Abstract
The benefits of bar‐coding are now rapidly moving from the retail sphere into the warehousing and distribution environment. In Europe there will be a symbol called DUS (Distribution Unit Symbol), basically developed for automatic reading in automated distribution and warehousing systems. With this symbol on a case it will be possible automatically to identify, sort, store and pick the article in a warehousing system. This is an edited version of a paper presented by Per‐Olov Sparen at a conference sponsored by Rolatrue Ltd earlier this year.
