Abstract

Purpose

The main theme of this paper is the effect of viscous dissipation Darcy–Forchheimer flow and heat transfer augmentation of a viscoelastic fluid over an incessant moving needle.

Design/methodology/approach

The governing partial differential equations of the current problem are diminished into a set of ordinary differential equations using requisite similarity transformations. Energy equation is extended by using Cattaneo–Christov heat flux model with variable thermal conductivity. By applying boundary layer approximation system of equations is framed.

Findings

Convective condition is also introduced in this analysis. Obtained set of similarity equations are then solved with the help of efficient numerical method four–fifth-order RKF-45.

Originality/value

The outcomes of various pertinent parameters on the velocity, temperature distributions are analysed by using portraits.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to provide that porous media and viscous dissipation are crucial considerations when working with hybrid nanofluids in various applications.Recent years have witnessed significant progress in optimizing these fluids for enhanced heat transfer within porous (Darcy–Forchheimer) structures, offering promising solutions for various industries seeking improved thermalmanagement and energy efficiency.

Design/methodology/approach

The first step is to transform the original partial differential equations into a system of first-order ordinary differential equations (ODEs). The fourth-order Runge–Kutta method is chosen for its accuracy in solving ODEs. The present study investigates the free convective boundary layer flow of hybrid nanofluids over a moving thin inclined needle with the slip flow brought about by inclined Lorentz force and Darcy–Forchheimer porous matrix, viscous dissipation.

Findings

It is found that slip conditions (velocity and Thermal) exist for a range of the natural convection boundary layer flow. In the hybrid nanofluid flow, which consists of Al2O3 and Fe3O4 are nanoparticles, H2OC2H6O2 (50:50) are considered as the base fluid. The consequence of the governing parameter on the momentum and temperature profile distribution is graphically depicted. The range of the variables is 1 ≤ M ≤ 4, 1 ≤ d ≤ 2.5, 1 ≤ δ ≤ 4, 1 ≤ Fr ≤ 7, 1 ≤ Kr ≤ 7 and 0.5≤λ ≤ 3.5. The Nusselt number and skin friction factors are used to calculate the numerical values of various parameters, which are displayed in Table 4. These analyses elucidate that upsurges in the value of the Fr noticeably diminish the momentum and temperature. It is investigated to see if the contemporary results are in outstanding promise with the outcomes reported in earlier works.

Practical implications

The results can be very helpful to improve the energy efficiency of thermal systems.

Social implications

The hybrid nanofluids in heat transfer have the potential to improve the energy efficiency and performance of a wide range of systems.

Originality/value

This study proposes that in the combined effects of hybrid nanofluid properties, the inclined Lorentz force, the Darcy–Forchheimer model for porous media and viscous dissipation on the boundary layer flow of a conducting fluid over a moving thin inclined needle. Assessing the potential practical applications of the hybrid nanofluids in inclined needles, this could involve areas such as biomedical engineering, drug delivery systems or microfluidic devices. In future should explore the benefits and limitations of using hybrid nanofluids in these applications.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to examine the behaviour of retail investors while making an investment decision and how it gets affected by the behavioural biases of the investors using a moderated-mediation framework.

Design/methodology/approach

A mixed method approach has been used to fulfil the objectives of the study. In the first study, a qualitative analysis of the interviews with 15 retail investors was conducted. As part of the quantitative study, a total of 201 responses from Indian retail investors were collected using systematic sampling and analysed using structural equation modelling and Process Macro.

Findings

The results indicate that anchoring bias, availability bias, herding bias, switching cost, sunk cost, regret avoidance and perceived threat have a significant effect on retail investors’ investing intention. The attitude of the investors towards investing decisions mediates the effects of behavioural bias and the status quo on investment intention. The results of the moderated-mediation analysis indicate that mediating effect of attitude varied at the low and high-risk aversion of investors.

Practical implications

The findings of this study will help regulators and retail investors to understand the critical behavioural biases which affect the investors’ investing intention.

Originality/value

The paper contributes to the literature on investors’ behaviour, status quo bias theory (SQB) and behavioural bias. This study uniquely proposes a moderated-mediation framework to understand the effects of biases on retail investors’ investment intention.

