Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to investigate the emerging new phenomenon of corporate blogging and its objectives. In particular, this study focuses on how Fortune 500 firms attempt to maintain control, while supporting employee autonomy in corporate blogging.
Design/methodology/approach
Using the framework of corporate blogging strategies proposed in this study, corporate blogging practices of the 2005 Fortune 500 companies were analysed.
Findings
Most organisations maintain high levels of control by implementing top‐down blogging strategies, while few support employee autonomy by applying a bottom‐up blogging strategy. Because of the inherent limitation of each strategy, many organisations attempt to take advantage of the complementary mechanism that balances autonomy and control. Organisations emphasising bottom‐up blogging tend to focus on product development and customer service content strategy, while those practising top‐down blogging focus on thought leadership or promotional content strategy.
Research limitations/implications
This study reports leading blogging firms among the Fortune 500 companies. However, the study sample accounts for only 3.6 percent of the 500 firms. The results of the study shed insights on newly emerging corporate blogging in terms of its trends, issues, and possible future direction.
Practical implications
Companies that adopt blogs must realise that developing a candid dialogue with customers is the best way to build a meaningful customer relationship.
Originality/value
This study is the first attempt to systematically investigate the corporate blogging phenomenon.

Abstract
A joint local studies library and museum database is being developed to support the services in the new central library and museum which is being built in Croydon and which will open in 1994. The requirements of three service groups (museum, local studies and archives), have been defined and the processes of selection and the preliminary stages of development are described. Details of the features specified in the Request for Proposal are included.

The purpose of this paper is to study the general actuator modeling in spacecraft attitude control systems.
Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to study the general actuator modeling in spacecraft attitude control systems.
Design/methodology/approach
The proposed module in this paper provides various non-ideal factors such as the second-order dynamic time response, time-delay, bias torques, dead-zones and saturation. The actuator module can make the simulation as close to the practical situation as possible.
Findings
This paper presents a practical integrated module for the simulation of attitude control algorithms. Based on theoretical modeling, we give simulation modules and numerical examples. The proposed model can be directly used in spacecraft control simulation. Instead of considering only a few of them, it makes the simulation more convincing. Though it may not be perfect, it is better than totally ignoring the actuator dynamics.
Originality/value
The authors provide an integrated actuator model for spacecraft attitude control simulation, considering as many nonlinear factors as possible once time.

This paper aims to investigate the feasibility of using the combination of Lorentz force and aerodynamic force as a propellantless control method for spacecraft formation.
Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to investigate the feasibility of using the combination of Lorentz force and aerodynamic force as a propellantless control method for spacecraft formation.
Design/methodology/approach
It is assumed that each spacecraft is equipped with several large flat plates, which can rotate to produce aerodynamic force. Lorentz force can be achieved by modulating spacecraft’s electrostatic charge. An adaptive output feedback controller is designed based on a sliding mode observer to account for unknown uncertainties and the absence of relative velocity measurements. Aiming at distributing the control input, an optimal control allocation method is proposed to calculate the electrostatic charge of the Lorentz spacecraft and control commands for the atmospheric-based actuators.
Findings
Numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy in the presence of J2 perturbations. Simulation results show that relative motion in a formation can be precisely controlled by the proposed propellantless control method under uncertainties and unavailability of velocity measurements.
Research limitations/implications
The controllability of the system is not theoretically investigated in the current work.
Practical implications
The proposed control method introduced in this paper can be applied for small satellites formation in low Earth orbit.
Originality/value
The main contribution of the paper is the proposal of the propellantless control approach for satellite formation using the combination of Lorentz force and aerodynamic force, which can eliminate the requirement of the propulsion system.

Abstract
Outlines the evolution of the idea of private property in the West and in early Islamic states; and its practical translation into property rights in land in the UK, Islamic territories and South Asia. Provides a glossary of terms which may be unfamiliar to Western readers and argues that the East India Company’s Permanent Settlement Regulation in South Asia recognized existing rights and did not create new ones. Believes that understanding this is important for any evolutionary theory of the South Asian economy.

Abstract
Reading University Library installed a Sirsi Unicorn library management system in 1997. This paper provides a discussion of the impact of implementing such a client/server system and describes some of the new features offered: Electronic Data Interchange, automatic e‐mailing of system‐generated notices, holds and recalls and so on. The impact of the new system on staff within the library and with other university departments is also discussed. The paper concludes with a list of future projects planned and overall impressions of the system.

Abstract
The vision for Telecom New Zealand's intranet – “one company working together online” – is being realised, thanks to the decision to move the entire intranet to a content management system. The challenge was to move over 220 disparate sites to a single platform and develop a strategy for future development. This article outlines how a governance model was developed and standard intranet architecture aligned to business objectives; 35,000 pages of content were migrated and delivered on the vision, while building a solid foundation for the future of the intranet in the organisation.

Abstract
Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic (formerly Recording for the Blind) has been providing audio recordings of educational texts since its founding in 1948. RFB&D's master tape library currently contains over 80,000 volumes, making it the largest resource of its kind in the world. Beginning in 1992, RFB&D initiated a project to develop an online public access catalog that would allow both institutional providers and individual borrowers to search its holdings and order recorded texts via the Internet. Also in 1993, a coordinated pilot project was begun to allow a limited test group of institutional sites and individuals the ability to use the catalog‐ordering mechanism in an effort to gather structured feedback on the usefulness of the system and suggestions for improvements. Although the project cannot be considered an overwhelming success, much insight has been gained as a result of our efforts and will be of considerable value in the development of a future improved version of RFB&D's online public access catalog.

Abstract
The author develops and extends the asymptotic F- and t-test theory in linear regression models where the regressors could be deterministic trends, unit-root processes, near-unit-root processes, among others. The author considers both the exogenous case where the regressors and the regression error are independent and the endogenous case where they are correlated. In the former case, the author designs a new set of basis functions that are invariant to the parameter estimation uncertainty and uses them to construct a new series long-run variance estimator. The author shows that the F-test version of the Wald statistic and the t-statistic are asymptotically F and t distributed, respectively. In the latter case, the author shows that the asymptotic F and t theory is still possible, but one has to develop it in a pseudo-frequency domain. The F and t approximations are more accurate than the more commonly used chi-squared and normal approximations. The resulting F and t tests are also easy to implement – they can be implemented in exactly the same way as the F and t tests in a classical normal linear regression.
