Abstract

ON September 1, 1925, a boat seaplane during an attempted flight from San Francisco to Honolulu was forced to come down in the open Pacific. Nine days later it was found 15 miles from land and towed to port by a submarine, having covered 450 miles in the interim with the aid of a sail improvised from fabric cut from the lower plane. The seaplane was practically undamaged and was later recommissioned and put into service again.
