Abstract

BRAKE parachutes are used on aeroplanes, as a complement to the wheel brakes, in order to reduce the landing run, for instance when landing on slippery runways. Normally, the landing is performed with an engine speed, which after touch down corresponds to ground idle power. This idle power varies for different types of aeroplanes, which means that the engine jet in certain cases can give a considerable contribution to the load on the deployed brake parachute, caused by the aeroplane velocity.
