Abstract
Purpose
No one particular fluid has cooling and lubrication properties suitable for every metalworking application. The purpose of this paper is first, to investigate the effect of anionic and nonionic mixed emulsifier system in stabilization of cutting fluid formulations and second, to study the interaction synergism of the fulfill additives of metalworking fluids to achieve low scar diameters, high stability, anti rusting and corrosion properties.
Design/methodology/approach
A lot of set mixtures in this work were formulated to get the demand needed for soluble oil metalworking fluids. It was based on a blend of emulsifier package (anionic‐non ionic), and in order to reach acceptable manufacturing conditions, coupling agent, stabilizer, biocide, base oil and anti‐rust additives were added to the formulation. Different percentages of these components were incorporated to optimize the stability of the emulsifier system. Standard tests were carried out to evaluate the performance of oil‐in‐water (O/W) emulsions as lubricating and cooling fluids in machining operations. The evaluation was drawn in five factors; oil stability, emulsion stability, pH, anti‐rust (corrosion inhibition), biological activity and extreme pressure performance tests.
Findings
All tests achieved excellent results according to the ASTM. From the obtained results, the formula (named EPRI 950) exhibited a good performance compared with the commercial cutting fluid.
Originality/value

Abstract
In this paper, Isoparametric finite element formulations are derived for special elements for representing the steel‐concrete interface. Curved multi‐noded Isoparametric element for reinforcing steel idealization is proposed. In addition, special thin Isoparametric element in a form of a sheath is suggested in order to model the bond‐slip characteristics. Special provisions are taken into account to avoid numerical difficulties. The proposed elements are incorporated in non‐linear finite element program DMGPLSTS and applied to the problem of tension stiffening of reinforced concrete members. The results are noted to reflect a softer overall response attributable to the slip effect.

Abstract
The most simple equivalent frame system with reduced degrees of freedom is proposed for handling multi‐story multi‐bay infilled frames. The system is composed of homogenized continuum for the reinforced concrete members braced with unilateral diagonal struts for each bay, which are only activated in compression. Identification of the equivalent system characteristics and nonlinear material properties are accomplished from the concepts of inverse analysis approach along with statistical tests of hypotheses is employed to establish the appropriate filtering scheme and the proper accuracy tolerance. The suggested system allows for nonlinear finite element static and dynamic analysis of sophisticated infilled reinforced concrete frames. Sensitivity analysis is undertaken to check the suitability of the proposed system to manipulate various structural applications.

