Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to present a hybrid review combining the theory, context, characteristics and methodology (TCCM) framework and bibliometric analysis of international business research from 1991 to 2023, shedding light on the field’s growth, trends and key contributors.

Design/methodology/approach

Relevant papers were selected using the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses model. Initially, this paper conducted a descriptive analysis to identify prolific institutions, countries and journals. Using bibliometric techniques and the TCCM framework, this paper analyzed theory, context and method visualized through word clouds and keyword co-occurrence. The characteristic aspect was analyzed using bibliographic coupling to identify major themes, providing a comprehensive understanding of the most significant factors in international business research.

Findings

The analysis of a data set comprising 5,644 documents reveals a steady increase in the annual growth rate of publications, highlighting the growing significance of international business in the global economy. First, this paper noticed a significant increase in publications in leading international business journals, with the Journal of International Business Studies being the most prolific. Second, using the TCCM framework, this paper discovered that the resource-based view, institutional theory, transaction cost theory and internalization theory are predominant in international business research. Most studies have concentrated on firm or enterprise-level entities, followed by country-level analyses. This paper also identified six main themes: (1) innovation and strategy, (2) market, (3) HR impact and leadership, (4) marketing, (5) internationalization and (6) entrepreneurship. Quantitative methods have been the most frequently used research design, followed by qualitative and mixed methods.

Research limitations/implications

The study offers researchers and practitioners a roadmap for future investigations, collaboration and innovation in international business, thereby advancing the knowledge and understanding of this complex field within a globally interconnected economy.

Originality/value

This study provides insights into growth and trends, identifying journals, clustering research topics and enhancing theoretical and methodological understanding in the field of international business.

Abstract

Purpose

The main purpose of this paper is to analyze the sustainable inward FDI pattern of Vietnam.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper intends to analyze the sustainable FDI pattern of Vietnam using the gravity theory and panel data approach for the annual data over the period of 2007–2020.

Findings

Vietnamese FDI volume is positively affected by political and social factors, globalization and green energy consumption, while geographical distance is a major obstacle to the increase of FDI inflows of the country.

Practical implications

As the main practical policy implications, issuing policies for sustainable economic growth, launching the novel strategy of green FDI neighborhood policy and regionalism through free trade agreements are recommended.

Originality/value

To the best of author's knowledge, there has not been any in-depth academic study focusing on the Vietnam's sustainable FDI. In addition, three robustness checks have been conducted to ensure the validation of empirical findings.

Abstract

Purpose

The paper aims to sketch out the scenario of money laundering (ML) in Vietnam and the harm ML may cause to the country.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper first, based on the general concept of ML, scrutinizes actual and potential ML in Vietnam as well as ML threat to Vietnam. The typical cases of predicate offences, which were associated with ML activity, will be provided to illustrate the fact. Then a brief of Vietnam's response to ML will be examined.

Findings

ML has actually occurred since early in Vietnam. The potential for ML in Vietnam is substantial and poses growing harm to Vietnam in both the respects of economy and security. Although Vietnam has the primary legal framework of AML and set out AML countermeasures, the implementation has been hindered by several factors.

Originality/value

This paper would attract the attention of people who are concerned about ML in Vietnam.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to study the corrosion protection of 410 stainless steel (410SS) cracked by fatigue tests. The purpose of this study is to show that using polymeric coatings, it is possible to reduce the corrosion rate in metallic structures in operation.

Design/methodology/approach

Poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT)/poly(methyl-methacrylate) (PMMA) composite was used as a coating to protect the cracked 410SS in the corrosive environment 0.5 M NaCl at 25°C and 80°C. Physicochemical characterization was carried out by adhesion tests, thermogravimetric analysis, nuclear magnetic resonance and size exclusion chromatography. Surface morphology was studied before and after the electrochemical tests by scanning electron microscopy. Uncoated and coated cracked 410SS were characterized by DC electrochemical techniques: linear polarization resistance and potentiodynamic polarization curves.

Findings

P3HT/PMMA coating reduced corrosion rate and crack propagation of 410SS in the corrosive medium NaCl 0.5M. The P3HT/PMMA coating increased the polarization resistance by one order of magnitude and decreased the corrosion current density by one order of magnitude, relative to the values obtained with uncoated cracked 410SS. The coating helped to have a less damaged surface and less crack propagation on the cracked 410SS. The feasibility of increasing the useful life of cracked metal structures in a saline environment was demonstrated through polymeric composite coatings.

Originality/value

In the literature, no works were detected that report the use of organic coatings to protect cracked metals against corrosion. This is the first reported work on the corrosion protection of 410SS in a saline medium using coatings based on P3HT/PMMA.
