Abstract
Purpose
National guidelines in the UK for emotionally unstable personality disorder and antisocial personality disorder (PD) do not recommend treatment with medication, suggesting instead psychotherapy. There is little evidence that medication has benefit from the literature. Despite this, many patients with PDs are prescribed medications. This study aims to quantify medication prescriptions within the therapeutic community for those with PD and assess if treatment led to changes in prescription.
Design/methodology/approach
An audit tool was designed in Microsoft Excel; 30 most recent patients discharged from the authors’ service since November 2018 were identified. Their discharge summaries were scrutinised for changes in medication comparing the beginning of treatment to the end. These were then analysed in terms of changes in class of medication and dose as well as total number of medications prescribed.
Findings
In total, 31 patients’ notes were scrutinised. Then, 25 patients were prescribed psychiatric medication at the start of their treatment, 24 had medications changed falling to 17 at the end of treatment. Antidepressants were the most commonly prescribed medications. By class, antidepressant prescriptions fell by 35 per cent, antipsychotics by 43 per cent, anxiolytics by 40 per cent. The prescription of mood stabilisers and Z drugs remained the same.
Originality/value
The assessment of medication changes during psychotherapeutic treatment within a therapeutic community is unique in the literature. Understanding and hypothesising the dynamics involved within this process has also received little attention in research. This study highlights the potential from which further research into this neglected but pertinent area could be conducted.

A total of 16 in‐depth interviews with women who intentionally practise non‐consumption for sustainability were completed.
Findings
Two major themes where identified: I versus them: the careless consumers, and The objective/subjective dialectic in mundane practices.
Originality/value
While it is tempting to delineate one concept from another, in practice, both anti‐consumption and consumer resistance intersect and represent complementary frameworks in studying non‐consumption.

Abstract
Purpose
The intensive 18-month treatment in the personality disorder (PD) therapeutic community (TC) is felt to offer improvement in many aspects of patients’ lives. This study aims to understand if the use of acute services was also affected via a service evaluation project.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors collected data from electronic records on the use of local services in the two years before, during and the two years after treatment in the TC. Specifically, the authors counted inpatient bed days, Emergency department (ED) presentations and days under home treatment team and liaison psychiatry; the authors used ANOVA to analyse the data.
Findings
The study included 25 adult service users, 17 female and 8 male, with an average age of 40. Whilst there were reductions in the use of inpatient beds and ED presentations, on analysis, these were not found statistically significant. The small size of the study is a limitation and may limit the generalisability of the findings. The study concludes there may be reductions in acute psychiatric service use during and after treatment in the TC. The findings were not statistically significant; the authors suggest larger multi-centre studies may be able to demonstrate statistical significance.
Originality/value
PD patients have a relatively high use of acute psychiatric services compared to other patient groups. The authors are not aware of any similar studies in the published literature.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate mentors' and mentees' perspectives of the mentor role within an education doctoral mentoring program at a mid-sized public institution.
Design/methodology/approach
Data from individual interviews with mentors and mentees were collected as part of a larger case study of a doctoral mentoring program. Mentees were doctor of education (EdD) students in their first and second years of the program. Mentors were identified as individuals who graduated from or are further along in the doctoral program. Five (N = 5) mentees and seven (N = 7) mentors participated in interviews, which were then transcribed and coded to identify emergent themes, along with transcripts of presentations given by the mentors.
Findings
Four themes emerged within the data: differentiating support roles, mentoring as a way to identify gaps in doctoral student needs, mentoring as support for doctoral student success and ways to provide suggestions for mentoring program improvement. Results indicated that mentors and mentees viewed the mentor role as being unique from the roles of faculty advisor and dissertation chair. Mentors and mentees alike responded positively to virtual mentoring.
Research limitations/implications
Participation by mentors and mentees was limited to first- and second-year doctoral students; thus, dissertation-stage students' perceptions of mentoring could not be determined. Implications include the value of mentoring in filling the gaps of support for doctoral students and the capability of mentoring programs to be adapted to unexpected circumstances such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
Originality/value
This study targets scholar-practitioner students in an EdD program, who are often overlooked by mentoring literature, and distinguishes research between faculty mentoring and mentoring performed by other students/recent graduates. Additionally, the pandemic gave the authors an opportunity to explore adapting mentoring to virtual formats.

Abstract
This chapter draws on 10 years of ethnographic fieldwork collected in gay bars from three American cities to explore the strategies LGBTQ subcultures deploy to recreate meaningful places within the vestiges of local queer nightlife. As gentrification and social acceptance accelerate the closures of LGBTQ-specific bars and nightclubs worldwide, venues that once served a specific LGBTQ subculture (i.e., leather bars) expand their offerings to incorporate displaced LGBTQ subcultures. Attending to how LGBTQ subcultures might appropriate designated spaces within a gay venue to support community (nightlife complexes), how management and LGBT subcultures temporally circumscribe subcultural practices and traditions to create fleeting, but recurring places (episodic places), and how patrons might disrupt an existing production of place by imposing practices associated with a discrepant LGBTQ subculture(place ruptures), this chapter challenges the notion of “the gay bar” as a singular place catering to a specific subculture. Instead, gay bars increasingly constitute a collection of places within the same space, which may shift depending on its use by patrons occupying the space at any given moment. Beyond the investigation of gay bars, this chapter contributes to the growing sociological literature exploring the multifaceted, unstable, and ephemeral nature of place and place-making in the postmodern city.

Purpose
This paper aims to strengthen the process of design thinking by aligning it with netnography, specifically auto-netnography, which this paper asserts is particularly suited to the task of studying and enriching the actions of “designerly types” who seek to fashion monetisable businesses.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper conducts an auto-netnography with a structure divined from established design thinking theory – that of empathising, defining, ideating, prototyping and testing – to afford an understanding of how a popular health food influencer designs a successful vegan restaurant.
Findings
This paper illustrates the empathetic relationship between a long-term audience member and an entrepreneur/designer/marketer. The intimate cultural analysis reveals the nature of their symbiotic entwinement. In a way that few other methods could, the method shows how this sense of reciprocity, deepens over time.
Research limitations/implications
Conducting an auto-netnography is a prolonged and difficult task. Nonetheless, by revealing the rituals, expectations, roles and routines of content creators, designers and followers, this paper illustrates exciting possibilities for the enactment and development of design thinking in the marketing field.
Practical implications
Designerly types such as marketers and content creators should closely study, listen to and interact with consumers by using a similarly staged process that draws equally from design thinking and auto-netnography.
Originality/value
Prior to this study, existing research has not previously linked design thinking with either netnographic or auto-netnographic research.

This paper provides an integrative and analytical review of prior empirical studies with two research questions: What nonfinancial factors influencing employee turnover have been empirically identified across different generations? and What generational commonalities and uniqueness exist among the turnover antecedents?

To identify nonfinancial antecedents of employee turnover, an integrative literature review that allows a systematic process of searching and selecting literature was conducted. Findings
The authors discuss each antecedent according to three categories: individual, group and organizational levels. Based on the findings from the first research question, the authors further explore the commonalities and uniqueness among three generations (i.e. Millennials, Generation X and older workers).
Originality/value
This study found both generational commonalities and uniqueness in terms of turnover intention antecedents. Based on the findings of the study, the authors discuss how to facilitate these common factors across all generations as well as considering the factors unique to each generation. Differentiation within organizations regarding retention strategies should yield positive results for both employees and organizations.
