Abstract
Purpose
Business innovation should enable the achievement of goals across the entire organization. To compete well, business innovations become important and crucial and more so for software industries. With prevalent trends of big data, cloud and cyber security, there are exciting days ahead. Opportunities and innovations are being predicted and by iterations, they can be projected.
Design/methodology/approach
The ways in which businesses innovate and implement new ideas are changing. Historically, innovation has commonly been practiced using a “closed innovation” model, particularly with regard to new technology and research and development. It adopts disruptive technologies like big data, cloud computing, cyber securities, etc., and new models of engagements. It sectors business turnaround in sentiment and upbeat mood.
Findings
This paper has looked at the business innovation in Indian software industries’ success in the global information technology industry from a new perspective. India’s software services industry has helped develop a huge talent pool that can write the most complex software. Sales and distribution is no longer a problem because the internet allows you to serve a global market.
Originality/value
This paper, by adopting an analytical and descriptive research method, aims to explore and understand business innovation in software industries. The two studied cases reflect and help to discern how the firms are developing capabilities and reflect how they have evolved over a period, primarily through business and incremental innovations. The advantage of focusing on software products first is that unlike many other product categories, the upfront investments are much more manageable, and we already have the talent base and skills to get going.

This study aims to explore factors hindering small and medium-sized enterprises' (SMEs) growth in Khomas region in Nambia.
Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to explore factors hindering small and medium-sized enterprises' (SMEs) growth in Khomas region in Nambia.
Methodology/design/approach
Methodology adopted is qualitative approach with a case study research design including in-depth interviews and deep observations.
Findings
Findings indicate that these SMEs experience stealing, security problems and fights from the customers, which hinder business growth. In addition, though they understand the importance of technology in boosting business growth, they are not able to keep the pace with changing technology, which impacts their business development. It was further found that access to finance, appropriate marketing strategies, lack of skilled manpower and poor customer service also hinder their business growth.
Research limitations/implications
The special aspect of case study design is that it defines the delimitation of the research study and may find it necessary to adjust the boundaries that in any case have initially been determined arbitrarily. Being a case approach, it may be difficult to generalize for all kinds of SMEs.
Practical implications
The problem faced by business owners as explored in this study brings a further dimension to the current literature on factors that hinder growth of SMEs. According to literature studies on factors hindering business growth, especially for SMEs selling alcoholic beverages, factors such as fighting, stealing and insulting as found in this study provide a new dimension on popular businesses especially in high-density areas or locations as they are popularly known in Namibia.
Originality/value
The originality of this study is the line of business - SMEs selling alcoholic beverages. This line of business is very popular and many venture into this because of the demand and profitability but because there are no studies, this paper will contribute and provide a framework to ensure success and business growth for future entrepreneurs in this line of business.

Abstract
Purpose
Auto‐components industry is a major subsector of automobile manufacturing sector and largest feeder industry that has put India on the global map for excellence and innovation. The purpose of this case study is undertaken to explore and understand the instruments adopted in designing and implementing the policies by Pune auto‐component small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Design/methodology/approach
The study used published literature and field survey for investigating policies designed and implemented by the SMEs in Pune. Survey was planned for statistical homogeneity on the basis of geography, class of ownership and the period of enquiry. Triangulation between methods, respondents, records and documents, was used to increase accuracy between sources. Structured questionnaire response has been analyzed by logical and statistical techniques to arrive at conclusions. One‐way analysis of variance was employed for statistical analysis to corroborate the findings.
Findings
Pune SMEs have revealed the tri‐lateral instrument consisting of conceptualisation, formulation and outcome analysis as a basis for designing policies for business and further exposed bi‐lateral instrument, which uses grouping of core and complimentary approaches for effectively addressing the challenges in business, which extends to their accomplishment of continued existence and development.
Originality/value
This paper will add value to the knowledge base of entrepreneurship and SMEs especially in auto‐components sector. Apart from this it will aid industrialists, entrepreneurs, consultants, and managers in managing SMEs, making better and informed decisions regarding the adoption of a tri‐lateral approach.
