Abstract
Purpose
This work is an extension of research on worker participation in achieving career success by including a prominent contextual construct, that is social capital. The present research aims to study how competency development influences the intrinsic career success of females in the handicraft industry, by considering the role of perceived employability as a mediator and social capital as a moderator. By doing so, this paper aims to fill the vacuum in the career literature that suggests that career success is not gender neutral.
Design/methodology/approach
Data was collected from handicraft workers by adopting the survey method. CFA and SPSS macro named PROCESS were used to analyse data.
Findings
Competency development influences the subjective career success of female workers, and perceived employability mediated the relationship between them. Moreover, social capital independently moderates the relationship between the participation of workers in competency development and perceived employability.
Research limitations/implications
The study is conducted in the Indian context alone, and therefore future studies must be conducted globally to deepen the scholarly dialogue on female workers' career success. Also, the current study measures career success, from a subjective perspective, thus future studies can measure female workers' objective career success.
Practical implications
The current paper identifies the need to study the factors contributing to female workers' career success in small industries.
Social implications
Conventional industries and their workers' career success must be given equal importance by researchers, practitioners and policymakers.
Originality/value
The paper fills the gap in career research by exploring female workers' career success through empirical evidence.

Abstract
Purpose
This study conceptualises the construct – green competencies. The concept is in the niche stage and needs further elaboration. Hence, to address the research gap, this study follows the steps proposed by Tranfield et al. (2003). The major part of the study comprises descriptive analysis and thematic analysis. Descriptive analysis of the selected 66 articles was examined with the classification framework, which contains year-wise distribution, journal-wise distribution, the focus of the concept, the economic sector, and dimensions of sustainable development. The paper conducts a thematic analysis of the following research questions. What are the green competencies and their conceptual definition? What are their dimensions?
Design/methodology/approach
This paper applies a systematic literature review of green competencies literature, extends the state-of-the-art using the natural resource-based view, and discusses future research directions for academicians and practitioners.
Findings
In recent years, there was considerable interest in green competencies (GC), as reflected in the surge of articles published in this genre. This paper asserts that green competencies are a multidimensional construct comprised of green knowledge, green skills, green abilities, green attitudes, green behaviours, and green awareness.
Originality/value
Despite the significance of green competencies, there has been a dearth of study to define the constructs and identify the dimensions. Hence, this study addresses the literature gap by conceptualisation and discusses dimensions of the construct.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate how servant leadership, trust in leader and thriving drive employee creativity.
Design/methodology/approach
Using a dyadic sample of 48 teams (each team comprising a supervisor and the subordinates under him), the authors investigated the role of servant leadership in predicting employee creativity, the mediating role of trust in leader and interactive role of thriving therein.
Findings
Findings of the study revealed that servant leaders instilled trust within followers, which acted as a mediator in predicting creativity. Further, thriving was found to act as a moderator that influenced the relationship between trust in leader and employee creativity. Findings also indicated that thriving employees exhibited a greater degree of creative behavior when they trusted their leader.
Research limitations/implications
Based on these findings, the study draws the attention of managers toward the role of servant leadership, trust in leaders and thriving in promoting employee creativity.
Originality/value
This is one of the first studies to integrate servant leadership, trust in leader, thriving and creative behavior into a single theoretical model. The study further provides evidence to validate the proposed model in context of predicting employee creativity.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to conduct an in-depth analysis of the literature and provide new insights on skill development research in India. Objectives in the study are twofold. First is to conduct descriptive analysis in terms of structural dimensions such as geographical context, focus on skill development, research methods, economic sector, type of training and origin of the study. The second objective is to conduct thematic analysis on importance of skill development, institutional and regulatory mechanisms, skill development as an antecedent for technology adoption, role of skill development in women empowerment, integrating skill development with secondary education and labour market reforms for skill development.
Design/methodology/approach
Systematic literature review method is employed to review 45 articles on skill development research in India conducted between 2004 and 2017.
Findings
The review discusses about the importance of skill development, the role of institutions such as NSDA and PMKVJ, skill development as a necessity in the advent of technological changes, an effective measure to empower women in the country and the need of integrating skill development with secondary education. Labour market reforms are required to overcome challenges such as mismatch between theory and practice, low quality of skills assimilated, the mismatch between demand and supply of skilled labour force, low level of in-house training, low cooperation from students and employees due to lack of incentives and lack of qualified teachers.
Originality/value
This study is the first to offer a systematic literature review on skill development. The study provides insights into the concept of skill development, specifically for academicians to carry out research in a niche area and for government authorities in policy formulation.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to analyse the impact of authentic leadership (AL) on academic optimism (AO) through the mediating role of affective commitment (AC). As this study also examines the moderating role of training comprehensiveness (TC) in strengthening the relation between AC and AO.
Design/methodology/approach
Data were collected from school teachers and their immediate principal and were further analysed through confirmatory factor analysis and hierarchical regression analysis.
Findings
Data analysis provided significant support to the hypotheses presented in the study. AC partially mediated the link between AL and AO, and TC moderated the linkage between AC and AO significantly.
Originality/value
This study provides novel basis to improve the overall functioning of schools and teachers’ performance. It provides ways to improve the overall AO in Indian schools.

