Abstract
Library users expect to find an increasing array of information resources on the Web, and libraries have been using that medium. However, much of what they supply on the Web is static data such as bibliographies, pathfinders, instructions, and schedules. Providing dynamic data on the Web, especially from a relational database, can be a daunting task because HTML is a markup language that has little processing power. This paper will discuss the steps necessary to provide dynamic Web access to local databases using active server pages (ASP) technology. ASP is easier to use than other methods because it imbeds scripting statements directly into the Web page, rather than relying on separate, complicated programs. Software necessary to make it work resides on the server, and the end‐user does not have to worry about it. Several working examples will illustrate techniques for searching and displaying data from a Microsoft Access database using ASP.

Abstract
Paperback Speller is a fast, smooth‐running, easy‐to‐use package. Although its dictionaries are small compared to those of some other spelling checkers, it has unique features that make it as effective as any I have seen. Especially helpful is its ability to skip over subsequent encounters with suspect words, display possible replacement words, and quickly correct misspelled words. Also useful is the ability to flag double words, look up spellings and undo errors. Some features, such as suffix guessing and erasing letters after punctuation are not all that helpful. At the price, it is a bargain if you want a stand‐alone spelling checker.

Abstract
Turbo Lightning is an effective and easy to use package that monitors what the user types, and beeps whenever it thinks a word has been misspelled. It works best if you have a hard disk and 256K or more Ram memory. Users can draw on pull‐down lists of “sound‐alike words” and a thesaurus to replace incorrect or misspelled words automatically.

Abstract
Considers the main benefit of building indexes for a dBASE database – speed and performance of retrieval – and the fields dBASE can index on. Suggests tips for building up indexes: character field length, fields with upper and lower case, two character field indexing, numeric fields, character and numeric fields, date fields, character and date fields, and date fields in reverse chronological order.
