Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine the effect of job insecurity and perceived work-social support on career optimism, organizational commitment and turnover intention in the hospitality industry in the post-COVID era.
Design/methodology/approach
Data collection was via an online survey of 428 hotel staff. Structural equation modeling techniques support the research model and hypothesis testing.
Findings
This study reveals that the perception of job insecurity has a strong effect on turnover intention but no significant influence on career optimism and organizational commitment. Perceived work social support plays a vital role in employees’ coping strategies in difficult work circumstances. It has positive effects on career optimism and organizational commitment.
Originality/value
The study is considered timely in verifying how the perception of job insecurity and work social support influence hospitality employees’ career optimism, organizational commitment and turnover intention as we transition to the post-pandemic era. The findings enrich the literature on job insecurity and career management through a crisis.

本研究旨在研究后COVID-19时期工作不稳定(JI)和工作支持(PS)的认识对酒店业职业乐观OP)、组织承诺(OC)与离职意向(TI)的影响。

本研究表明JI的认识对TI的影响具有统计意义, 但对OP和OC并没有显著影响。PS的认识对员工在困难工作环境中的应付策略起着重要作用。PS对员工的OP及OC有着积极的影响。

Este estudio examina el efecto de la inseguridad laboral y el apoyo social percibido en el trabajo sobre el optimismo profesional, compromiso organizativo y la intención de rotación en la industria hotelera en la era post-COVID.
Diseño/metodología/enfoque
La recogida de datos se realizó mediante una encuesta en línea a 428 empleados de hostelería. El modelo de investigación y la comprobación de hipótesis se ha realizado mediante la modelización de ecuaciones estructurales.
Conclusiones
Este estudio revela que la percepción de inseguridad laboral tiene un fuerte efecto en la intención de rotación, pero no influye significativamente en el optimismo profesional y el compromiso organizativo. El apoyo social percibido en el trabajo desempeña un papel vital en las estrategias de afrontamiento de los empleados en circunstancias laborales difíciles. Tiene efectos positivos sobre el optimismo profesional y el compromiso organizativo.
Originalidad/valor
El estudio se considera oportuno para verificar cómo la percepción de la inseguridad laboral y el apoyo social en el trabajo influyen en el optimismo profesional, el compromiso organizativo y la intención de cambio de los empleados de hostelería en la transición a la era pospandémica. Los resultados enriquecen la literatura sobre la inseguridad laboral y la gestión de la carrera profesional en situaciones de crisis.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to examine the association between busy directors on corporate boards and accounting conservatism.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors use a sample of 500 firms listed on the Australian Security Exchange from 2004 to 2019. The busyness of non-executive directors is proxied by three indicators. For accounting conservatism, the authors use both conditional and unconditional accounting conservatism via asymmetric timeliness of earnings, accrual-based loss recognition, cumulative total accruals and book-to-market ratio. The authors cluster the standard errors at the firm level to compensate for potential residuals’ dependency and heteroscedasticity, in addition to analysing the main models using year and industry fixed effects (Petersen, 2009). Separately, the authors look at the impact of female busy directors on firms’ adoption of conservative accounting methods. Both propensity score matching analyses and Heckman (1979) two-stage approach systematically address endogeneity issues.
Findings
The presence of busy directors on boards leads to greater unconditional conservatism and less conditional conservatism. The relationships between busy female directors with both conditional and unconditional conservatism remain consistent with the main findings.
Practical implications
This paper provides useful insights for shareholders, regulators and accounting standards setters to better evaluate busy directors’ effectiveness in monitoring firms’ financial reporting quality. Directors and the companies themselves can refer to the authors’ findings to decide the best structure for their boards and committees, considering their specific monitoring requirements. Given that no mandatory restriction has been legislated, improved policies or new ones will ensure that busy directors can effectively fulfil their duties.
Originality/value
This research contributes to the broader research theme by examining the influence of directors’ quality on financial reporting conservatism. It also contributes to the ongoing debate in the corporate finance literature regarding the experience and busyness hypotheses of directors with multiple directorships. Additionally, this research adds value to gender diversity research by finding evidence that female busy directors follow the same pattern of reporting conservatism as male busy directors.

