Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of the study is to provide insights into the process of decision making. Indian Railways as an organization has to use the available resources based on thorough analysis and proper application of available evaluation methodologies.

Design/methodology/approach

This study uses an integrated group discussion – analytical hierarchy process (AHP) to prioritize capital-intensive Indian Railways projects.

Findings

Through an email-based survey, six important criteria for ranking upcoming domestic freight corridors were selected, and weights for these criteria were calculated through AHP. The sensitivity analysis of the decision model suggests that the results of this study are significant, reliable and robust.

Originality/value

This study lays a foundation for the decision-makers of Indian Railways to consider a scientific approach while finalizing the big investment projects. This paper provides essential insights on prioritizing capital-intensive transport projects and is readily applicable to any case study.

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a branch of computer science, and Chatbot relies on the technology of AI. Chatbot has an AI feature which can be used for many messaging applications. A chatbot has a very advanced and promising interaction between humans and machines. They are a representative of systematic evolution of a question-answering natural language processing (NLP). Today, India has over 4.6 crores investor accounts with Central Depository Services (India) Limited (CDSL) who are actively investing in stocks, mutual funds, insurance and banking schemes. Chatbot plays an important role today in investor awareness and grievance resolution. Chatbots offer several advantages like standardised operations, higher efficiency and time saving but it has several disadvantages such as lack of human touch and inability to understand fragmented or grammatically incorrect sentences. There are several objections as it may contribute to further unemployment in many sectors. Overall analysis indicates that Chatbot application has a lot of potential in the investment sector in country like India.

Abstract

Purpose

In the ever increasing competition in the employment market, an organization’s need to become a “great place to work” has gained significant momentum. Employer branding has thus emerged as an essential management practice employed by the organization to create its image as desirable employer in the eyes of prospective employees. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the understanding of employer branding through the eyes of “potential” young employees in Delhi and North Central Region, India. The results presented in this paper throw light on the perceived importance of employer branding among the prospective employees via analysis of various branding factors chosen for the study. The study results report that the perceived significance of employer branding factors differs mainly across gender and age of prospective employees. Notably, public and private sectors are being perceived significantly different by the potential job applicants on employer branding factors. Thus, this paper presents important findings enabling employers to build brand value and an attractive reputation in the job market so as to attract and retain the best talent.

Design/methodology/approach

Survey methodology was used to test the hypothesis. The sample was selected from Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR) primarily from the students of business schools who were randomly selected to fill in the questionnaire. As they are the potential hires, it seemed appropriate to know their preference of employer branding factors. They are ready to join the corporations therefore, data extracted would be much more suitable as they can throw light on their immediate preferences and provide insight into the research study. For collection of data an online structured questionnaire was administered. A total of 270 questionnaires were administered and 239 filled questionnaires were received.

Findings

From the results it can be seen that private sector emerged as preferred sector of choice for the majority of potential employees. However, there are some factors which are handled well in private sector as compared to public sector and vice versa. There are some factors like – stability of the company, work-life balance and job security which potential employees perceive as important and therefore, need to be addressed by both public and private sector organizations.

Research limitations/implications

Limitation of this study is that the findings cannot be generalized therefore, provide opportunities for further research. Moreover, the sample included only students as prospective employees seeking a new job or a career change. Thus the results obtained on a sample of relatively inexperienced job seekers, might partially reflect commonly held stereotypes of attractive organizations. Hence, it is interesting to use other samples such as experienced job seekers or those who are currently employed. Another limitation is that the study is restricted to Delhi and NCR region hence, the data is not representative of a wider population. Further research may expand the scope in terms of sample size as well. Future research may also explore the extent of employee attraction and retention vis-à-vis employer branding factors in organizations. A final avenue for future studies consists in exploring the processes which underlie the organizational choice decisions of prospective applicants.

