Abstract

Purpose

Waste classification plays an important role in reducing pollution, promoting waste recycling and resource utilization. This paper aims to explore the multiple reasons that affect the performance of waste classification governance.

Design/methodology/approach

Content analysis of the existing waste classification policies is conducted using the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) model. Based on this analysis, influencing factors are identified through the technology-organization-environment (TOE) research framework. The condition configurations and action paths that cause differences in governance performance are derived using the fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis method (fsQCA).

Findings

The results show that there are spatial and temporal disparities in waste classification policies among different provinces/cities. In most situations, the implementation effect of policy combinations is better than that of a single type of policy, with mandatory policies playing a key role. Additionally, a single influencing factor cannot constitute the bottleneck of high governance performance. Policy topics coordinate with environmental and technical factors to influence governance performance. Finally, in light of China's actual governance situation, several targeted implications are proposed for the practical optimization of local government waste classification governance.

Originality/value

This paper presents a novel approach by integrating multiple heterogeneous data sources from both online and offline channels, adopting a public-government perspective and applying the fsQCA method to investigate the combined effects of technical, organizational and environmental factors on waste classification governance performance across 31 provinces and cities in China.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to systematically demonstrate a methodology to determine the relative and absolute encapsulation efficiencies (αRe and αAb) for thermally- and chemically-robust inorganic pigments, typically like ZrSiO4-based pigments, thereby enhancing their coloring performance.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors designed a route, surplus alkali-decomposition and subsequently strong-acid dissolution (SAD2) to completely decompose three classic zircon pigments (Pr–ZrSiO4, Fe2O3@ZrSiO4 and CdS@ZrSiO4) into clear solutions and preferably used inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) to determine the concentrations of host elements and chromophores, thereby deriving the numeric data and interrelation of αRe and αAb.

Findings

Zircon pigments can be thoroughly decomposed into some dissoluble zirconate–silicate resultants by SAD2 at a ratio of the fluxing agent to pigment over 6. ICP-OES is proved more suitable than some other quantification techniques in deriving the compositional concentrations, thereby the values of αRe and αAb, and their transformation coefficient KRA, which maintains stably within 0.8–0.9 in Fe2O3@ZrSiO4 and CdS@ZrSiO4 and is slightly reduced to 0.67–0.85 in Pr–ZrSiO4.

Practical implications

The SAD2 method and encapsulation efficiencies are well applicable for both zircon pigments and the other pigmental or non-pigmental inhomogeneous systems in characterizing their accurate composition.

Originality/value

The authors herein first proposed strict definitions for the relative and absolute encapsulation efficiencies for inorganic pigments, developed a relatively stringent methodology to determine their accurate values and interrelation.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to adopt both the fragments of imidazole and thiosemicarbazide as reaction centers, to synthesize a water-soluble corrosion inhibitor named as thiosemicarbazide-imidazole derivative (TH-IM).

Design/methodology/approach

This paper presents potentiodynamic polarization tests, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy tests and morphology study of metal surface by scanning electron microscope and thermodynamic study.

Findings

In the aggressive condition of CO2 saturated Wt. NaCl solution at 333 K for 72 h with 400 ppm inhibitor dosage, the efficiency of inhibition increases approximately 98 per cent through the method of weight loss.

Originality/value

This paper finds a new corrosion inhibitor about TH-IM which has a good solubility in water.

Abstract

Purpose

This research aims to examine which cooperative contract (wholesale-price contract or cost-sharing contract) can more effectively upgrade the green degree of product and promote demand when considering consumer reference price effect under different power structures.

Design/methodology/approach

This research investigates a dyadic green supply chain composed of one manufacturer and one retailer. Four Stackelberg game models with a cost-sharing contract or a wholesale-price contract are built in retailer-led and manufacturer-led scenarios, respectively. Using backward induction, the optimal green decision under each model is obtained. In addition, the optimal cooperative contract is proposed by comparing these four models.

Findings

It is found that under consumer reference price effect, a cost-sharing contract outperforms a wholesale-price contract in upgrading product greenness and promoting demand. Under any single contract, the retailer-led situation is more conducive to improving product greenness than the manufacturer-led situation. Moreover, consumer reference price effect would reduce the sharing ratio of a cost-sharing contract when the manufacturer dominates, but it could mitigate the problem of double marginalization by reducing wholesale and retail prices under both types of contracts, which would enhance consumer surplus.

Originality/value

It is a new attempt to incorporate consumer reference price effect and power structure into a green supply chain framework and proposes a novel demand function that simultaneously emphasizes consumer reference price effect, consumer environmental awareness and product green attribute. In addition, it provides managerial insights for business managers to choose green cooperative contracts with consumer reference price effect under different power structures.

Abstract

Purpose

This study examines how responsible leadership drives sustainable reconfiguring in multi-tier supply chains, addressing the recognized challenges of implementing sustainable practices in complex, global value chains, particularly in the face of the management challenges posed by the high complexity of multi-tier supply chains.

Design/methodology/approach

Data were collected from 475 Chinese manufacturing firms between December 2023 and June 2024. Structural equation modeling with maximum likelihood estimation was used to assess linear relationships, followed by least-squares linear regression to verify model robustness. Neural network modeling was then applied to explore potential nonlinear relationships among variables.

Findings

The study empirically confirms that responsible leadership was a direct driver of sustainable reconfiguring, and social capital partially mediated the relationship between responsible leadership and sustainable reconfiguring. In addition, it was found that in highly complex supply chains, responsible leadership has a more significant driving effect on sustainable reconfiguring, i.e. supply chain complexity positively moderates the relationship between responsible leadership and sustainable reconfiguring.

Originality/value

This study contributes to the field by uniquely examining responsible leadership as a driver of sustainable supply chain reconfiguration, highlighting its role in resource acquisition through social capital from a resource dependence perspective. Unlike prior studies that treat supply chain complexity primarily as a management obstacle, this research uncovers its role as a “demand driver” in sustainable reconfiguration, offering fresh insights into complexity’s strategic impact. This approach provides a novel framework for understanding the nuanced pathways through which leadership style and situational factors collectively shape sustainable practices in supply chains.
