Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this bibliometric and systematic literature review is to survey and evaluate key study’s in tacit knowledge (TK). Through analysing and synthesizing based on the antecedents, decisions, outcomes-theories, context and methods (ADO-TCM) framework, this paper highlights research gaps and avenues for future research. It is important to recognize the antecedents, results and theories in the available literature as it offers enough evidence for encouraging the significance of TK.

Design/methodology/approach

This research paper follows a bibliometric analysis and systematic approach in identifying, analyzing and synthesizing pertinent literature in TK. A total of 59 research studies were carefully and systematically reviewed with the help of NVivo12 and excel software to code and analyse.

Findings

With the help of bibliometric analysis and framework-based systematic review, this research paper offers a retrospective view of the TCM framework in the amalgamation with ADO framework, bibliometric analysis and important themes of TK research.

Originality/value

This paper is different from existing reviews as the authors have to combine bibliometric analysis and framework-based systematic review approach to provide a more robust encapsulation of TK research. To the best of the knowledge, the present research is one of the first systematic reviews based on a framework relating to TK.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to explore the potential benefits and challenges of using large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT to edit Wikipedia.

Design/methodology/approach

The first portion of this paper provides background about Wikipedia and LLMs, explicating briefly how each works. The paper's second section then explores both the ways that LLMs can be used to make Wikipedia a stronger site and the challenges that these technologies pose to Wikipedia editors. The paper's final section explores the implications for information professionals.

Findings

This paper argues that LLMs can be used to proofread Wikipedia articles, outline potential articles and generate usable Wikitext. The pitfalls include the technology's potential to generate text that is plagiarized or violates copyright, its tendency to produce “original research” and its tendency to generate incorrect or biased information.

Originality/value

While there has been limited discussion among Wikipedia editors about the use of LLMs when editing the site, hardly any scholarship has been given to how these models can impact Wikipedia's development and quality. This paper thus aims to fill this gap in knowledge by examining both the potential benefits and pitfalls of using LLMs on Wikipedia.

Abstract

Purpose

This study explored the information practices of cosplayers, as well as the social norms, social types and information infrastructure of an online cosplay Facebook group, the Rey Cosplay Community (RCC).

Design/methodology/approach

To better understand individual behavior, the authors made use of ethnographic methods and semi-structured interviews. Observation of the RCC was combined with information gleaned from select participant interviews.

Findings

The results suggest that the RCC can be conceived of as an information community where fans obtain and share information about cosplay costume making. Sufficient and well-organized information and positive community culture greatly help community members make their costumes.

Originality/value

This works serves as a bridge between fan studies and information science research in its exploration of online communities, shared information practices and creating non-toxic virtual environments. It also lends support to the idea that positivity, respect for community rules and a tight-knit connection between members play essential roles in building a non-toxic fan and information community.

Abstract

Purpose

Organizations often utilize external sources to acquire knowledge, and one such area of interest has been the transfer of knowledge between universities and industry (U-I). This topic has gained significant attention in recent years because U-I cooperation brings companies innovation to remain in the market and be competitive. This paper aims to develop and deepens the topic, providing a Bibliometric-Systematic Literature Review (B-SLR) on knowledge transfer (KT), cooperation and U-I, interactions, links and interdependencies of new research streams. This research pretends to summarize the state of the art of the past literature using a rigorous methodological approach.

Design/methodology/approach

A bibliometric analysis was performed using the Web of Science database, specifically employing Bibliographic Coupling analysis.

Findings

The literature systematization enabled the identification of four distinct clusters: (1) Drivers and Motivational Factors, (2) Specificities in the Selection of Knowledge Transfer Channels, (3) Strategic Challenges and (4) Mechanisms and Contexts.

Originality/value

The analysis highlights significant trends and gaps in current research, providing a comprehensive understanding of the field. Based on the literature analyzed, it was possible to outline lines for future investigation, offering valuable insights for academia and industry practitioners to enhance U-I knowledge transfer.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to examine the comprehensive relationship among dimensions of social capital (SC) and web 2.0 on tacit knowledge sharing (TKS). This research studies innovative work behavior (IWB) as an outcome of TKS. The study also aims to examine the moderating impact of absorptive capacity (AC).