Practical implications

This study has added to the growing body of research on employer branding factors by generating more knowledge and arguments in favor of certain employer branding factors in the workplace. If organizations truly want to attract good talented people then management needs to bring about the necessary organizational support and infrastructure at the early and middle stages of an employee’s career which are most often the stages where important choices are made. They need to be more considerate toward employee needs. Efforts can be made to build a good work culture by paying heed to their preferences. Therefore, this study helps establish a foundation for implementation of various employer branding factors which are perceived important by the potential job applicants, especially in Indian context. The findings are of particular important for human resource (HR) managers and policy makers in both public sector as well as private sectors in these times of increased inter-sectoral personnel movement. These findings can be utilized as a guiding instrument while inter-sectoral recruitment is being made. These would also enable employers to take appropriate action in order to build their employer brand based on certain discussed employer branding factors so as to attract talent which in turn would also help them in retaining talent.

Social implications

There are many employer branding factors which tend to affect the mindset of potential employees in selecting their prospective employer. Employers can therefore, endeavor to understand those factors at length so as to attract talent which in turn would also help in retaining talent.

Originality/value

Results throw light on the perceived importance the potential employees give to various employer branding factors taken for the study. Perceived significance attached to employer branding factors differs across gender, age, education background, etc. It was also found that for some important employer branding factors public and private sectors are being perceived significantly different by the potential job applicants. Thus, paper presents important findings that would enable employers to take actions in order to build their employer brand so as to attract talent which in turn would also help them in retaining talent.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to offer an overview of the models of clinical care of the patients with dual disorders in India.

Design/methodology/approach

All the members of the Dual Diagnosis India Network (DDIN) who shared the clinical care delivery at their center were invited to share the details of their model. In addition, an invite was also sent to those members who could not attend the online session but were interested in contributing the required information about their model. The information shared by the respondents was collated. The different models were then categorized based on their features.

Findings

Following the categorization of the clinical care services organization across different settings, five different models emerged. These were specialized dual diagnosis clinic; services for dual disorders offered as substance use disorder (SUD) treatment services within general psychiatry care; services for dual disorders in general psychiatry care; services for dual disorders offered as SUD treatment services separated from general psychiatry care; and services for dual disorders offered in general psychiatry services combined with exclusive SUD treatment services.

Originality/value

Currently, there is limited literature on models of dual disorders from the low- and middle-income countries. The authors believe that the documentation of these models from India shall be of help while setting up services for dual disorders in other health-care settings. This study can be a valuable resource for making informed choices while setting up new services.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to measure the influence of peers, and the Government and non-governmental organization (NGO) initiatives on an individual’s attitudinal drivers such as environmental knowledge and environmental concern, which are the reasons for their green purchasing intentions. This concept was applied among the Indian young consumers.

Design/methodology/approach

For the research, a structured online questionnaire was used to obtain responses from 342 Indians from various cities. The participants were 20-25 years of age. SPSS software package was used to refine the data while SmartPLS was used to test the validity of the hypotheses.

Findings

The findings revealed that the Government and NGO initiatives along with peer influence do have a significant effect on a consumer’s environmental knowledge and environmental concerns. Further, this study found a significant positive effect of environmental knowledge and environmental concern on perceived value. In turn, the perceived value had a direct positive impact on green attitude leading to green purchase intention.

Practical implications

This paper provides critical insights for marketers, as well as for governmental agencies and NGOs promoting the conservation of the environment through environmental-friendly practices. These parties aim to generate greater awareness among consumers and impart knowledge about the benefits of green practices.

Originality/value

The studies measuring the impact of external factors on green consumption are scarce. Even the few studies available have measured the direct impact of external factors on green purchase intention. Governmental and NGO initiatives along with peer influence are the stimuli impacting operational factors such as environmental knowledge, environmental concern, perceived value, and green attitude, which, in turn, lead to the response of green purchase intention. This study provides new insights to this relationship by using a stimulus – organism – response framework.

