Abstract
Purpose
Bearings play a critical role in the reliable operation of induction machines, and their failure can lead to significant operational challenges and downtime. Detecting and diagnosing these defects is imperative to ensure the longevity of induction machines and preventing costly downtime. The purpose of this paper is to develop a novel approach for diagnosis of bearing faults in induction machine.
Design/methodology/approach
To identify the different fault states of the bearing with accurately and efficiently in this paper, the original bearing vibration signal is first decomposed into several intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) using variational mode decomposition (VMD). The IMFs that contain more noise information are selected using the Pearson correlation coefficient. Subsequently, discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is used to filter the noisy IMFs. Second, the composite multiscale weighted permutation entropy (CMWPE) of each component is calculated to form the features vector. Finally, the features vector is reduced using the locality-sensitive discriminant analysis algorithm, to be fed into the support vector machine model for training and classification.
Findings
The obtained results showed the ability of the VMD_DWT algorithm to reduce the noise of raw vibration signals. It also demonstrated that the proposed method can effectively extract different fault features from vibration signals.
Originality/value
This study suggested a new VMD_DWT method to reduce the noise of the bearing vibration signal. The proposed approach for bearing fault diagnosis of induction machine based on VMD-DWT and CMWPE is highly effective. Its effectiveness has been verified using experimental data.

Purpose
Centralized waiting lists (CWLs) for patient attachment to a primary care provider have been implemented across Canada, including Quebec. Little is known about the implementation of CWLs and the factors that influence implementation outcomes of such primary care innovations. The purpose of this paper is to explain variations in the outcomes of implementation by analyzing the characteristics of CWLs and contextual factors that influence their implementation.
Design/methodology/approach
A multiple qualitative case study was conducted. Four contrasting CWLs were purposefully selected: two relatively high-performing and two relatively low-performing cases with regard to process indicators. Data collected between 2015 and 2016 drew on three sources: 26 semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders, 22 documents and field notes. The Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research was used to identify, through a cross-case comparison of ratings, constructs that distinguish high from low-performing cases.
Findings
Five constructs distinguished high from low-performing cases: three related to the inner setting: network and communications; leadership engagement; available resources; one from innovation characteristics: adaptability with regard to registration, evaluation of priority and attachment to a family physician; and, one associated with process domain: engaging. Other constructs exerted influence on implementation (e.g. outer setting, individual characteristics), but did not distinguish high and low-performing cases.
Originality/value
This is the first in-depth analysis of CWL implementation. Results suggest important factors that might be useful in efforts to continuously improve implementation performance of CWLs and similar innovations.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the static and dynamic inelastic response of rigid and semi-rigid connections of steel structures with concrete-filled steel tube (CFST) columns built in high seismic areas, and to compare it with those with open section columns.
Design/methodology/approach
CFST columns are frequently used in moment resistant steel frames located in seismic areas due to their inherent advantages, including their ductility, energy absorption capacity as well as their high bearing capacity. The smart combination of steel and concrete makes it possible to benefit from the advantages of both components to the maximum. This research work presents the nonlinear dynamic response of moment resistant steel frames with CFST columns, with rigid or semi-rigid connections, built in high seismic areas, according to the Algerian seismic code RPA 99/2003, European EC8 and American FEMA 356 to show the nonlinear characteristics of this type of structures, and their advantages over steel frames with open section columns.
Findings
The paper presents the advantages of using CFST columns with rigid and semi-rigid connections on the seismic response of portal steel frames. A high performance level in terms of ductility, plastic hinges distribution and their order of appearance has been obtained. It also shows the low effect of seismic loading on the structural elements with CFST columns compared to structures with open section columns.
Originality/value
The investigation of the numerical results has shown the possibility of their use in the seismic areas for their adequate performance, and also with respect to the design limits specified in the seismic guidelines. In addition, this study represents a first step to develop seismic performance factors for steel structures with CFST columns in Algeria, where the Algerian code do not include a comprehensive specification for the composite steel structures.

Purpose
It is well known that the real behaviour of joints lies between the ideal pinned or rigid joint responses. Additionally the influence of this behaviour on the global structural response has been widely studied in the past centred on the plastic resistance or the critical load. On the other hand, there are relatively few studies focusing on the dynamical response of these structures. This paper aims to discuss these issues.
Design/methodology/approach
Two types of structures with rigid and semi-rigid joints were considered. Their inelastic response was evaluated using the N2 conventional pushover method, and were later compared to the results from a full non-linear dynamic analysis.
Findings
The results indicated that increasing joint flexibility makes the structure less rigid, lengthening its fundamental period and enhancing its horizontal displacement. Furthermore, a parametric study showed that joint flexibility might be of paramount importance to low to medium rise buildings response.
Originality/value
The evaluation of the influence of joint flexibility on the inelastic behaviour of steel structures located in seismic zone is of paramount importance, and is tackled in this paper.

