Abstract
Proposals are presented for specifying a computer system for storing and searching library records in a single library or a group of associated libraries. The system provides for onâline searching at each library and offâline production of accessions lists, abstracts bulletins and bibliographies, as well as SDI service. The use of skilled effort is shifted from the inâput operation to the searching stage by the use of selected natural language keys, but searching for known items is made easier than in more traditional methods by extending the use of postâcoordination to catalogue data.

Abstract
The possibility of using the BOSS system with a controlled language thesaurus is discussed and the ways in which the system could be used for producing journal listings and for storing, indexing and retrieving diagrams and configurations are described.

Abstract
In an earlier article (The Electronic Library, April, 1985) a description is given of a method of making a KWOC index from article or document titles with a computer program which enables an indexer to combine words from the title in any way required to form indexing terms. Two versions of the program are described, an interactive one and one which compiles a KWOC index from a file of prepared data. The method has the drawback common to all KWOC indexes that the words in the title have to be used in the form in which they occur and this leads to certain shortcomings in the index such as a multiplicity of forms for what is the same term and the use of comprehensible but unconventional forms of a term. This article discusses these shortcomings and then describes the modifications made to the interactive version of the program which allow an indexer to edit the terms chosen as the index is being compiled so that consistency in the form of the terms is achieved and accepted conventions are observed. Modifications which effect the same improvements have been made to the other version of the program and these are also described. Examples of the use of both these new versions of the program are included.

Abstract
This article describes a method of making a KWOC index from article or document titles by the use of a computer program which allows the indexer to combine words in the title in any way required and also allows the use of words or phrases not in the title. The method can be used to make a KWOC index of titles of articles stored in a database. Examples of the use of the program are included.

Abstract
Onâline update combines a bibliography of recent onâline articles with a search example from a data base producer showing techniques especially useful in searching its data base. In this issue, we have asked INSPEC to provide a bibliography of literature concerning onâline retrieval. Only articles which have been added to their file since June 1976 are included. Here is their report.

Abstract
KWOC programs from the âCOINâ suit (the COBOL indexing package produced by the National Computing Centre) have been adapted to produce a journal listing and to print selective listings of journals having specified characteristics. The production of journal checkâin record sheets by line printer is also described.

Abstract
At a meeting of the Council of the Royal Borough of Kensington on February 29th, ALDERMAN A. G. McARTHUR, Chairman of the Public Health Committee of the Council, brought up a Report as followsâ âWe have received replies from nineteen City and Borough Councils to the circular letter addressed to them by this Council protesting against the suggestion made by the Board of Agriculture and Fisheries that, before proceedings under the Sale of Food and Drugs Acts are instituted on analytical evidence in respect of milk there should be a preliminary investigation by an officer of the Local Authority, or that the milk producer should be given an opportunity of offering an explanation.
The popular misconception which exists respecting the duties of a Public Analyst is well illustrated by the remarks attributed recently to a borough coroner.

Abstract
Among the routine tasks carried out in a special library such as the one at Building Research Station (BRS), there are a number which depend on the application of special or expert knowledge by the professional staff, using heuristic judgements which, at first sight, appear difficult to codify as precise rules. An attempt has been made to incorporate the expertise required for one of these tasks into a program functioning as a simple type of âexpert assistantâ which might be the basis of an expert system.

Abstract
Purpose
Intellectual capital disclosure (ICD) in universities is gaining increasing attention, especially through the adoption of innovative technologies. Online media, as a relevant source of Big Data, is shifting ICD. The purpose of this paper is to explore how Big Data generated through online media, such as websites and platforms like Facebook, can be used as rich sources of data and viable disclosure channels for ICD in a university.
Design/methodology/approach
This is an exploratory case study, following the methodology in Yin (2014), that examines how online media data contributes to closing the ICD gap. The IC disclosed through different online media channels by a private university in Albania is analysed using Secundo et al.âs (2016) collective intelligence framework. The online data sources include the universityâs website, Facebook page, periodic reports and statements outlining future goals.
Findings
What the authors discover in this research is that IC is an important part of how universities operate, and IC is communicated through social media, although unintentionally. However, this only serves to highlight the importance of IC, and if researchers want to discover IC and understand how it works in an organisation, they need to include social media and a prime resource for developing that understanding.
Research limitations/implications
Most importantly, the findings add to a growing consensus that ICD researchers, and researchers in other management and accounting disciplines, who traditionally rely on annual corporate social responsibility and other periodic reports, they need to change their medium of analysis because these reports no longer can be relied on to understand IC and its impact on an organisation.
Originality/value
Online media tools and the advent of Big Data have created new opportunities for universities to disclose their IC information to stakeholders in a timely manner and to gain relevant insights into their impact on the society. The originality of the paper resides in the contribution of Big Data to the ICD research stream.
