Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to introduce an innovative strategy for the approximate solution of the heat flow problems in two- and three-dimensional spaces. This new strategy is very easy to implement and handles the restrictive variable that may ruin the physical nature of the problem.
Design/methodology/approach
This study combines Sawi transform (ST) and the homotopy perturbation method (HPM) to formulate the idea of Sawi homotopy perturbation transform method (SHPTM). First, this study implements ST to handle the recurrence relation and then incorporates HPM to derive the series solutions of this recurrence relation. ST has the advantage in that it does not require any assumptions or hypothesis for the evaluation of series solutions.
Findings
This strategy finds the results very accurate and close to the precise solution. The graphical observations and the surface solution demonstrate that SHPTM is a reliable and powerful scheme for finding the approximate solution of heat flow problems.
Originality/value
The study presents an original work. This study develops SHPTM for the approximate solution of two- and three-dimensional heat flow problems. The obtained results and graphical representation demonstrate that SHPTM is a very authentic and reliable approach.

Abstract
Purpose
Renewable energy sources such as solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind are ubiquitous because of their lower environmental impact. Output from solar PV and wind turbines is unstable; hence, this article aims to propose an effective controller to extract maximum available power.
Design/methodology/approach
By focusing on the varying nature of solar irradiance and wind speed, the paper presents the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique for renewable energy sources, and power regulation is made by the novel inverter design. Moreover, a DC–DC boost converter is adopted with solar PV, and a doubly fed induction generator is connected with the wind turbine. The proposed MPPT technique is used with the help of a rain optimization algorithm (ROA) based on bi-directional long short-term memory (Bi-LSTM) (ROA_Bi-LSTM). In addition, the sinusoidal pulse width modulation inverter is used for DC–AC power conversion.
Findings
The proposed MPPT technique has jointly tracked the maximum power from solar PV and wind under varying climatic conditions. The power flow to the transmission line is stabilized to protect the load devices from unregulated frequency and voltage deviations. The power to the smart grid is regulated by three-level sinusoidal pulse width modulation inverter.
Originality/value
The methodology and concept of the paper are taken by the author on their own. They have not taken a duplicate copy of any other research article.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to extract the dye colourant from teak leaves using different aqueous mediums (Alkaline, Neutral and Acidic); to characterize the dye in terms of yield %; ash content and moisture content; to standardize the conditions of application of dye extracted from teak leaves on selected natural and synthetic fabrics using selected natural and chemical mordants; to assess the colour value (K/S, L*, c*/ h*, a*, b*) and fastness properties of the dyed samples in terms of wash, rub, light and perspiration fastness; and to develop dyed and printed designs using combinations of mordant and extracted dye.
Design/methodology/approach
Stage 1 – Extraction of dye from teak leaves; and characterization of dye: yield% ash content and moisture content. Stage 2 – Preparation of fabrics for dyeing; optimization of mordanting parameters using pre mordanting method followed by post mordanting; and optimization of dyeing parameters. Stage 3 – Testing of dyed fabric – Colour Measurement; K/S L*a*b*/L*c*h*; fastness properties; wash fastness done in the Laundrometer using ISO 2 standard test method; crock fastness done by Crockmeter using AATCC 116–1995 test method; perspiration fastness tested by perspirometer using AATCC 15– 2007 test method; and light fastness assessment in Mercury Bulb Tungsten Filament (MBTF) light fastness tester using AATCC Test Method 16–2004.
Findings
The findings of the study show that waste teak leaves can be used as an effective dye for natural as well as synthetic fabrics giving a wide range of colours on wool, silk and nylon. The maximum relative colour strength of the extracted dye on unmordanted dyed samples was found to be at pH 5 on wool and silk and at pH 7 on nylon. A range of shades was obtained with the use of different mordants. The extracted dye showed moderate to good fastness properties in terms of light, wash, rub and perspiration on wool and silk and excellent on nylon. Fastness properties were found to improve with the application of mordants both as pre and post method. Various combinations of mordants and dye result in obtaining pleasing and harmonious colours which were used aesthetically for printing.
Research limitations/implications
Due to time constrains, extraction in an organic medium could not be done, which could be a further scope for study.
Practical implications
Dyeing using teak leaves is a step towards sustainability and effective waste utilization with promising potential for application on natural as well as synthetic fabrics. Good colour with added properties will provide excellent solutions for eco-friendly methods of dyeing.
Social implications
This paper demonstrates the new possibilities offered by innovative uses of by-products of the timber industry and open good prospects for alternatives to synthetic colourants and new markets for the textile industry. It offers a new tool for the development of slow fashion.
Originality/value
It is a common practice to prune the tree branches to improve wood quality; thus, leaves are easily available as by product from pruning and also from wood harvesting. In the present study, waste teak leaves (Tectona grandis L.) were used for the extraction of dye.

Abstract
Purpose
Transgender individuals are more susceptible to psychological distress and mental health issues. The purpose of this study is to determine the prevalence and associated factors of depression, anxiety and stress among individuals from the transgender community.
Design/methodology/approach
This cross-sectional study was conducted from March to December 2022 among the transgender community in Karachi and Hyderabad. A standardized, self-administered DASS-42 questionnaire was used, and a non-probability convenient sampling technique was used. The frequency and percentages of variables were calculated. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was used to evaluate the internal consistency of the items within the subscale. The impact of socio-demographic factors on depression, anxiety and stress levels was assessed using multivariate ordinal logistic regression.
Findings
Out of total 352 transgender individuals, the majority of them were experiencing extremely severe depression with 187 (53.1) affected. Additionally, 267 (75.9) individuals were dealing with extremely severe anxiety and 167 (47.4) facing severe stress. The mean depression score was 26.3 ± 8.6, with stress following closely at 26.2 ± 7.9 and anxiety at 23.5 ± 8.3. The scale had excellent internal consistency, as shown by a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.93. Male sex had a 3.48 (95% C.I: 1.34–9.05) fold higher likelihood of experiencing anxiety compared to females.
Research limitations/implications
One of the limitations of this study is the use of a non-probability convenient sampling technique and the collection of data exclusively from two cities of Pakistan (Karachi and Hyderabad).
Practical implications
The study identified specific mental health challenges faced by transgender individuals in Sindh, enabling mental health professionals and policymakers to develop targeted interventions and counseling services. This includes advocating for mental health programs and anti-discrimination laws that address the unique stressors experienced by transgender individuals. Community awareness and support programs aimed at educating the public, reducing stigma and fostering acceptance of transgender individuals should be implemented to achieve better outcomes.
Social implications
he research can help raise awareness about the challenges faced by transgender individuals, fostering greater empathy and understanding among the general public. This may contribute to reducing societal stigma, prejudice and discrimination against the transgender community. The study can encourage efforts to create a more inclusive society where transgender individuals feel valued and accepted in family, educational and workplace settings. Thich research can also serve as a tool for advocacy, empowering transgender individuals to voice their concerns and demand their rights, which could lead to greater self-confidence and a stronger sense of community among transgender people.
Originality/value
This study revealed a significant prevalence of depression, anxiety and stress among transgender individuals. Regular assessment and implementation of appropriate measures should be conducted to promote their mental well-being. By actively engaging with transgender individuals, we can develop more effective strategies to meet their mental health needs and foster social integration and acceptance.
