Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to study the antifriction, antiwear and tribolayer formation properties of the trihexyltetradecylphosphonium bis(2,4,4-trimethylpentyl) phosphinate ionic liquid (IL) as additive at 1 wt.% in two base oils and their mixtures, comparing the results with those of a commercial oil.
Design/methodology/approach
The mixture of the base oils used in the formulation of the commercial oil SAE 0W20 plus the IL was tested under rolling/sliding and reciprocating conditions to determine the so-called Stribeck curve, the tribolayer formation and the antifriction and antiwear behaviors.
Findings
The use of this IL as additive in these oils does not change their viscosity; improves the antifriction and antiwear properties of the base oils, making equal or outperforming these properties of the SAE 0W20; and the thickness and formation rate of the tribolayer resulting from the IL-surface interaction is highly dependent on the type of base oil and influence on the friction and wear results.
Originality/value
The use of this IL allows to replace partial or totally commercial antifriction and antiwear additives.

Abstract
Purpose
This research investigates the impact of Industry 4.0 technologies (I4.0) on the resilience of manufacturing firms against the COVID-19 pandemic. The study explores the mediating effects linked to the firm’s supply chain resilience and absorptive capacity in this relationship.
Design/methodology/approach
The empirical analysis involves 304 manufacturing firms and uses Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). A two-step hierarchical component model has been employed, considering the statistical analysis validation (reliability and validity) of the LOC and HOC models. The choice of the manufacturing industry is justified due to its degree of automation in emerging economies, such as Mexico, and its significant impact on job creation and the national gross domestic product.
Findings
The results confirm the positive impact of I4.0 technologies on companies’ resilience to COVID-19. They also support the indirect effects of the firm’s supply chain resilience and absorptive capacity. Absorptive capacity was found to have a higher significant indirect effect than supply chain resilience. Consequently, the study accentuates the significance of leveraging external knowledge and highlights the role of acquisition, assimilation, transformation, and exploitation capabilities in enhancing absorptive capacity.
Research limitations/implications
The implications of this research extend to both manufacturing companies and public administrations, suggesting the need for I4.0 technologies implementation and supportive policies aimed at fostering absorptive capacity.
Originality/value
This research contributes to the literature by filling gaps in empirical studies in the context of developing economies. It provides valuable insights into the effects of I4.0 on absorptive capacity, supply chain resilience, and COVID-19 resilience, particularly in non-essential supply chains. It enriches the understanding of how I4.0 impacts the absorptive capacity and resilience of the supply chain during the COVID-19 crisis.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to identify Critical Success Factors (CSFs) for tourism route development and proposes a tailored conceptual model. It addresses a comprehensive range of tourism routes, considering their respective goals and performance.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors applied a qualitative approach to investigate five tourism routes, interviewing 31 current and former members and examining secondary data from organisational documents. A conceptual model was developed through content analysis of transcripts and secondary data.
Findings
Based on the identified CSFs, the model is organised into six components: Product, Goals, Resources, Governance, Activities and Performance assessment.
Research limitations/implications
The study analyses various tourism routes concerning their products, implementation levels, goals, performance and perceived success.
Practical implications
Most respondents are public authorities from European countries. Besides, consideration should be given to developing quantitative research to validate the derived theory.
Social implications
The model may facilitate participants in enhancing and developing tourism routes, thereby contributing to achieving sustainable development goals related to rural-urban connections and tourism partnerships.
Originality/value
The development of tourism routes is expected to impact socio-economic development in rural/peripheral areas positively.

Diseño/metodología/enfoque
Aplicamos un enfoque cualitativo para investigar cinco rutas turísticas. Entrevistamos a 31 miembros y examinamos datos secundarios de documentos organizativos. Se desarrolló un modelo conceptual mediante el análisis de contenido de transcripciones y datos secundarios.
Resultados
Basado en los FCE identificados, el modelo está organizado en seis componentes: Producto, Objetivos, Recursos, Gobernanza, Actividades y Evaluación del desempeño.
Originalidad
El estudio analiza diversas rutas turísticas en relación con sus productos, ubicaciones y nivel de implementación, así como los objetivos, rendimiento y éxitos percibidos de los involucrados.
Limitaciones/implicaciones de la investigación

