Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to investigate the effects of propeller locations on the aerodynamic characteristics of a generic 55° swept angle sharp-edged delta wing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) model.
Design/methodology/approach
A generic delta-winged UAV model has been designed and fabricated to investigate the aerodynamic properties of the model when the propeller is placed at three different locations. In this research, the propeller has been placed at three different positions on the wing, namely, front, middle and rear. The experiments were conducted in a closed-circuit low-speed wind tunnel at speeds of 20 and 25 m/s corresponding to 0.6 × 106 and 0.8 × 106 Reynolds numbers, respectively. The propeller speed was set at constant 6,000 RPM and the angles of attack were varied from 0° to 20° for all cases. During the experiment, two measurement techniques were used on the wing, which were the steady balance measurement and surface pressure measurement.
Findings
The results show that the locations of the propeller have significant influence on the lift, drag and pitching moment of the UAV. Another important observation obtained from this study is that the location of the propeller can affect the development of the vortex and vortex breakdown. The results also show that the propeller advance ratio can also influence the characteristics of the primary vortex developed on the wing. Another main observation was that the size of the primary vortex decreases if the propeller advance ratio is increased.
Practical implications
There are various forms of UAVs, one of them is in the delta-shaped planform. The data obtained from this experiment can be used to understand the aerodynamic properties and best propeller locations for the similar UAV aircrafts.
Originality/value
To the best of the author’s knowledge, the surface pressure data available for a non-slender delta-shaped UAV model is limited. The data presented in this paper would provide a better insight into the flow characteristics of generic delta winged UAV at three different propeller locations.

Purpose
The flow topology for multi-disciplinary configuration (MULDICON) wing is very complicated and nonlinear at low to high angle of attack (AOA). This paper aims to provide the correlation between the unsteadiness and uncertainties of the flow topology and aerodynamic forces and moments above MULDICON WING at a medium to a higher AOA.
Design/methodology/approach
The experimental and computational fluid dynamics methods were used to investigate a generic MULDICON wing. During the experiment, the AOA were varied from α = 5° to 30°, whereas yaw angle varies between β = ±20° and Reynolds number between Re = 3.0 × 105 and Re = 4.50 × 105. During the experiments steady-state loading, dynamic loading and flow visualization wind tunnel methods were used.
Findings
The standard deviation quantified the unsteadiness and uncertainties of flow topology and predicted that they significantly affect the pitching moment (Cm) at medium to higher AOA. A strong correlation between flow topology and Cm was exhibited, and the experiment data was well validated by previous numerical work. The aerodynamic center was not fixed and shifted toward the wing apex when AOA is increasing. For a = 10°, the flow becomes more asymmetric. Power spectral densities plots quantify the flow separation (apex vortex, leading-edge vortex and vortex breakdown) over the MULDICON wing.
Originality/value
The application and comparison of steady-state and dynamic loading data to quantify the unsteadiness and uncertainties of flow topology above the MULDICON wing.

Abstract
Purpose
Due to a staggering growth rate in the recent past, halal products have attained a significant attention of marketers across countries. However, marketing practitioners seek to have detailed understanding of what drives consumers of different demographics towards this product category so as to better market and position themselves in the competitive landscape. Correspondingly, this study aims to provide insights into the Muslim women consumers’ halal cosmetics purchase behaviour and examines the variables (and their interplay) when purchasing such products.
Design/methodology/approach
The data for the study were collected through a self-administered questionnaire from 371 Muslim respondents from India. The data were analysed through structural equation modelling using AMOS 22.0 SEM software.
Findings
The findings of this study reveal that religious knowledge, religious commitment and halal certification(s) affect consumers’ actual purchase behaviour of halal cosmetics, which subsequently drives their repurchase intention. The findings further reveal a non-significant effect of religious orientation with both the actual purchase behaviour and repurchase intention towards halal cosmetics. Additionally, actual purchase behaviour of halal cosmetics is found to positively affect customers’ repurchase intentions.
Originality/value
Despite the recent growth of overall beauty industry, this particular segment of halal cosmetics has a huge potential given the phenomenal preference that Muslim consumers have shown in such niche. Therefore, this paper contributes towards examining the key factors influencing consumers purchase behaviour towards halal cosmetics in India that can be capitalized on.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to identify the negotiation parameters of needs for Halal talents in Malaysia and proffer solutions on the sustainability of halal talents in Malaysia.
Design/methodology/approach
A focus group discussion was performed among seven Halal talents from the industries of various schemes. Using the theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ) analysis approach, a functional model, as well as causes and effect analysis, is generated by the participants. The model is translated into a contradiction matrix to obtain the necessary solutions in developing a sustainable framework for Halal Talents in Malaysia.
Findings
The cause-and-effect analysis reveals that poor career path, lack of training and poor salary structure are experienced by the participants.
Research limitations/implications
Having had vast categories of halal industries, this research focuses on nine schemes under halal certification JAKIM which excludes banking and tourism.
Practical implications
It is suggested that the implementation of mutual benefits should be in place to enhance positivism among Halal talents in the near future.
Originality/value
Unlike the social science approach, the use of TRIZ analysis provides a substantial framework of sustainability among halal talents in Malaysia.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the link between trade diversion risk and new Halal market exploration.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper analyzes the Halal trade flows for Malaysia’s top 11 halal food/food-related commodities from 1967 to 2018 by relying on co-integration and auto-regression techniques.
Findings
This paper determines that the greater the country’s current comparative advantage in an exported good, the higher the risk of export diversion between the Halal and conventional markets. The diversion risk, however, disappears with a lower current comparative advantage.
Practical implications
To take advantage of the fast-emerging Halal market, a country should expand export of commodities with relatively low current comparative advantage but high demand in the target market, along with supportive trade policies to build competitiveness in the long term.
Originality/value
This study fills the gap in the literature by investigating if the theory of comparative advantage can predict the market diversification risk that may arise from the expansion of exports to the Halal market occurring alongside existing exports to the conventional market.
