Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to determine whether an inclusive teaching session changes student attitudes towards people with intellectual disabilities (ID). To investigate the impact of an inclusive teaching session in terms of student perceptions.
Design/methodology/approach
66 years 4 students at Cardiff University completed the attitudes towards disabled people form B questionnaire (ATDP-B) before and after a communication skills session on ID. Before and after scores were collated and compared using a paired t-test analysis. Common perceptions were identified using anonymised ATDP-B results to conduct five semi-structured interviews and one focus group with nine students. The common perceptions were discussed, alongside how the teaching session tackled them and suggestions for further improvements.
Findings
Mean ATDP-B score before the teaching session was 115 (SD = 14.5). Mean ATDP-B score after the teaching session was 122 (SD = 17.2). The teaching session improved scores in the ATDP-B by a mean of 6.92 (4.69, 9.16). A paired t-test found this to be a statistically significant difference, t(65) = 6.20, p < 0.001. Qualitative data was thematically analysed and three main themes were identified: Student identity, patient contact and curriculum content.
Originality/value
This is the first study to investigate the origin of the negative attitudes of medical students, and found they stem from a lack of confidence in their abilities and failure to develop a professional identity. The impact of the teaching session stems from its focus on meaningful patient contact and identifying and overcoming communication barriers.

Abstract
Purpose
This study explores faculty members’ (FMs’) perceptions of the internationalization of curriculum (IoC) at the undergraduate level through the collection of data from two countries: Pakistan and the UK. The similarities and differences in internationalization strategies were explored. Historical and existing educational ties between the two contexts and an equally emerging focus on internationalization at home (IaH) provided a major cornerstone for this study.
Design/methodology/approach
Quantitative data were collected from two universities using a cross-sectional and comparative research design by employing a reliable and valid scale with three subscales: curriculum embedded in labor market information, curriculum embedded in employability skills and curriculum embedded in global citizenship (CGC). A comparison between the perceptions of these two universities, by taking perceptions of FMs across their disciplines, and experienced and less experienced FMs was made.
Findings
The findings indicate a global influence on the local context for IaH and the importance of experienced FM. Various disciplines in these universities are congruent with respect to these three subscales, except for one, the CGC for engineering and design. The findings reveal the global influences on the local contexts in the internationalization of curriculum and the relevance of experienced FMs in terms of curriculum and labor market experiences rather than years of service. The findings examine the importance of IaH in both contexts. Since the study was quantitative in nature, an in-depth understanding of FMs’ experiences could not be obtained.
Practical implications
Globalization and intercultural ties have led to IaH, as intercultural ties and connections seem to contribute to IoC. Context- and discipline-related differences provide implications for IoC, considering sociocultural and institutional factors.
Originality/value
This study provides a new perspective to help understand the influence of globalization on internationalizing higher education.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to investigate the relationship between financial inclusion and sustainable economic development in Indonesia by exploring the potential impact of Takaful. Specifically, the study seeks to examine the feasibility of leveraging Takaful as a means to foster financial inclusion and drive economic growth in Indonesia.
Design/methodology/approach
This study uses a qualitative analysis methodology, specifically using content analysis techniques, to investigate the relationship between financial inclusion and sustainable economic growth in Indonesia, focussing on the role of Takaful. The content analysis enables a systematic study of the data to identify trends and topics pertinent to Takaful and its potential to advance financial inclusion.
Findings
The study’s results reveal a direct causal link between economic growth and achieving financial inclusion through the use of Takaful. The findings also indicate a positive correlation between the increased presence of Takaful markets and accelerated economic growth.
Research limitations/implications
The study examines only the use of Takaful in achieving financial inclusion and sustainable economic growth in Indonesia. Nonetheless, the practical implications of this research are substantial, as they highlight the potential of Takaful to foster financial inclusion and stimulate economic growth in Indonesia.
Practical implications
This study contributes to the limited body of research on the relationship between financial inclusion and economic growth in Indonesia, specifically in the context of Takaful.
Originality/value
This study’s value lies in its exploration of an under-researched area, providing crucial insights into the potential of Takaful to promote financial inclusion and drive economic growth in Indonesia. The social implications of this study are also noteworthy, as increased financial inclusion and economic growth can positively affect poverty reduction, job creation and overall societal well-being in Indonesia.

Abstract
Purpose
There have been numerous publications on human monkeypox since it was reported. With the help of bibliometric analysis, this study examined research hotspots and future trends related to human monkeypox. Science mapping was used in this study to identify influential monkeypox researchers, institutions, articles, keywords, thematic structures, and clusters of articles.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on a validated search query, bibliometric analysis of data collected from Web of Science from 1989 to September 2022 was conducted. Using the “Title-Keyword-Abstract” search option, the search query consisted of keywords “Monkeypox” OR “Monkeypox virus” OR “monkeypox” OR “monkey pox” OR “MPXV.” With the state-of-the-art tools Bibliometrix package of R Studio and VOSviewer, performance analysis and science mapping, as a part of standard bibliometric research of monkeypox research were conducted.
Findings
Researchers published 708 monkeypox papers from 1989 to September 2022, with American researchers publishing 460 papers. Further, USA had the highest international cooperation in terms of collaborative research output. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is a global leader in monkeypox research since it is the most prolific and collaborative organization. There have been the most published papers on monkeypox in the Journal of Virology. Damon Inger K is also the most prolific and influential researcher in monkeypox research, with the highest number of publications and citations. In total, 1,679 keywords were identified in the study. From the cluster analysis four themes were identified in monkeypox research. They are (1) clinical features, (2) monkeypox virus epidemiology, (3) monkeypox virus vaccine defense, and (4) monkeypox virus-related treatment measures.
Originality/value
Analysis of collaboration, findings, networks of research, and visualization separates this study from traditional metrics analysis. Currently, there are no similar studies with similar objectives based on the authors' knowledge.