E-governance is the term used to describe the use of communication and information technologies for government. It guarantees information flow transparency, aiding in the improvement and redefinition of social, environmental and economic values. The implementation of numerous central and state initiatives is the responsibility of the Rural Development Department. The execution of almost all systems makes use of Management Information Systems (MIS) software. The state government's policy aims to provide top-notch internet services with a focus on the needs of the citizenry. A number of programmes, including CRISP, NEGP, NIC, E-choupal, Gyandoot, etc. have already been put into use, and more e-government initiatives are in the operation. In a country like India, where demand is high owing to a huge population, alleviating poverty is more crucial and infrastructure is a significant determinant for faster economic growth. By providing improved access to essential commodities like roads, water, drainage, energy, transportation, infrastructure would raise inhabitants' quality of life. One thing is certain: the development of the Indian economy will be fuelled by technologically driven e-Governance solutions as it strives to become a global superpower. The initiatives made in the field of e-Governance that can hasten economic development are therefore the main emphasis of this chapter, which is based on secondary sources. E-governance initiatives can aid in advancing good governance. E-promotion of governance can be of more inclusive governance and can aid in resolving the enormous global issues associated with poverty alleviation. The chapter will go on to outline how e-governance software enables stakeholders to not only monitor quality, cost, and schedule but also regulate deviations through ongoing automated monitoring, escalations, and transparency. The anticipated problems and limitations of e-governance initiatives are also described.

Abstract

Purpose

The present research work has tried to investigate the impact of workplace bullying (WB) on turnover intention (TI); the study has also analyzed the effect of psychological health (PH) and resilience (RS) indirectly as mediators in between WB and TI. Further, the role of perceived HRM as a moderator directly and through RS has been tested. The study has been carried in the context of Indian IT sector.

Design/methodology/approach

The analysis of the moderated mediation model was done through PLS-SEM, owing to the medium size of the sample. SmartPLS 3 was used to check on the psychometric principles if any for the measurement model and also adopt a two-step analysis for the proposed model.

Findings

The findings of the present study have validated the empirical model, showing a significant relationship in between the proposed constructs. WB had a positive impact on TI whereas PH and RS turned out to be partial mediators but there was no evidence as to which mediator had a larger impact. Further, perceived HRM served as a moderator in between WB and TI and also through RS.

Originality/value

The study is first of its kind which has tried to investigate an exhaustive mediated moderation model in the Indian IT sector. The study has postulated that it is not just the HRM content but the perceptions of employees toward HRM which can be beneficial in resolving sensitive issues such as WB and eventually turnover intents.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to offer a holistic halal cosmetic consumption framework by describing the current knowledge about halal cosmetics and presenting new directions for future research.

Design/methodology/approach

The theory, method and context–attributes, decision and outcome systematic review framework was used in this study. This study addresses the halal cosmetics literature published in the Scopus database: nonpredatory journals between 2010 and 2021.

Findings

This study found seven antecedent categories that affect four halal cosmetics consumption decisions. Those decisions led to three outcomes. In addition, behavioral theories were identified as the most frequent theory used to explain this phenomenon in personal and business settings.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first systematic review of halal cosmetics consumption. This study explores the relevant theories, contexts, methods, antecedents and consumer decisions. Therefore, this study offers important insights into this phenomenon.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study was to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice about probiotic use among health professionals of Ahmedabad, India.

Design/methodology/approach

A structured questionnaire was prepared. The questionnaire consisted of 12 close-ended questions related to definition, mechanism of action, safety consideration, health benefits, sources and four questions to assess their attitude and practice about probiotics. Total 267 healthcare professionals were requested to fill the questionnaire. Participants were doctors, medical students, nutritionists, nutrition students, pharmacists and pharmacy students.

Findings

Results of the survey revealed that most of the participants (93.25 per cent) were aware of the term probiotic, 66.66 per cent professionals were able to answer the right mechanism of action of probiotics. Only 54.68 per cent health professionals knew the health benefits correctly. There was a significant difference between the knowledge of professionals from different fields (p < 0.05). Medical students had highest knowledge scores, whereas nutrition students had lowest knowledge scores. There was no significant difference between knowledge of doctors, pharmacist and nutritionist, but knowledge of medical students was significantly higher than the nutrition students (p < 0.05). Majority of the respondents (85.76 per cent) believed that probiotics are useful for patients. Nearly 50 per cent preferred probiotic food over probiotic drugs. Almost half of them (48.68 per cent) agreed that probiotics can significantly affect the outcome of any therapy.

Originality/value

Nutritionists and medical students have shown to be more knowledgeable about probiotics than professionals and students of other fields. A positive and significant correlation was found between knowledge and attitude of healthcare providers.
