Abstract
In this paper a method is presented for an efficient solution of the direct problem (find the scattered field for a given thin crack and driving field) in the time domain. This is a fundamental step in any non destructive evaluation problem. Two different approaches, one in the time domain and the other based on Fourier analysis, are used and compared with reference to a configuration for which some experimental results are available. The advantages and drawbacks of the two approaches are briefly discussed.

Abstract
In this paper we present a fast method for the computation of matrix‐by‐vector products arising from the discretization of an integral formulation of the three‐dimensional eddy current problem. The approach is based on the distinction between short and long range interactions. The features of the method will be discussed with reference to some numerical examples, also in view of an extension to the nonlinear case of superconductors.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to present the use of the compensation theorem (CT), well known in the analysis of linear electric networks, to compute sensitivity of the performance functions used in the robust design or tolerance analysis of electromagnetic devices.
Design/methodology/approach
The CT is first illustrated in the case of a simple field analysis problem. Then, using numerical simulations, the effectiveness of compensation approach for assessing impact of the small modification of material properties is shown. The numerical simulations are performed with a finite elements code based on an integral formulation.
Findings
The complexity of additional computations to assess the effect of small variations involved in sensitivity analysis can be reduced.
Research limitations/implications
The method can be applied only to linear systems; in addition, although compensation applies to any variations, the reduction of computational complexity is achieved only for small variations, giving localized effects.
Practical implications
The method proposed in the paper can speed up the computations of sensitivity arrays in the robust design and tolerance analysis of electromagnetic device, when numerical methods are applied.
Originality/value
The use of CT in field computations is not new, but its adoption in the sensitivity computation is new to the best knowledge of authors.

Abstract
Issues related to disability and childhood are frequently examined across the social sciences and humanities. Many researchers conduct studies with disabled children as the focus of study, as research participants and/or as research drivers. Disabled children represent two categories of identified vulnerability, thus, requiring stringent ethical boundaries in terms of recruitment, consent, research methods, analysis, disclosure and knowledge mobilisation. Although many safeguards apply to research with all children, the focus on disability and disabled childhoods initiates further ethical scrutiny. In this chapter, the authors examine a number of ethical dilemmas that have emerged when conducting research with, and in relation to, disabled children. In particular, the authors will examine the roles of disabled children and youth in advancing research on policy and practice within education and care sectors. The authors query the possibilities and limitations that emerge when employing institutional ethnographic, participatory action and phenomenological research. The chapter unpacks some of the tricky tensions around asking children to speak about disability and share their experiences of disablement when disability is so frequently stigmatised. The authors examine the impacts of predetermined categories of impairment within quantitative research. Across methodologies, data collection based on assumptions of impairment can skew analyses towards a medicalised framework of disability, leaving little room for socio-cultural perspectives on disablement, including how these approaches trigger ethical issues around notions of representation and agency in research with disabled children.

Abstract
The paper presents an efficient modeling technique for the fluxset magnetic field sensor. Using separate numerical solutions for the electric and magnetic fields, an equivalent SPICE circuit is extracted in the postprocessing phase. The main contribution of the paper is the technique used to model the distributed capacitive effects in insulation between coils, by concentrating them in an “Extended II scheme”, an infinite circuit which is optimally reduced to a finite one. The results are in qualitative agreement with the experimental ones.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate masculinity in Chinese social media marketing for global luxury fashion brands through two studies.
Design/methodology/approach
Study 1 compares physical characteristics of males in visually oriented US (Instagram) and Chinese (Weibo) social media posts promoting global luxury fashion magazine brands (e.g. Vogue, Cosmopolitan, GQ and Esquire). Study 2 examines the prevalence of and Chinese consumers’ responses (reposts, comments and likes) to different masculinities depicted in luxury fashion brand-sponsored Weibo posts.
Findings
Male portrayals for Chinese audiences feature more characteristics associated with emerging East Asian hybrid masculinities – “Little Fresh Meat” (LFM) and “Old Grilled Meat” (OGM) – than associated with global or regional hegemonic masculinity (i.e. the scholarly Wén and action-oriented Wu). Wén remains common in social media posts for luxury fashion goods, but LFM and OGM engender more consumer responses.
Practical implications
Chinese luxury fashion marketing depicts masculinity more similarly to other East Asian marketing than to Western marketing. Some luxury fashion brands are struggling for acceptance among Chinese youth. Luxury fashion marketers should incorporate hybrid rather than hegemonic masculinities to prompt more favorable responses among Chinese consumers, especially younger female target markets.
Originality/value
Growing female occupational and consumer power and shifting male employment from blue-collar to white-collar jobs have influenced media portrayals of masculinity. Social media marketing for luxury fashion brands demonstrates the prevalence and appeal of hybrid masculinities in China.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to present a numerical approach for the computation of 3D magnetic fields in rotating electrical machines. The technique is suitable for the computation of flux densities and forces in the end windings of large synchronous turbo generators (TG).
Design/methodology/approach
The magnetostatic FEM model of the generator end windings is carried out for different displacements of the rotor axis to the stator magnetomotive force (MMF) axis. The method is based on a parallel integral formulation allowing to substantially reduce the computational effort.
Findings
The computational model requires only the discretization of magnetic materials and conductors and is fast enough for carrying out 3D analyses on a time scale fast enough for the needs of the designer. As far as the present application is concerned, the analysis of a synchronous generator in the class of 300‐400 MVA has shown that the most stressed elements of the armature conductors are those closer to the stator ends. The study demonstrates that the maximum stress component on the end windings is axial and is achieved when the MMF is aligned to the direct axis.
Originality/value
The present approach combining an efficient integral formulation, the sparsification of the relevant matrices and the parallel implementation of the related algorithms gives rise to an original computational tool that allows a more accurate description of the machine in comparison to other numerical simulations that can be found in the literature.

Problem 11 of the TEAM workshops for eddy current code comparison is a hollow conducting sphere in a uniform magnetic field. The applied field varies with time as a step function, requiring a fully transient solution. Purpose
The purpose is to bring together all bibliographic references of the published literature on electronic books (e‐books) and related technologies in one source so that it will save time for others in conducting literature searches and reviewing the developments.
Design/methodology/approach
The information included in this bibliography is collected systematically from all the published sources in the world such as journal articles, conference papers, conference proceedings, books, reports and PhD theses on e‐books until the last quarter of 2004. Mainly it covers e‐books, e‐books publishing, the impact of e‐books on different types of users, e‐book publishing techniques and trends, e‐book user interfaces and other technologies related to e‐publications.
Findings
As computer usage continues to grow exponentially, the desire of users to use electronic publications (e‐publications) has also increased tremendously. This has led to the publication of materials in electronic form as e‐publications on both CD‐ROMs and web. The e‐book is one of the several forms of e‐publications and its popularity has been growing steadily for the past decade.
Originality/value
This bibliography will be useful to all researchers conducting research in any areas related to e‐books and e‐book publishing.

Abstract
Coalitions are informal and interdependent groups of actors operating within organizations, yet their effects in organizations are not widely understood. In this paper, we develop a model of coalition formation and functioning inside organizations. By extrapolating the behavioral intentions (i.e., altruistic or antagonistic) and compositional differences (i.e., supplementary or complementary) among these informal group structures, we classify coalitions into four forms (i.e., lobby, cartel, circle, and alliance), theorizing how each coalition form affects work role innovation, resource allocations, and work performance. Our conceptualization helps clarify previous theoretical inconsistencies and establish an agenda for the study of coalitions at work. Furthermore, this paper provides insights into the ways that coalitions support or impede the organization’s objectives.