Design/methodology/approach

The empirical research collected data from 497 information technology (IT) professionals working in IT organizations. Data were evaluated and presented in tables using the Smart PLS 3.3.3 software.

Findings

The results indicated that SC and web 2.0 significantly affected TKS. The finding also discusses the significant impact of TKS in influencing IWB among IT professionals. The results indicated that AC moderates the relationship between TKS and IWB.

Originality/value

The present paper contributes significantly toward an investigation of TKS, SC, web2.0, AC and IWB as an outcome. The authors also validate and analyze the significant SC higher-order incorporated in all dimensions of SC, thus, forming the methodological part.

Abstract

Purpose

The ease and convenience of online shopping are shifting the customers to e-tailers. This has prompted offline retailers to re-examine behavioural patterns along with a reconfiguration for a responsive retail model. The paper investigates the influence of responsiveness on customer satisfaction, cross-buying behaviour, revisit intention and referral behaviour.

Design/methodology/approach

Data were collected via a survey answered by 793 fashion customers from India, and for data analysis, partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was employed. Path analysis was used to determine the interrelationships amongst the constructs used in the study.

Findings

The standardized path coefficients depict competitive responsiveness as the highest contributor of retailers' responsiveness followed by service responsiveness, employee responsiveness and customer responsiveness. The findings suggest that customer satisfaction acts as the biggest contributor to referral behaviour followed by cross-buying behaviour and revisit intentions.

Originality/value

This study has made a substantial contribution to fashion apparel retailing. The findings revealed that responsive retailing influences the customers' post-purchase behaviour as they engage in more cross-buying, revisiting and referral behaviour. The retailers are encouraged to carefully monitor their preparedness to deliver a combination of sensory, emotional, cognitive and social experience to their customers.

Abstract

Purpose

With new hybrid working models in place post COVID-19, it is requisite that knowledge workers (KWs) stay agile. Knowledge-oriented leadership (KOL) can help employees with essential knowledge acquisition (KA) facilitating the journey toward hybrid work agility (HWA). This study, thus, aims to explore the impact of KOL and KA on HWA and reveal whether this effect stems uniformly from a single homogenous population or if there is unobserved heterogeneity leading to identifiable segments of agile KWs.

Design/methodology/approach

Data was collected through stratified sampling from 416 employees from 20 information technology enabled services companies involved in knowledge-intensive tasks. Partial least squares (PLS) structural equation modeling approach, using SMART PLS 4.0, has been applied to examine the effect of KOL and KA on HWA. Finite mixture PLS, PLS prediction-oriented segmentation and multigroup analysis have been used to identify segments, test segment-specific path models and analyze the significance of the differences in the path coefficients for unobserved heterogeneity. Predictive relevance of the model has been determined using PLS Predict.

Findings

Results indicate that KOL contributes to employees’ KA and HWA. A significant positive relationship is also reported between KA and HWA. The model has medium predictive relevance. A two-segment solution has been delineated, wherein independent agile KWs (who value autonomy and personal agency over leadership for KA) and dependent agile KWs (who depend on leaders for relational and structural support for KA) have been identified. Thus, KOL and KA play a differential role in determining HWA.

Research limitations/implications

The authors’ major contribution to the knowledge body constitutes the determination of antecedents of HWA and a typology of agile KWs. Future researchers may conduct segment-wise qualitative analysis to delineate other variables that contribute to HWA.

Practical implications

Technological advances necessitate that knowledge-intensive industries foster agility in employees for strategic agility of the organization. For effecting agile adaption of an organization to the knowledge economy conditions, it is pertinent that the full potential of this human resource be used. By profiling HWA of KWs on the basis of dimensions of KOL and the level of their KA, organizations will be able to help employees adapt better to rapidly changing work conditions.

