Abstract

Purpose

Based on the concepts confined in Ajzen's theory of planned behavior (TPB), this study investigates users' attitudes towards adoption of a blockchain-based framework in the esports industry that proposes a scheme of rewarding stakeholders for their invested attention along with blockchain technology's inherent protocols.

Design/methodology/approach

The present study uses RStudio (Version 1.3.1093) package RedditExtractoR for scraping and analysis of the discussion referring to the keyword “Verasity” on the Reddit website. The final corpus of 1,913 user comments was considered for the study. Sentiment analysis was initially conducted to explore the semantic orientation of the users concerning Verasity. This was followed by generalized equation modeling to analyze the impact of social media attributed to the users' commenting behavior.

Findings

The study found that Redditors, in general, have a positive attitude towards the adoption of a blockchain-based esports platform. This was validated through the empirical findings. The regression model states that there is a significant positive impact of the positivity in the comments over the Redditors' attitude and in their commenting behavior.

Originality/value

This study offers a new understanding of key contributing attributes of sentiment formation over social media concerning a blockchain-based esports framework. The study also establishes an empirical relationship between the social media attributes and the commenting behavior of Redditors. Finally, the current study offers valuable insights into social media engagements and the selection of highly influential Redditors for practicing marketing managers.

Abstract

Purpose

The present study aims to investigate an unsuccessful implementation of an active learning methodology. Active learning methods have emerged in order to improve learning processes and increase students' roles in the classroom. Most studies on the subject focus on developing learning strategies based on successful implementations of such methods. Nevertheless, critical reflections on unsuccessful cases might also provide material for developing further contributions to this literature.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors conducted an intrinsic case study of an unsuccessful application of the flipped classroom method to an undergraduate basic statistics course at a Brazilian business school. The data collected comprised the course's syllabus, evaluation forms and two rounds of interviews with students and the professor.

Findings

The findings indicate that, apart from that which had been mapped by past literature, three additional aspects may limit the chances of successfully implementing a flipped classroom methodology: students' educational backgrounds, the course's structural issues and methodological and relational issues.

Originality/value

The present study contributes to the literature on active learning methodologies mainly by mapping additional aspects that should be considered in the implementation of the flipped classroom methodology. Additionally, the authors investigate an unsuccessful case of such an implementation, an investigation that is still scant within this literature.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to identify the level of security from existing work, analyze categories of security as a service (SECaaS) and classify them into a meaningful set of groups. Further, the report will advise commercial applications and advice of SECaaS as an extended context to help firms make decisions.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper compares the SECaaS categories in Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) with the security clauses in ISO/IEC 27002:2013 to give a comprehensive analysis of those SECaaS categories. Reviewed from a number of related literature, this paper analyzes and categorizes SECaaS into three major groups including protective, detective and reactive based on security control perspectives. This study has discussed the three groups and their interplay to identify the key characteristics and problems that they aim to address.

Findings

This paper also adds new evidence to support a better understanding of the current and future challenges and directions for SECaaS. Also, the study reveals both the positive and negative aspects of SECaaS along with business cases. It advises on various sizes and domains of organizations to consider SECaaS as one of their potential security approaches.

Originality/value

SECaaS has been demonstrated to be one of the increasingly popular ways to address security problems in Cloud computing. As a new concept, SECaaS could be treated as integrated security means and delivered as a service module in the Cloud. However, it is still in infancy and not very widely investigated. Recent studies suggest that SECaaS is an efficient solution for Cloud and real industries. However, shortcomings of SECaaS have not been well-studied and documented. Moreover, reviewing the existing research, researchers did not classify the SECaaS-related categories.