Abstract
Purpose
The catastrophic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have considerably impacted the labour market and increased job insecurity among workers. This study systematically reviews the literature on job insecurity conducted in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic with three key objectives. First, to identify the key antecedents of job insecurity during the pandemic. Second, to identify the outcomes associated with job insecurity during the pandemic. Third, to identify the underlying boundary conditions that strengthened or alleviated the association between the antecedents of job insecurity and its associated outcomes.
Design/methodology/approach
The study followed PRISMA 2020 guidelines for the selection and inclusion of scientific literature by systematically searching five electronic databases, namely, Scopus, ScienceDirect, PubMed, Web of Science and Psych Info.
Findings
A perception of health-related risks, negative economic consequences and organizational restructuring during the pandemic were the primary factors contributing to job insecurity among workers. The consequences encompassed detrimental impacts on health and well-being, proactive measures undertaken by employees to alleviate the threat of job loss, and a variety of tactics employed to cope with stress arising from job insecurity. The boundary conditions elucidate the factors that alleviated job insecurity among workers and influenced both their work and non-work outcomes.
Originality/value
This is the first systematic review summarizing the literature on employees' experiences with job insecurity amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on a systematic review, this study provides doable steps that HR managers can take to effectively manage job insecurity among workers, particularly during a crisis.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between authentic leadership (AL) and employee extra role behaviour (ERB) while determining the mediating effect of psychological capital (PC) and moderating effect of autonomy on that relationship.
Design/methodology/approach
Data were collected from 42 small- and medium-sized hospitals in the state of Uttarakhand, India. The sample for the study included 520 nurses and their 163 supervisors. Process macro (Hayes) was used to examine the mediating role of PC and the moderating role of autonomy in the relationship between AL and ERB.
Findings
Results indicate that AL is positively linked to ERB of followers. Further, PC was found to mediate the relationship between AL and ERB while autonomy acted as a moderator between PC and ERB.
Practical implications
Findings of the study would help hospital managements understand the importance of technical and behavioural training of nursing staff and supervisors. The paper draws the attention of hospital administrators towards the need for formulating policies that are less restrictive and allow for greater autonomy to the nursing staff. Further, this study highlights the importance of an effective leadership approach like AL in service-oriented organizations such as healthcare institutions.
Originality/value
This study contributes to existing research on AL and ERB by showing that PC and autonomy are important and relevant variables that affect the degree of influence that AL has on employee ERB.

Abstract
Purpose
Among the various human resource practices (HRPs), high performance human resource practice (HPHRP) is gaining substantial importance both from academia as well as industry. Although HPHRP and its work related outcomes have been studied in the previous literature, none have tried to unveil the mediating and moderating factors which strengthen the relationship of HPHRP and organizational innovation (OI). The purpose of this paper is to observe the effect of HPHRP on OI in Indian information technology-information technology enabled services (IT-ITES) sector, where employee competency (EC) is proposed as a mediator and climate for innovation (CI) as a moderator.
Design/methodology/approach
The methodology used for data collection was through survey questionnaires. For a good model fit and empirical validation of the proposed model confirmatory factor analysis was done and SPSS macro, PROCESS was used for further analysis.
Findings
Results showed that HPHRP has an influence on OI wherein ECs mediate the relationship between HPHRP and OI, additionally CI positively mitigates the interaction between HPHRP and ECs.
Originality/value
The present study is the first of its kind which has empirically examined the mediation/moderation interactions between HPHRPs, ECs, CI and OI in Indian IT-ITES sector. The present research has also responded to the calls of previous research by identifying as to how HRPs create a context for innovative performances.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to try to profess that human resource management and knowledge are key antecedents, the amalgamation of which helps in developing the human capital (HC) which in turn generates employee’s service innovative behavior. Previous researches have studied the combination of human resource management (HRM) and knowledge perspective but not explicitly, there remains a significant gap and the HRM-innovative behavior literature remains unexplored.
Design/methodology/approach
SPSS 21, AMOS 21 and SAS 9.1 software were used to calculate the reliability of the scales, convergent, discriminant validity and overall fitness of the proposed model. SPSS macro called PROCESS was used to determine the indirect effect if any. Further, hierarchical linear modeling was performed to test the group level effect on the proposed model.
Findings
The research work confirms the role of knowledge-based human resource management (KHRM) practices as a precursor to HC, thus influencing the employee service innovative behavior when the person–organization fit is high rather than low. The literature has also elaborated on the central role of knowledge mechanisms in influencing a firm’s capability to support novel ideas and creative work patterns.
Originality/value
The present study has tried to investigate a very novel topic, i.e., KHRM practices whose literature are negligible. The research work has highlighted as to how KHRM practices which are basically non-tangible, rare, non-imitable can influence the innovative work-behavior of employees in a less knowledge-intensive industry such as the tourist hotels.

Abstract
Purpose
The current digital work environment promoting a “constant-on” culture is a hotbed for cyber incivility. Thus, there is a pressing need to understand its mechanisms. This study aims to shed light on the triggers, sources and impact of rude behaviours in cyberspace. The authors also present the boundary conditions that exacerbate or alleviate the effects of such negative experiences.
Design/methodology/approach
Through a systematic literature review based on predefined search protocols, the authors synthesised the current knowledge on cyber incivility and identified 21 peer-reviewed research articles.
Findings
The findings reveal the different sources of cyber incivility, its personal, relational and organisational antecedents and consequences, and its personal and situational boundary conditions that curb or enhance the negative impact.
Research limitations/implications
The authors unravel the main future research avenues based on the review findings by systemising knowledge on cyber incivility. Managerial efforts in the form of interventions and mitigation are also discussed to help combat this grieving issue in the workplace.
Originality/value
This paper presents the first systematic review of the cyber incivility literature and identifies new avenues for future research. Scholars can expand upon the findings of this study to fill gaps and move the incivility in cyberspace forward. It also offers practical insights on mitigating the advancement of such behaviours in organisations.