Originality/value

HWA is a novel concept and very germane in a hybrid working environment. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study to examine the effects of the dimensions of KOL and KA in relation to HWA, along with an empirical examination of unobserved heterogeneity in the aforementioned relationship.

Crisis management has developed as an established field of scholarly research in tourism over the last three decades. More recently, the concept of resilience has emerged within this body of literature as a longer-term planning process. However, important knowledge gaps remain, especially with regards to the strategic responses of small tourism businesses in destinations prone to repeated crises.

Design/methodology/approach

This chapter reviews the literature related to crisis management and resilience in tourism.

Findings

Key knowledge gaps are outlined and discussed in the context of tourism research related to crisis management and resilience, with a specific emphasis on research related to small tourism businesses.

Originality

Although crisis management and resilience are fields of research that continue to generate a considerable amount of scholarly enquiry in tourism, particularly with studies related to the impacts of terrorism on tourism destinations and, more recently, the short- and longer-term impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on tourism, there is very little research related to the role of small tourism businesses in this context, in spite of their key role in the tourism system of destinations around the world.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to explore how two Norwegian national online newspapers, Dagbladet and Aftenposten, have framed halal food in the past 6 years (2008-2014), a period conflating with a rise in Muslim demographics in Norway.

Design/methodology/approach

A mixed-methods approach is used. Employing among others a Hallidayan transitivity analysis and other approaches from critical discourse analysis (CDA), clausal semantic structures, collocations and nominalizations were explored with a view toward fleshing out ideological significance. Particular attention was given to the neologism – “covert-Islamization” – popularized by the populist right-wing Progress Party.

Findings

The findings reveal that Dagbladet refracts halal food through a discourse of crime and other dubious frames tapping into topoi of Islamophobia. Halal is, in this manner, transformed into a synecdoche for deviance. This is contrasted with Aftenposten’s more “halal-friendly” gaze which inter alia is attributed to greater access for Muslim contributors (over 40 per cent), with nearly all authorship penned in the aftermath of the Breivik massacre of July 22, 2011.

Research limitations/implications

As a comparative research that explores two newspapers – albeit with substantial national circulation – there are obvious limitations. Future research could explore the contents of Verdens Gang, the biggest newspaper in Norway, and perhaps incorporate iconic semiotic content.

Social implications

The prevalent media discourse on halal in Norway casts a shadow over a fundamental aspect of the identity construction of Norwegians who adhere to Islam, thus highlighting issues of belonging and citizenry in the “new” Norway. National discourses of identity and belonging impact upon the Muslim consumer’s perception of self and ethnicity, and how these perceptions are negotiated in the interstices of a skewed media coverage of halal certainly serves to undermine this self-perception.

Originality/value

Several recent studies have broached the subject of the manifold representations of Muslims and Islam in the media using a CDA, but there is a dearth in studies with a specific focus on halal food. This study contributes to the lacuna in the literature in an area of growing importance, not just as a socio-political and religious phenomenon, but a lucrative commercial project in a Scandinavian context.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to identify and explain the role of motivation in facilitating knowledge sharing (KS). This study explains the connection between “motivation” and “knowledge sharing” or KS. Research finding offers significant theoretical and practical suggestions. Theoretically, the study provides clarity on various motivation theories and important constructs in KS.

Design/methodology/approach

This research reviews the literature on knowledge management in detail along with other published works. A search was conducted using online databases on the Web of Science (WoS) and Google Scholar. An analysis was done with the help of qualitative software NVivo 12 to critically analyze literature.

Findings

This theoretical review offers a retrospective view of theories, context, methods, antecedents or enablers to understand the motivation theories used in knowledge sharing research and provides a guideline for upcoming researches to contemplate and examine numerous motivation theories and also choose the most significant motivation theory and their construct in the researches on KS.

Originality/value

This theoretical review contributes toward knowledge sharing and motivation literature. There are no reviews on knowledge sharing relating to contemporary motivational theories to the best of our knowledge.