Abstract

Purpose

Currently, more renewable energy resources with advanced technology levels are incorporated in the electric power networks. Under this circumstance, the attainment of optimal economic dispatch is very much essential by the power system as the system requires more power generation cost and also has a great demand for electrical energy. Therefore, one of the primary difficulties in the power system is lowering the cost of power generation, which includes both economic and environmental costs. This study/paper aims to introduce a meta-heuristic algorithm, which offers an solution to the combined economic and emission dispatch (CEED).

Design/methodology/approach

A novel algorithm termed Levy-based glowworm swarm optimization (LGSO) is proposed in this work, and it provides an excellent solution to the combined economic and emission dispatch (CEED) difficulties by specifying the generation of the optimal renewable energy systems (RES). Moreover, in hybrid renewable energy systems, the proposed scheme is extended by connecting the wind turbine because the thermal power plant could not control the aforementioned costs. In terms of economic cost, emission cost and transmission loss, the suggested CEED model outperforms other conventional schemes genetic algorithm, Grey wolf optimization, whale optimization algorithm (WOA), dragonfly algorithm (DA) and glowworm swarm optimization (GSO) and demonstrates its efficiency.

Findings

According to the results, the suggested model for Iteration 20 was outperformed GSO, DA and WOA by 23.46%, 97.33% and 93.33%, respectively. For Iteration 40, the proposed LGSO was 60%, 99.73% and 97.06% better than GSO, DA and WOA methods, respectively. The proposed model for Iteration 60 was 71.50% better than GSO, 96.56% better than DA and 95.25% better than WOA. As a result, the proposed LGSO was shown to be superior to other existing techniques with respect to the least cost and loss.

Originality/value

This research introduces the latest optimization algorithm known as LGSO to provide an excellent solution to the CEED difficulties by specifying the generation of the optimal RES. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first work that utilizes LGSO-based optimization for providing an excellent solution to the CEED difficulties by specifying the generation of the optimal RES.

Abstract

Purpose

In a first of its kind, this paper tries to explore the long-run relationship between investors' sentiment and selected industries' returns over the period January 2010 to December 2021.

Design/methodology/approach

The paper uses 23 market and macroeconomic proxies to measure investor sentiment. Principal component analysis has been used to create sentiment sub-indices that represent investor sentiment. The autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model and other sophisticated econometric techniques such as the unit root test, the cumulative sum (CUSUM) stability test, regression, etc. have been used to achieve the objectives of the study.

Findings

The authors find that there is a significant relationship between sentiment sub-indices and industries' returns over the period of study. Market and economic variables, market ratios, advance-decline ratio, high-low index, price-to-book value ratio and liquidity in the economy are some of the significant sub-indices explaining industries' returns.

Research limitations/implications

The study has relevant implications for retail investors, policy-makers and other decision-makers in the Indian stock market. Results are helpful for the investor in improving their decision-making and identifying those sentiment sub-indices and the variables therein that are relevant in explaining the return of a particular industry.

Originality/value

The study contributes to the existing literature by exploring the relationship between sentiment and industries' returns in the Indian stock market and by identifying relevant sentiment sub-indices. Also, the study supports the investors' irrationality, which arises due to a plethora of behavioral biases as enshrined in classical finance.

Abstract

Purpose

With a sample of 22 banks, this study examines the significance of the news contents about the privatization of two public sector banks in India. New information does impact the stock markets. This study provides evidence on how the privatization of public sector banks impacted the returns of the Indian banking sector.

Design/methodology/approach

This study employs the standard event study methodology with the market model for estimating the normal returns.

Findings

The statistical results indicate that while the private sector banks experienced positive average abnormal returns on the event day, the cumulative effect of the announcement is negatively significant for both private and public sector banks. The statistical results also provide evidence of information leakage, with significant results before the announcement date. The shorter event windows analysis exhibits significant positive returns in the 5-days [−2, +2] window for the private sector banks and the entire sample, signifying a positive short-term impact on the private sector banks.

Originality/value

The event study literature captures the impacts of many events. However, to the best of our knowledge, the impacts of the privatization of the Indian public sector banks have never been examined using the event study methodology. Hence, this study anticipates being the first-ever study to fill this gap and extend the available literature in finance. In addition, although we provide Indian evidence, future studies may be oriented to capture cross-country impacts.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to analyze heat and mass transfer of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) non-Newtonian fluids flow past an inclined thermally stratified porous plate using a numerical approach.

