substantial strides toward fostering positive transformation.
Findings
The study findings showed an apparent rise in student regulation and engagement and remarkable enhancements in learning outcomes, as demonstrated by differences in pre-test and final exam scores. These results highlight the actual effect of specialized podcasts on self-paced inducing students' self-efficacy in learning. Our research provides valuable insights on effectively incorporating podcasts into education, offering innovations and improvement of practice among educators and institutions adapting to the ever-changing landscape of the educational environment while catering to the diverse needs of the learners. This research is pioneering research catering to the various learning styles of asynchronous learning environments.
Research limitations/implications
Although our current sample offered valuable insights, upcoming studies could gain from more extensive and more diverse participant groups to strengthen the reliability of our results and guarantee broader applicability across various demographics and contexts. Moreover, the length of our intervention may have been relatively brief, which could have limited our ability to evaluate the long-term impact of customized podcasts on learning results. Continued investigation into the long-term effects of these interventions could provide valuable insights into their effectiveness over time and help shape the creation of more lasting educational approaches.
Practical implications
Innovation in asynchronous learning differentiated teaching attuned to the diverse learning styles of the students.
Social implications
The study promotes equitable education, which eventually promotes learning outcomes of the students.
Originality/value
We created differentiated podcasts tailored to the learning styles of the students. This research is pioneering research catering to the various learning styles of asynchronous learning environments.

Abstract
Purpose
The present paper aims to identify factors and variables affecting designing and assimilating technology in knowledge-based centers and aerospace industries, to study their relations and, ultimately, to provide a model based on research data.
Design/methodology/approach
Structural equation modeling (SEM) using AMOS software was used to study the relations among latent variables. Initially, the right structure of devised measure is assured and, then, by introducing a concept called “invariance”, it is shown that the devised measure structure in both aerospace industries and knowledge-based centers measures the same traits. Finally, the relations among latent variables in both knowledge-based centers and aerospace industries are studied and compared through SEM.
Findings
Findings indicate that there is a significant and positive relationship between knowledge management and successful technology transfer effectiveness. Further relational and organizational capabilities as key factors and facilitators play a mediating role between knowledge management and technology transfer effectiveness.
Practical implications
According to the direct impact of knowledge management on successful technology transfer, it is appropriate that domestic managers in research centers and aerospace industries pay more attention to technology transfer and pave the ground for executing its processes and mechanisms.
Originality/value
In the model provided in the theoretical literature, the sequence of technology transfer is addressed more, while the capabilities of technology sender (university), technology receptor (industry), knowledge management and its influence role in technology transfer from university to industry are not considered.
