Abstract
Purpose
To explore the potential of conversations with an authentic audience through blogging for enriching in young writers the understanding of the communicative function of writing, specifically language and vocabulary use.
Design/methodology/approach
We situate our work in the language acquisition model of language learning, in which learners develop linguistic competence in the process of speaking and using language (Krashen, 1988; Tomasello, 2005). We also believe that language learning benefits from formal instruction (Krashen, 1988). As such, in our work, we likened engaging in blogging to learning a language (here, more broadly conceived as learning to write) through both natural communication (acquisition) and prescription (instruction), and we looked at these forms of learning in our study.
We were interested in the communicative function of language learning (Halliday, 1973; 1975; Penrod, 2005) among young blog writers, because we see language learning as socially constructed through interaction with other speakers of a language (Tomasello, 2005; Vygotsky, 1978).
Findings
The readers and commenters in this study supported young writers in their language study by modeling good writing and effective language use in their communication with these writers. Young writers also benefited from direct instruction through interactions with adults beyond classroom teachers, in our case some of the readers and commenters.
Practical implications
Blogging can extend conversations to audiences far beyond the classroom and make writing a more authentic endeavor for young writers. Teachers should take advantage of such a powerful tool in their writing classrooms to support their students’ language study and vocabulary development.

Abstract
A paint which is completely free from evaporating solvents while still retaining the corrosion resistance characteristics of solvent‐containing epoxy resin coatings possesses important advantages. This survey considers the contributions made by epoxy resins and associated materials.
Because of their inherent resistance to many corrosives, the use of properly selected plastics in protective coatings would appear to be obvious. However, their extensive use has…
Abstract
Because of their inherent resistance to many corrosives, the use of properly selected plastics in protective coatings would appear to be obvious. However, their extensive use has taken much time to establish. Over the past few years the new group of plastics materials known as epoxy resins has attracted a great deal of attention, particularly in view of their striking successes achieved in applications where corrosion resistance is required.

Abstract
The purpose of this chapter is to introduce and provide an overview of the topic of corporate social responsibility (CSR). The approach is to present an introduction to the importance of the topic and a review of the concept’s evolution and development which includes an exploration of the topic’s meaning and competing and complementary frameworks which are related. Among these related concepts are the following: business ethics, stakeholder management, sustainability, corporate citizenship, creating shared value, conscious capitalism, and purpose-driven business. These concepts are frequently used interchangeably with CSR, and they have more in common than differences. At their core, each embraces value, balance, and accountability. The chapter also explores a number of key research avenues that are quite contemporary. Among these, the following topics are addressed: political CSR; the CSP–CFP relationship and business case for CSR; upstream/downstream CSR; CSR in emerging economies, corporate social activism, and corporate social irresponsibility. In the final analysis, it is argued that the topic of CSR continues to be on an upward and sustainable trajectory in both conceptual development and practice.

Abstract
Of the many new materials offered to industry in the last ten years, epoxy resins are some of the most versatile. They have excellent resistance to atmospheric and chemical attack, stability, and good mechanical and electrical properties. They are, therefore, particularly suitable for use in resisting corrosive conditions.
