Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to describe the renovation of one of Havana's most architecturally significant areas – namely, the Plaza Vieja or Old Town Square, whose restoration was the focal point of an international campaign launched by UNESCO in 1982.
Design/methodology/approach
It will recount the details of the urban and social rehabilitation project that has taken place in the Old Town Square and the general way in which Havana's historic center has developed over the past 25 years.
Findings
The research will provide facts about those involved in the process, the management model which was implemented and valuable information regarding the neighborhood's housing and demographic evolution.
Originality/value
This paper has value to all those involved in the management process of the city of Havana, as well as, to other facilities managers dealing with similar processes worldwide.