Abstract
Purpose
Roller compacted concrete (RCC) pavement is used in areas subjected to heavy impact loads; therefore, higher impact resistance is a desirable property of consideration. This study aims to investigate the effect of partial replacement of fine aggregate with crumb rubber (CR) and the addition of nanosilica (NS) by weight of cementitious materials on the impact resistance of roller compacted rubbercrete (RCR).
Design/methodology/approach
Four replacement levels of CR (0, 10, 20 and 30 per cent) and four addition levels of NS (0, 1, 2 and 3 per cent) were considered. The impact resistance test was carried out using the drop weight test recommended by ACI 544.
Findings
The results showed that the impact resistance of RCR increases with an increase in both CR and NS addition, though for CR above 20 per cent, sudden drop in impact resistance was observed. However, NS reduces the ductility of RCR by decreasing the post-cracking impact resistance. Response surface methodology was used to develop models for predicting the impact resistance of RCR, and the developed models showed a high degree of correlation. As a result of wide variations in the impact drop test data, two-parameter Weibull distribution function was used for the data analysis, and it was found that the probabilistic distributions of the first crack and ultimate failure impact resistance follow the two-parameter Weibull distribution function.
Originality/value
In this work, the effect of partial replacement of fine aggregate with CR and the addition of NS by weight of cementitious materials on the impact resistance of RCC pavement has been investigated. CR has been used to increase the impact resistance of RCC Pavement.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine numerically the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) free convection and thermal radiation heat transfer of single walled carbon nanotubes-water nanofluid within T-inverted shaped corrugated cavity comprising porous media including uniform heat source/sink for solar energy power plants applications.
Design/methodology/approach
The two-dimensional numerical simulation is performed by drawing on Comsol Multiphysics program, based on the finite element process.
Findings
The important results obtained show that increasing numbers of Rayleigh and Darcy and the parameter of radiation enhance the flow of convection heat. Furthermore, by increasing the corrugation height, the convection flow increases, but it decreases with the multiplication of the corrugation height. The use of a flat cavity provides better output than a corrugated cavity.
Originality/value
The role of surface corrugation parameters on the efficiency of free convection and heat transfer of thermal radiation within the porous media containing the T-inverted corrugated cavity including uniform heat source/sink under the impact of Lorentz forces has never been explored. A contrast is also established between a flat cavity and a corrugated one.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to determine the contribution of non-halal income and Islamic funds to Islamic banks’ financial performance and health level in Indonesia from 2014–2020.
Design/methodology/approach
The research uses secondary data from a sample of eight Islamic banks in Indonesia. Data analysis uses the panel data regression concept and the Random Effect Model.
Findings
The results of the data analysis show that non-halal income does not contribute to the financial performance or health level of Islamic banks during the observation period from 2014–2020, possibly due to its incompatibility with Sharia principles. Non-halal income, used solely for charitable activities, does not directly enhance operational performance or financial health. In contrast, Islamic funds contribute to financial performance [through the Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR) ratio] with an effect size of 12.99% and to the health level with an effect size of 24.31%.
Practical implications
Islamic banks in Indonesia should prioritize managing Islamic funds effectively, as they significantly enhance financial performance (12.99% impact via FDR ratio) and health levels (24.31% impact). Conversely, minimizing reliance on non-halal income, which showed no positive impact, can strengthen adherence to Sharia principles and bolster market confidence. Policymakers could support regulations encouraging the accumulation and prudent use of Islamic funds while ensuring rigorous monitoring of non-halal income sources. Comparative analysis with Sharia banks in other countries would provide additional insights into the global regulatory and operational landscape for Islamic fund management.
Social implications
Emphasizing Islamic funds over non-halal income in Islamic banks can foster greater community trust and ethical alignment with Sharia principles. By prioritizing Sharia-compliant financial practices, banks can cater better to religiously observant customers and contribute positively to societal values. This shift may enhance financial inclusion by attracting more deposits from individuals seeking ethical banking options. Additionally, it reinforces the role of Islamic finance in promoting economic stability and moral integrity within Indonesia’s financial sector. Policymakers’ support for such practices can further strengthen social cohesion and sustainable economic development, aligning financial activities with broader societal expectations and religious beliefs.
Originality/value
This study offers compelling insights into the distinct impacts of non-halal income and Islamic funds on Islamic banks’ financial performance and health in Indonesia, using robust panel data regression techniques. The findings reveal a critical dichotomy: while non-halal income shows negligible influence, Islamic funds significantly enhance financial performance (12.99% impact via FDR ratio) and health levels (24.31% impact). This nuanced analysis contributes uniquely to the literature by empirically quantifying these effects over a substantial observation period, offering practical implications for Islamic banking operations and regulatory frameworks. Such insights are pivotal for advancing strategies that align with Sharia principles and enhance institutional sustainability, with potential comparative relevance for Islamic banks globally.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to develop a distribution management system that determines the path toward lean distribution through teamwork. This system introduces a set of lean distribution initiatives regarding the structural and strategic facets of organizations.
Design/methodology/approach
Through studying the case, which is one of the largest distribution companies in the Middle East, the deployment process of the developed system is examined through chartering focus, deployment and operational teams. These teams held several rounds of panel discussions to formulate the strategic, tactical and technical plans required for making distribution operations lean.
Findings
It is found that the strategic focus of the case should not only be restricted to distribution initiatives but also the company can achieve a suitable competitive position by focusing on leadership and integral architecture of information, distribution and transportation channels. The first semi-year cycle of implementing the lean distribution system in the case targeted a 2.5% reduction in the ratio of distribution cost to sales by planning for the cross-docking adoption. It also aimed at a 10% increase in the market share for the prioritized market by a 20% reduction in lost sales owing to improper implementation of the processes.
Originality/value
The developed lean distribution management system is novel in the way it includes the strategy, structure and capabilities of an organization. Deploying this system causes a meaningful connection between lean distribution principles and operational initiatives.
