Abstract

THE rapidly growing technology of vehicles that are either totally supported or partly supported by air cushions has many branches along which future development may progress. Perhaps the most important of these, which cover most of the field, can be divided into the following six groups:—

Abstract

In this manual of current hovercraft practice, the authors have produced a volume containing all the basic information required for a study of the factors relating to internal aerodynamics, drag, propulsion, performance, controls and stability, and structural design, as well as a good many of the problems likely to arise in the consideration of these principles and parameters. The intention is to detail the progress made in these various fields up to the present time and the first part of the book includes a survey of hovercraft economics and the evaluation of operating costs. The development of prime movers is detailed with observations on the adaptations of existing engines which up to now have been all that are available to the designer of these vehicles, with the consequent restrictions imposed. The whole work is characterised by a practical approach in which the mathematical analysis presented is at no time more complex than is strictly necessary for the understanding of the subject. Pertinent historical facts are also included of the various craft produced and their main characteristics.

Abstract

As the cost of powerful microcomputer hardware continues to decrease each year, the demand for sophisticated software designed to take advantage of these low cost machines increases. This inverse relationship is especially true in the human services field where budgets are almost always tight and the need for information continues to increase as the client population grows.
