Abstract
Purpose
Analyzing medicare data is a role undertaken by the government and commercial companies for accepting the appeals and sanctioning the claims of those insured under Medicare. As the data of medicare is robust and made up of heterogeneous typed columns, traditional approaches consist of a laborious and time-consuming process. The understanding and processing of such data sets and finding the role of each attribute for data analysis are tricky tasks which this research will attempt to ease. The paper aims to discuss these issues.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper proposes a Hierarchical Grouping (HG) with an experimental model to handle the complex data and analysis of the categorical data which consist of heterogeneous typed columns. The HG methodology starts with feature subset selection. HG forms a structure by quantitatively estimating the similarities and forms groups of the features for data. This is carried by applying metrics like decomposition; it splits the dataset and helps to analyze thoroughly under different labels with different selected attributes of Medicare data. The method of fixed regression includes metrics of re-indexing and grouping which works well for multiple keys (multi-index) of categorical data. The final stage of structure is applying multiple aggregation function on each attribute for quantitative computation.
Findings
The data are analyzed quantitatively with the HG mechanism. The results shown in this paper took less computation cost and speed, which are usually incurred on the publicly available data sets.
Practical implications
The motive of this paper is to provide a supportive work for the tasks like outlier detection, prediction, decision making and prescriptive tasks for multi-dimensional data.
Originality/value
It provides a new efficient approach to analyze medicare data sets.

The importance of corporate governance was recognized aftermath the major corporate scandal and regulators all over the world tightened regulations. When Sarbanes-Oxley Act was passed, President of United States George W. Bush proclaimed that “the era of low standards and false profits are over.” Following the path, SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) introduced clause 49 to the listing agreement to enhance transparency and integrity to financial statements. Adequate disclosures thus ensure good governance. The concept of corporate governance is more than a decade old in India. Following Satyam Scandal, Indian Industry groups and regulators advocated a number of reforms which led to MCAs (Ministry of Company Affairs) Corporate Governance Voluntary guidelines 2009 to encourage and guide companies to adopt superior practices like appointing board committees, the appointment and rotation of external auditors, and creating a whistle blowing mechanism. The new Companies Amendment bill made the corporate governance disclosures even more stringent. Hence this is an attempt on our part to construct an objective overall corporate governance score to reflect the whole firm governance practices as per the disclosure requirements of clause 49 of the listing agreement of SEBI as well as the insights from the various academic studies to score each element of corporate governance and study the impact of governance on corporate performance represented by Tobin Q.

Corruption in India reached a crescendo between 2011 and 2013, with the exposure of the 2G Spectrum scandal and the “Coalgate” report fiasco at the top of all recent events. The largest working democracy is under the scanner. As the third largest economy in Asia, a nuclear power, and an information technology powerhouse, India has a lot to clean up. Current experience shows the failure of the top investigative agencies and the lack of political will to tackle corruption. The spate of high-level corruption scandals has also led to a popular movement in 2011, which also fizzled out, including the newly introduced “Anti-Corruption, Grievance Redressal and Whistleblower Protection Act, 2011.” This chapter examines the several issues involved.

Purpose
Optimization involves changing the input parameters of a process that is experimented with different conditions to obtain the maximum or minimum result. Increasing interest is shown by antenna researchers in finding the optimum solution for designing complex antenna arrays which are possible by optimization techniques.
Design/methodology/approach
Design of antenna array is a significant electro-magnetic problem of optimization in the current era. The philosophy of optimization is to find the best solution among several available alternatives. In an antenna array, energy is wasted due to side lobe levels which can be reduced by various optimization techniques. Currently, developing optimization techniques applicable for various types of antenna arrays is focused on by researchers.
Findings
In the paper, different optimization algorithms for reducing the side lobe level of the antenna array are presented. Specifically, genetic algorithm (GA), particle swarm optimization (PSO), ant colony optimization (ACO), cuckoo search algorithm (CSA), invasive weed optimization (IWO), whale optimization algorithm (WOA), fruitfly optimization algorithm (FOA), firefly algorithm (FA), cat swarm optimization (CSO), dragonfly algorithm (DA), enhanced firefly algorithm (EFA) and bat flower pollinator (BFP) are the most popular optimization techniques. Various metrics such as gain enhancement, reduction of side lobe, speed of convergence and the directivity of these algorithms are discussed. Faster convergence is provided by the GA which is used for genetic operator randomization. GA provides improved efficiency of computation with the extreme optimal result as well as outperforming other algorithms of optimization in finding the best solution.
Originality/value
The originality of the paper includes a study that reveals the usage of the different antennas and their importance in various applications.

This paper seeks to conduct an in‐depth study of international trends in private higher education and focus on the Indian scenario
Design/methodology/approach
The methodology adopted is conceptual, analytical and comparative.
Findings
Though there has been better acceptability of private higher education institutions in India today than the “trepidation” felt at their emergence three decades ago, certain basic questions have been raised: Is the presence of private sector in higher education inevitable? Is it desirable too? Why is the Supreme Court of India intervening in matters pertaining to private higher education so frequently? What are the issues at stake?
Originality/value
An attempt is made to highlight the political‐economic, socio‐cultural, national‐international, ethical‐philosophical and legal‐practical aspects of this outreaching theme, in general, and focus on the driving forces, causes, and consequences of the emergence of the private higher education during the last three decades, in particular.

The following are the learning objectives of the case study: to address the problem of urban food insecurity. To facilitate the generation of more employment opportunities and women empowerment through self-help groups (SHGs). To understand the transition from the founder to new leadership provided by Ms J Jayalalithaa. To understand consumer perception and preferences for “Amma canteens”. To appreciate how the case study has added to the historical role of soup kitchens. To address the challenges faced by the government on the sustainability and viability of “Amma canteens” post the death of its founder Ms Jayalalithaa.
Case overview/synopsis
“Amma Unavagam” is a food subsidisation programme operated by the State Government of Tamil Nadu in India. Under the scheme, municipal corporations of the state are required to run canteens that serve subsidised food. The canteens were first launched by the then Chief Minister of the state Ms Jayalalithaa, who was widely acknowledged as “Amma”. These low-cost canteens will be announced as part of government schemes aimed to support economically disadvantaged sections of society. The scheme had been able to generate employment for thousands of women. However, the success of the scheme lies in the low prices and the cooperative management of all the outlets by the SHGs. The SHGs have been able to run the canteens based on self-governing norms, mutual reciprocity and shared responsibilities. This case study evaluates the role of state-sponsored mechanisms to ensure food security, alleviate food inflation and empower more women in the workforce. Yet, several concerns continue to remain unaddressed. Considering the huge amount of subsidy provided by the state government, the sustainability and economic viability of the scheme are uncertain.
Complexity academic level
This case study can be used for management students studying the basics of management such as teamwork, motivation, leadership and good governance. They may also study government policies and community intervention programmes for the benefit of society. The present case study will help the students to analyse the concept of women empowerment and social inclusion. The students, before discussing the case, may study and read the socio-economic theory of “community engagement and participation”, the “self-help model” and the related “theory of reasoned action/planned behaviour”.