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of the present paper is to quantify and analyze the strain-rate dependence of the yield stress for both unfilled acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) and short carbon fiber-reinforced ABS (CF-ABS) materials, fabricated via material extrusion additive manufacturing (ME-AM). Two distinct and opposite infill orientation angles were used to attain anisotropy effects.
Design/methodology/approach
Tensile test samples were printed with two different infill orientation angles. Uniaxial tensile tests were performed at five different constant linear strain rates. Apparent densities were measured to compensate for the voided structure. Scanning electron microscope fractography images were analyzed. An Eyring-type flow rule was evaluated for predicting the strain-rate-dependent yield stress.
Findings
Anisotropy was detected not only for the yield stresses but also for its strain-rate dependence. The short carbon fiber-filled material exhibited higher anisotropy than neat ABS material using the same ME-AM processing parameters. It seems that fiber and molecular orientation influence the strain-rate dependence. The Eyring-type flow rule can adequately describe the yield kinetics of ME-AM components, showing thermorheologically simple behavior.
Originality/value
A polymer’s viscoelastic behavior is paramount to be able to predict a component’s ultimate failure behavior. The results in this manuscript are important initial findings that can help to further develop predictive numerical tools for ME-AM technology. This is especially relevant because of the inherent anisotropy that ME-AM polymer components show. Furthermore, short carbon fiber-filled ABS enhanced anisotropy effects during ME-AM, which have not been measured previously.

Purpose
This chapter examines the lives of Central American immigrant workers, with a focus on the paramount position of legal status in immigrants’ lives.
Findings
The legal context into which Central American immigrant workers arrive creates the various legal statuses they hold, which in turn dictate the kind of jobs they can obtain, where they live and, in general, shape their prospects in the United States. Although many Central Americans have held various forms of temporary protection from deportation, such relief is temporary and therefore subject to multiple extensions, applications, forms, and renewals, which serve to accentuate these immigrants’ legal uncertainty. Given their legal predicament and the consequent truncated paths to mobility, many Central American immigrant workers live in poverty; indeed, they are more likely to live in poverty than other foreign born. At the same time, they have high labor force participation rates. Their high rates of poverty coupled with high labor force participation rates indicate that their jobs do not pay much. In spite of these circumstances, they remit a significant portion of their earnings to their non-migrating family members in the origin countries.
Practical implications
The largely unchanged occupational and sectorial concentrations of Central Americans in the U.S. economy over the last two decades underscores the critical implications of legal status for immigrant incorporation and socioeconomic mobility.
Originality/value
This chapter exposes the vulnerabilities imposed by a precarious legal status and highlights the importance of more secure legal statuses for immigrant workers’ potential integration and paths to mobility.

Abstract
Purpose
The objective of this paper is to contribute to Australian berry supply chains with a relevant identification regarding the possible data driven interventions that stakeholders can take while the berries are in transit.
Design/methodology/approach
An exploratory series of semi-structured interviews was conducted through six Australian experts in the industry with more than 20 years of experience in Australian berry supply chains and the Australian perishable food industry, to identify key possible in-transit interventions that could be implemented in the Australian berry industry.
Findings
The analysis of the interviews revealed a total of 18 possible in-transit interventions. An important finding is that in-transit interventions are made possible by the use of real-time data gathered through IoT devices such as Active Radio Frequency Identification, Time and Temperature Indicators interacting with Wireless Sensor Networks. Another key finding is that Australian berry growers and retailers do possess the technologies and the resources necessary to make in-transit interventions possible, however they have yet applied these technologies to operational decision-making and interventions based on the product, rather focussing on supply chain transactions and events.
Research limitations/implications
Since the research focusses on an Australian context, its findings may or may not be applicable to other countries. The research is exploratory in nature, and its findings should be verified by future research, in particular to test whether the in-transit interventions proposed here can be implemented in a cost-efficient way.
Originality/value
To the authors' knowledge, this publication is the first known academic article to provide a clear understanding of the Australian berry industry from a supply chain and logistics perspective, and the first to explore possible data driven in-transit interventions in perishable food supply chains.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this investigation is to study the corrosion inhibition of carbon steel (CS) using a “green” inhibitor, Opuntia ficus-indica, in an aerated, 0.5 M H2SO4 solution at different concentrations and temperatures.
Design/methodology/approach
Weight loss determinations, surface studies, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and potentiodynamic polarization were applied during the investigation.
Findings
It was observed that Opuntia ficus-indica extract can decrease the corrosion rate of CS, and its efficiency increases with increasing concentration up to 1,000 ppm and with time, but decreases with increasing the temperature from 25 to 600C. The inhibitory activity is due to the presence of phenolic compounds in its chemical structure.
Research limitations/implications
The work was done under static conditions, whereas in acid cleaning conditions, there is a dynamic system. However, the findings may apply to both the systems.
Practical implications
CS is used in acidic environments in the acid cleaning industry.
Social implications
Results of this work show that it is possible to reduce the cost of repair of equipment and the environmental impact of corrosion.
Originality/value
There are very few investigations on the study of Opuntia ficus-indica leaf extract as a green inhibitor in an acidic environment.