Design/methodology/approach

The flow equations are set up with the non-linear free convective term, thermal radiation, nanofluids and Soret–Dufour effects. Thus, the non-linear partial differential equations of the flow analysis were simplified by using similarity transformation to obtain non-linear coupled equations. The set of simplified equations are solved by using the spectral homotopy analysis method (SHAM) and the spectral relaxation method (SRM). SHAM uses the approach of Chebyshev pseudospectral alongside the homotopy analysis. The SRM uses the concept of Gauss-Seidel techniques to the linear system of equations.

Findings

Findings revealed that a large value of the non-linear convective parameters for both temperature and concentration increases the velocity profile. A large value of the Williamson term is detected to elevate the velocity plot, whereas the Casson parameter degenerates the velocity profile. The thermal radiation was found to elevate both velocity and temperature as its value increases. The imposed magnetic field was found to slow down the fluid velocity by originating the Lorentz force.

Originality/value

The novelty of this paper is to explore the heat and mass transfer effects on MHD non-Newtonian fluids flow through an inclined thermally-stratified porous medium. The model is formulated in an inclined plate and embedded in a thermally-stratified porous medium which to the best of the knowledge has not been explored before in literature. Two elegance spectral numerical techniques have been used in solving the modeled equations. Both SRM and SHAM were found to be accurate.

Abstract

Purpose

Grounded in stakeholder theory, this study aims to examine the barriers to blockchain adoption in hospitals in developing countries. It also aimed to explore the interrelationships among these barriers and investigate how the perceptions of clinical and non-clinical professionals in the healthcare industry differ regarding these barriers.

Design/methodology/approach

The study context was hospitals in India and proceeded in three phases. First, barriers affecting blockchain application in healthcare were shortlisted using a systematic literature review. In the second phase, a multi-round Delphi study with clinical and non-clinical healthcare experts was conducted to screen and validate the barriers identified in the first phase. Finally, the barriers were ranked and categorized into causal and effect groups using the Grey-DEMATEL technique in the last phase of the study.

Findings

The findings reveal variance in the viewpoints of clinical and non-clinical professionals regarding influential barriers. Overall, the most significant causal barriers were a shortage of IT skills and a lack of standards for patient data management standards in Indian hospitals. Additionally, the study identified the lack of a well-defined strategy for blockchain infrastructure deployment and limited support from hospital management as effect barriers.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first attempt to use the integrated Delphi-DEMATEL approach to explore blockchain adoption barriers in hospitals from the expert’s point of view.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to present the influence of plastic pyrolysis oil blended with gasoline at 10 per cent with and without ethanol additive at 5 per cent in a three-cylinder petrol engine.

Design/methodology/approach

The engine is running at standard working processes. The result of 10PPO is compared with pure petrol and additive-added blend. The outcomes clears that, the engine performance is reduced by using plastic oil blended with petrol and NOx emission rates are increasing substantially.

Findings

To control the emission rate, ethanol is added, and corresponding performance reveals that brake thermal efficiency is 4.52 per cent increase compared to pure petrol and 7.03 per cent increase compared to without additive blend.

Originality/value

Emissions such as CO and NOx are considerably controlled with additive blend.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between quality of work-life (QWL) and work-life balance (WLB).

Design/methodology/approach

Using a structured survey instrument, this paper gathered data from 445 respondents in cosmopolitan city in southern part of India. First psychometric properties of the instrument were tested, and then hierarchical regression was used as a statistical technique for analyzing the data.

Findings

The hierarchical regression results indicated that QWL is (1) negatively related to job stress, (2) positively related to job satisfaction and (3) positively related to job commitment. The results also indicated that (1) job stress is negatively related to WLB, (2) job satisfaction is positively related to WLB and (3) job commitment is positively related to WLB. The results also show partial mediation of job stress, job satisfaction, and job commitment in the relationship between QWL and WLB.

Research limitations/implications

Since the present research is based on self-report measures, the limitations of social desirability bias and common method bias are inherent. However, sufficient care is taken to minimize these limitations. The research has implications for human resource managers in work organizations.

Practical implications

This study contributes to both practicing managers and the literature on human resource management. The study suggests that employers need to be aware of the importance of quality of work-life and work-life balance in achieving organizational effectiveness.

Social implications

The study is expected to contribute to the welfare of the society in terms of identifying the antecedents of work-life balance.

Originality/value

This study provides new insights about the effects of QWL on WLB through mediating variables. This is a conceptual model developed and tested and first of its kind in India.