Purpose
This study aimed to optimize the dyeing scheduling process with uncertain job completion time to reduce resource consumption and wastewater generation, and while reconciling the conflicting objectives of minimizing the makespan and the need to limit the production on specific machines to minimize rework.
Design/methodology/approach
We employed a UNISON framework that integrates fuzzy decision tree (FDT) to optimize dyeing machine scheduling by minimizing the makespan and water consumption, in which the critical attributes such as machine capacity and processing time can be incorporated into the scheduling model for smart production.
Findings
An empirical study of a high-tech textile company has shown the validity and effectiveness of the proposed approach in reducing the makespan and water consumption by over 8% while high product quality and efficiency being maintained.
Originality/value
High-tech textile industry is facing the challenges in reducing the environmental impact of the dyeing process while maintaining product quality and efficiency for smart production. Conventional scheduling approaches have not addressed the relationship between machine groups and reworking, resulting in difficulty in controlling the makespan and water consumption and increasing costs and environmental issues. The proposed approach has addressed uncertain job completion via integrating FDT into the scheduling process to effectively reduce makespan and wastewater. The results have shown practical viability of the developed solution in real settings.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between public spending, budget imbalance and underground economy. In addition, this paper investigates how budget imbalance moderates the public spending–underground nexus.
Design/methodology/approach
By utilizing a data set spanning from 1995 to 2017 of 35 OECD countries, the study has employed Dynamic Common Correlated Effects (DCCE) approach. The study is also extended to consider the marginal effects of public spending on the underground economy at different degrees of budget imbalance.
Findings
The results indicate that an increase in public spending and budget imbalance contributes to the expansion of underground economy. Interestingly, the effects of public spending on the underground economy will enhance and intensify with a higher budget imbalance level. The results are robust to various specifications and their broader implications are discussed.
Practical implications
Governments should carefully implement a fiscal policy with a clear understanding that increasing public spending leads to the expansion of informality. Besides, policymakers should enforce supportive policies to boost economic growth, cooperation and cross-border trade to control the size of the underground economy.
Originality/value
This study stresses the role of public spending, budget imbalance on the underground economy in OECD nations. To the best of the author's knowledge, this study pioneers to explore the moderating effect of budget imbalance in the public spending–undergrround nexus.

Purpose
Citizen engagement (CE) in public policy is increasingly considered to be an important feature of governance worldwide. The aim of this study is to explore the impact of e-government usage (EGU) on citizens’ engagement. In addition, the study investigates the mediating effect of government reputation (GR) and the moderating role of digital divide (DD) in EGU and citizens' engagement relationship.
Design/methodology/approach
Data were collected from 938 respondents in Vietnam with a random method. This study used the partial least squares – structural equation modeling method to examine hypotheses.
Findings
The results show that e-government and GR are critical determinants of CE. Furthermore, GR plays a mediating role in the relationship between e-government and CE. The results also show how DD moderates this nexus.
Practical implications
The findings of this study provide valuable evidence and implications. Public officials must improve the GR and administrative capacity as the determination for the CE. Moreover, the government should continually carry out policies to reduce the DD.
Originality/value
By investigating the mediating and moderating effects of GR and DD, this study has significantly contributed to advancing the body knowledge of e-government.

Purpose
The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between government spending, public debt and the informal economy. In addition, this paper investigates the moderating role of public debt in government spending and the informal economy nexus.
Design/methodology/approach
By utilizing a data set spanning from 2000 to 2017 of 32 Asian economies, the study has employed the dynamic ordinary least squares (DOLS) and fully modified ordinary least squares (FMOLS). The study is also extended to consider the marginal effects of government spending on the informal economy at different degrees of public debt.
Findings
The results indicate that an increase in government spending and public debt leads to an expansion of the informal economy in the region. Interestingly, the positive effect of government spending on the informal economy will increase with a rise in public debt.
Originality/value
This study stresses the role of government spending and public debt on the informal economy in Asian nations. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this study pioneers to explore the moderating effect of public debt in the public spending-informal economy nexus.

