Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to create and deploy new configurations of resources via understanding issues concerning generative knowledge integration (KI) to create a customer‐centric relationship management system.
Design/methodology/approach
A qualitative case study of a public‐listed housing developer was conducted to analyze its main issues and conceptualize the underlying generative knowledge integration process.
Findings
Issues concerning generating KI were identified from the case study. The conceptualization of generative KI encompasses three main generative KI mechanisms, knowledge conceptualization, knowledge convergence, and knowledge assimilation, that are connected by three generative KI processes: accessing and exchanging knowledge, articulating and exchanging knowledge, and combining and exchanging knowledge.
Practical implications
The importance of understanding the concept of generative knowledge integration for practitioners is emphasized, and suggestions are given to promote the deployment of knowledge integration generation throughout system development.
Originality/value
The research conducted is unique in that a new model of generative knowledge integration is proposed, contributing to the knowledge integration literature in terms of the uncovering the three new generative KI mechanisms and processes.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this article is to aid in the understanding of the influence of social integration (SI) in enterprise information systems (EIS) use.
Design/methodology/approach
An in‐depth case study was carried out, where 40 interviews were collected along with eight informal conversations, five observations, and secondary data from a company with ten years of experience in the management and application of EIS. Informants were EIS users from top management to middle management, different‐user departments, the IT department, as well as the IT vendor.
Findings
A total of six social integration processes and three social integration mechanisms were identified that help to explain the influences of social integration in EIS use.
Research limitations/implications
This research could be further extended to explore other possible social integration processes, enablers or inhibitors which could provide a more comprehensive understanding of EIS usage.
Practical implications
By understanding the concept of SI, practitioners should be able to provide appropriate effort, attention and action which could evolve in the process to optimize productivity and efficiency of EIS use.
Originality/value
The theoretical contribution of this paper is the development of a coherent conceptual social integration (SI) framework to connect the interrelationships among the three social capital dimensions proposed by Nahapiet and Ghoshal.

Abstract
This paper describes some basic concepts of knowledge management, and explains, using these definitions, why universities are not always seats of learning or knowledge sharing. A knowledge management programme, initiated by a leading British university, is described. The authors conclude by suggesting that knowledge management tools may be beneficial to supporting academics in their multi‐faceted work. However, time will tell as to the extent to which they can actually share tacit knowledge and enable real organisational learning across cultures in universities.

Abstract
Purpose
A two switches non-isolated DC-DC novel buck-boost converter for charging the battery of electric vehicle is projected in this paper. The performance of the converter is compared with conventional buck-boost and transformer-less P/O buck-boost converter by Shan and Faqiang. The detail operation and performance analysis of the proposed converter is described both in continuous conduction mode and discontinuous conduction mode. A state space model and simulation model is designed in MATLAB. The PID controller parameters are tuned using Single-objective Salp swarm optimization algorithm using MATLAB. The controller is implemented using DSP board. The hardware and simulation results are projected in the paper to validate the effectiveness of the proposed buck-boost converter. A comparison analysis is projected among conventional converter and Shan & Faqiang converter.
Design/methodology/approach
The converter state space model is designed and simulation model is also developed in MATALAB. The controller is implemented using DSP board. The parameters are obtained using optimization technique using SSA algorithm. The hardware design is also implemented, and the result is compared with the Shan and Faqiang converter. The efficiency of the converter is also tested.
Findings
The converter is providing a higher efficiency. The inductor current is also positive in both buck and boost mode. The robustness of the controller is better for a wide range of variation of input voltage because the output voltage remains almost constant. Therefore, this is very suitable for battery charging and PV module application.
Practical implications
For battery charging from PV module where voltage fluctuation is frequent.
Social implications
The authors can use household applications to charge the battery using PV module.
Originality/value
The converter design concept is new. Optimization is used to find the parameters of the controllers and is implemented in hardware design. The parameters obtained provide robustness in the converter performance.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to investigate the effects of exhaust direction on exhaust plume and helicopter infrared radiation in hover and cruise status.
Design/methodology/approach
Four exhaust modes are concerned, and the external flow field and fuselage temperature field are calculated by numerical simulation. The infrared radiation intensity distributions of the four models in hovering and cruising states are computed by the ray-tracing method.
Findings
Under the hover status, the exhaust plume is deflected to flow downward after it exhausts from the nozzle exit, upon the impact of the main-rotor downwash. Besides, the exhaust plume shows a “swirling” movement following the main-rotor rotational direction. The forward-flight flow helps prevent the hot exhaust plume from a collision with the helicopter fuselage generally for the cruise status. In general, the oblique-upward exhaust mode provides moderate infrared radiation intensities in all of the viewing directions, either under the hover or the cruise status. Compared with the hover status, the infrared radiation intensity distribution alters somewhat in cruise.
Originality/value
Illustrating the influences of exhaust direction on plume flow and helicopter infrared radiation and the differences of helicopter infrared radiation under hover and cruise statuses are identified. Finally, an appropriate exhaust mode is proposed to provide a better IR signature distribution.

Purpose
In an intelligent transportation system (for short, ITS) environment, a vehicle’s motion is affected by the information in a large scale. The purpose of this paper is to study the integration effect of multiple vehicles’ delayed velocities on traffic flow.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper constructed a new car-following model to study the integration effect of multiple vehicles’ delayed velocities on traffic flow. The new model is analyzed by linear and nonlinear perturbation method theoretically and also verified by simulation.
Findings
It is found out that the integration of preceding vehicles’ delayed velocities affect the stability of traffic flow importantly, and three preceding vehicles’ delayed velocities information should be considered in real traffic.
Originality/value
The new car-following model by considering the integration effect of multiple vehicles’ delayed velocities is firstly proposed in this paper. The research result shows that three preceding vehicles’ delayed velocities information is the best choice to stabilizing traffic flow.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to investigate the suppression of end-point vibrations in industrial robot systems that exhibit joint flexibility and are subject to external disturbances.
Design/methodology/approach
The real-time position tracking error is effectively decomposed by using feedforward control based on a dynamic model. Various proportional-derivative controllers and adapted versions are used to compute real-time compensation torque for different position tracking errors. This approach aims to simultaneously achieve rapid response and stability in the control system, resulting in reduced end vibration in the industrial robot.
Findings
Experiments were conducted in torque compensation on a 6R industrial robot platform. Compared to the dynamic model calculate torque feedforward compensation method, the maximum reduction of the root mean square of the position error of each joint reached 77% and the minimum reduction was 36.2%. This enhancement improves the trajectory tracking accuracy and effectively suppresses the end-effector vibration.
Originality/value
An improved torque feedforward compensation method is proposed and verified. According to the experimental results, the method can effectively suppress vibration and further improve the trajectory tracking accuracy.

Abstract
This chapter focuses on pedagogies of working with diversity centers on West-East reciprocal learning through a Reciprocal Learning Program in preservice teacher education between a Canadian university and a Chinese university. By presenting our initial analysis of fieldwork with our Teacher Education Reciprocal Learning Program participants through excerpts from newsletters, surveys, and interviews, we explore how participants from both China and Canada made sense of their learning from the other cultural and educational system through the Reciprocal Learning Program within broad educational, social, and cultural contexts. We argue that both global and multicultural dimensions are cultivated in reciprocal learning that infused the lived experiences of both Canadian and Chinese preservice teacher candidates. We discuss the pedagogic implications for working with diversity and believe that reciprocal learning can take place while working with people from different cultures with an attitude of mutual respect and appreciation and an appetite for learning in our increasingly interconnected world.