Purpose
Accreditation helps to ensure safe and high-quality services in hospitals. Different occupational groups have various hospital accreditation experiences. The purpose of this paper is to investigate nurses’ accreditation experience and its effects on Iranian teaching hospital service quality.
Design/methodology/approach
This was a qualitative study involving a phenomenological approach to studying nurses’ hospital accreditation experience and understanding the effects on Iranian teaching hospital service quality. Data were collected using two focus groups in which nurses were selected using purposive sampling. Transcripts were analyzed using content analysis.
Findings
Nurses’ experiences showed that hospital administrators and nurses had greater role in implementing accreditation than other occupational groups. Accreditation improved patient-centeredness, patient safety, logistics and managerial processes and decision making. However, a weak incentive system, extra documentation and work stress were negative experiences.
Practical implications
Nurse experience, as the most important care team member, reveals accreditation’s strengths and weaknesses and its effects on service quality.
Originality/value
The author used a phenomenology approach to measure accreditation effects on service quality – a valuable tool for understanding a phenomenon among those that experience hospital accreditation processes.

Purpose
The study explores the effect of game flow, game enjoyment and game customization on consumers' attitudes toward the game (ATG). It also examines the relationship between consumers' ATG and attitude toward the in-game advertising (IGA) brand.
Design/methodology/approach
The study used SEM and PROCESS MACRO to analyze the results.
Findings
The study asserts the significant role of game flow, game customization and game enjoyment as antecedents of consumers' ATG. Furthermore, psychological ownership and perceived IGA invasiveness were found to be significant moderators between attitude toward game and attitude for the IGA brand.
Originality/value
The study examines how players’ attitude toward the game influences their attitude toward the IGA brand due to the player's ownership perceptions over the game and invasiveness perceptions for IGA. The study used psychological ownership and psychological reactance theory in the gamification context. The study findings present pertinent implications for game developers and brands interested in using IGA tools.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate Halbach array effects in surface mounted permanent magnet machine (SMPM) in terms of both self-sensing and torque capabilities. A comparison between a conventional SMPM, which has radially magnetized rotor, and a Halbach machine has been carried out.
Design/methodology/approach
The geometric parameters of the two machines have been optimized using genetic algorithm (GA) with looking Pareto. The performance of the machines’ geometry has been calculated by finite element analysis (FEA) software, and two parametric machine models have been realized in Matlab coupled with the FEA and GA toolboxes. Outer volume of the machine, thus copper loss per volume has been kept constant. The Pareto front approach, which simultaneously considers looks two aims, has been used to provide the trade-off between the torque and sensorless performances.
Findings
The two machines’ results have been compared separately for each loading condition. According to the results, the superiority of the Halbach machine has been shown in terms of sensorless capability compromising torque performance. Additionally, this paper shows that the self-sensing properties of a SMPM machine should be considered at the design stage of the machine.
Originality/value
A Halbach machine design optimization has been presented using Pareto optimal set which provides a trade-off comparison between two aims without using weightings. These are sensorless performance and torque capability. There is no such a work about sensorless capability of the Halbach type SMPM in the literature.

Abstract
Purpose
This study examines how an externally imposed management control system (MCS) – hospital accreditation – influences the salience of organisational tensions and consequently attitudes of management towards the system.
Design/methodology/approach
Data are collected using a case study of a large public hospital in Spain. In-depth interviews were conducted with 27 senior and middle managers across different functions. Relying on the organisational dualities classification in the literature, tensions are unpacked and analysed.
Findings
Evidence is presented of how hospital accreditation increases the salience of organisational tensions arising from exposition of the organisational dualities of learning, performing, organising and belonging. Salient tensions were evident in the ambivalent attitudes of management towards the hospital accreditation system.
Practical implications
The role of mandatory external control systems in exposing ambivalence and tensions will be of interest to organisational managers.
Originality/value
The study extends the management control literature by identifying an active role for an external MCS (accreditation) in increasing the salience of organisational tensions and triggering ambivalence. Contrary to the prior literature, the embedding of both poles of an organisational duality into the MCS is not a necessary precondition for increased tension salience. The range of attitudes towards MCSs beyond those specified in the previous literature (positive/negative/neutral) is extended to include ambivalence.