Purpose
This study aims to explore how ethical leadership and innovative climate impact project success through employees innovative behavior. In addition, based on the conservation of resources theory, this study also examines whether time pressure moderates the innovative work behavior and project success nexus.
Design/methodology/approach
Data were collected from 403 employees working in Vietnam's information technology (IT) companies. The partial least squares structural equation modeling was used to investigate the impact of ethical leadership and innovative climate on project success, the mediating effect of innovative behavior and the moderating role of time pressure.
Findings
Empirical findings indicate that ethical leadership and innovative climate positively impact on project success. Moreover, employees' innovative behavior has a complementary effect on these relationships. In addition, time pressure moderates the nexus between innovative work behavior and project success.
Practical implications
The findings suggest that IT companies can promote innovative work behavior among employees by building ethical leadership and enhancing an innovative climate. Moreover, when designing and implementing a project, project managers should take care to allow enough time for innovative behavior within the team.
Originality/value
This inquiry is probably the first attempt to explore the mechanism linking ethical leadership and innovative climate to project success, with the mediating role of employees' innovative behavior. Additionally, time pressure is an increasingly relevant factor in contemporary business, but so far little explored in research. This study extends the current knowledge by considering the moderating role of time pressure in the innovative behavior and project success nexus.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to develop the new method of estimation of the short‐term largest Lyapunov exponent of electroencephalogram (EEG) waveforms for the detection and prediction of the epileptic seizure.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper proposed the modifications concerned with the way of selection of the segments of EEG waveforms taking part in estimation of Lyapunov exponent, as well as determination of the distances between two time series. The proposed method is based on Kolmogorov‐Smirnov test of similarity of two vectors. Through the application of this test more accurate and less parameterized approach to the estimation of the short‐term largest Lyapunov exponent of EEG waveforms has been obtained.
Findings
The results of performed experiments have shown that in most cases our modified method has outperformed the classical procedure, leading to more stable results, closer to the neurologist indications. The analysis of the data has proved that the change of the largest Lyapunov exponent provides a lot of information regarding the epileptic seizure. The minimum value of Lyapunov exponent indicates fairly well the seizure moment. The Tindex applied for few different electrode sites can provide good advanced prediction of the incoming epileptic seizure.
Practical implications
After additional experiments this method may find practical application for supporting the medical diagnosis of the epilepsy.
Originality/value
The proposed modification of the estimation of the short‐term largest Lyapunov exponent of the EEG waveforms eliminates some arbitrarily chosen parameters tuned by the user and leads to more accurate estimate. Such estimation results are better suited for the characterization of the epileptic activity.

Abstract
Purpose
This study offers an empirical framework for how hotel employees CSR perceptions affect their job satisfaction by incorporating the parallel mediating roles of organizational identification and psychological contract fulfillment. In addition, it examines the moderator effects of employees' CSR-induced attributions on the constructed mediated model, providing a powerful lens through which to evaluate when and how employees' CSR perceptions influence organizational identification and psychological contract fulfillment.
Design/methodology/approach
The study use PLS-SEM techniques to analyze a sample of 520 employees from 49 luxury hotels with 4–5 stars in Khanh Hoa province, Vietnam.
Findings
The results show that CSR positively influences job satisfaction through the mediating role of psychological contract fulfillment and organizational identification. Besides, attachment styles also play moderator role in the relationship between CSR and psychological contract fulfillment/organizational identification.
Practical implications
The discoveries elucidated within this research endeavor proffer actionable discernments to be earnestly contemplated by professionals entrenched in the hotel industry, earnestly aspiring to ameliorate the contentment of their workforce and, concomitantly, augment the overarching efficacy of their organizational operations.
Originality/value
This study provides human resource departments with insights and suggestions for maximizing the efficacy of CSR implementation in the hotel industry.

Abstract
Purpose
COVID-19 hits every country’s health-care system and economy. There is a trend toward using automation technology in response to the COVID-19 crisis not only in developed countries but also in those with lower levels of technology development. However, current studies mainly focus on the world level, and only a few ones report deployments at the country level. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the use of automation solutions in Vietnam with locally available materials mainly in the first wave from January to July 2020.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors collected COVID-related automation solutions during the first wave of COVID-19 in Vietnam from January to July 2020 through a search process. The analysis and insights of a panel consisting of various disciplines (i.e. academia, health care, government, entrepreneur and media) aim at providing a clear picture of how and to what extent these solutions have been deployed.
Findings
The authors found seven groups of solutions from low to high research and development (R&D) levels deployed across the country with various funding sources. Low R&D solutions were widely spread owing to simplicity and affordability. High R&D solutions were mainly deployed in big cities. Most of the solutions were deployed during the first phases when international supply chains were limited with a significant contribution of the media. Higher R&D solutions have opportunities to be deployed in the reopening phase. However, challenges can be listed as limited interdisciplinary research teams, market demand, the local supporting industry, end-user validation and social-ethical issues.
Originality/value
To the authors’ best knowledge, this is the first study analyzing the use of automation technology in response to COVID-19 in Vietnam and also in a country in Southeast Asia. Lessons learned from these current deployments are useful for future emerging infectious diseases. The reality of Vietnam’s automation solutions in response to COVID-19 might be a reference for other developing countries with similar social-economic circumstances and contributes to the global picture of how different countries adopt technology to combat COVID-19.
