Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to describe the 4C's of Infuence framework and it's application to medicine and medical education. Leadership development is increasingly recognised as an integral physician skill. Competence, character, connection and culture are critical for effective influence and leadership. The theoretical framework, “The 4C’s of Influence”, integrates these four key dimensions of leadership and prioritises their longitudinal development, across the medical education learning continuum.
Design/methodology/approach
Using a clinical case-based illustrative model approach, the authors provide a practical, theoretical framework to prepare physicians and medical learners to be engaging influencers and leaders in the health-care system.
Findings
As leadership requires foundational skills and knowledge, a leader must be competent to best exert positive influence. Character-based leadership stresses development of, and commitment to, values and principles, in the face of everyday situational pressures. If competence confers the ability to do the right thing, character is the will to do it consistently. Leaders must value and build relationships, fostering connection. Building coalitions with diverse networks ensures different perspectives are integrated and valued. Connected leadership describes leaders who are inspirational, authentic, devolve decision-making, are explorers and foster high levels of engagement. To create a thriving, learning environment, culture must bring everything together, or will become the greatest barrier.
Originality/value
The framework is novel in applying concepts developed outside of medicine to the medical education context. The approach can be applied across the medical education continuum, building on existing frameworks which focus primarily on what competencies need to be taught. The 4C’s is a comprehensive framework for practically teaching the leadership for health care today.

Abstract
Rapid economic growth has enriched the lives of individuals and yielded rising material and living standards. However, various types of public pollution problems have successively emerged, and environmental problems have worsened in recent years. Furthermore, the prevalence of leisure and the rapid development of regional tourism industries and bed and breakfast lodging have exacerbated environmental destruction and pollution in various locales. The inclusion of ecotourism into ecological education and the provision of ecolodge are beneficial for the design of student learning outcomes; moreover, community residents and tourists can grasp the importance of environmental protection and education through ecolodging experiences. This measure would improve public awareness of environmental protection, facilitate the cultivation of social responsibility, and achieve the objective of environmental protection advocacy. Therefore, this study explored the relationship between ecological education and the environment by using Kenting National Park, a tourist attraction in Taiwan, as the case study. Tourists visiting the location were the research subjects, and convenience sampling was conducted by distributing 505 questionnaires, with 372 valid responses recovered—a return rate of 74%. The research revealed the following results: (a) Environmental education is positively correlated with environmental attitude. (b) Environmental attitude is positively correlated with environmental behavior. (c) Environmental education is positively correlated with environmental behavior. Finally, this paper proposes recommendations based on the research results with the aim of facilitating environmental literacy, correct environmental attitudes, concern for ecosystems, and the realization of environmental behavior.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to reveal the smart collaborative learning service. This concept aims to build teams of learners based on the complementarity of their skills, allowing flexible participation and offering interdisciplinary collaboration opportunities for all the learners. The success of this environment is related to predict efficient collaboration between the different teammates, allowing a smartly sharing knowledge in the Smart University environment.
Design/methodology/approach
A random forest (RF) approach is proposed, which is based on semantic modelization of the learner and the problem-solving allowing multidisciplinary collaboration, and heuristic completeness processing to build complementary teams. To achieve that, this paper established a Konstanz Information Miner workflow that integrates the main steps for building and evaluating the RF classifier, this workflow is divided into: extracting knowledge from the smart collaborative learning ontology, calculating the completeness using a novel heuristic and building the RF classifier.
Findings
The smart collaborative learning service enables efficient collaboration and democratized sharing of knowledge between learners, by using a semantic support decision support system. This service solves a frequent issue related to the composition of learning groups to serve pedagogical perspectives.
Originality/value
The present study harmonizes the integration of ontology, a new heuristic processing and supervised machine learning algorithm aiming at building an intelligent collaborative learning service that includes a qualified classifier of complementary teams of learners.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to develop a stochastic detailed schedule for a preventive/scheduled/periodic maintenance program of a military aircraft, specifically a rotorcraft or helicopter.
Design/methodology/approach
The new model, entitled the military “periodic aviation maintenance stochastic schedule” (PAM-SS), develops a stochastic detailed schedule for a PUMA SA 330SM helicopter for the 50-h periodic inspection, using cyclic operation network (CYCLONE) and Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) techniques. The PAM-SS model identifies the different periodic inspection tasks of the maintenance schedule, allocates the resources required for each task, evaluates a stochastic duration of each inspection task, evaluates the probability of occurrence for each breakdown or repair, develops the CYCLONE model of the stochastic schedule and simulates the model using MCS.
Findings
The 50-h maintenance stochastic duration follows a normal probability distribution and has a mean value of 323 min and a standard deviation of 23.7 min. Also, the stochastic maintenance schedule lies between 299 and 306 min for a 99 per cent confidence level. Furthermore, except the pilot and the electrical team (approximately 90 per cent idle), all other teams are around 40 per cent idle. A sensitivity analysis is also performed and yielded that the PAM-SS model is not sensitive to the number of technicians in each team; however, it is highly sensitive to the probability of occurrence of the breakdowns/repairs.
Practical implications
The PAM-SS model is specifically developed for military rotorcrafts, to manage the different resources involved in the detailed planning and scheduling of the periodic/scheduled maintenance, mainly the 50-h inspection. It evaluates the resources utilization (idleness and queue), the stochastic maintenance duration and identifies backlogs and bottlenecks.
Originality/value
The PAM-SS tackles military aircraft planning and scheduling in a stochastic methodology, considering uncertainties in all inspection task durations and breakdown or repair durations. The PAM-SS, although developed for rotorcrafts can be further developed for any other type of military aircraft or any other scheduled maintenance program interval.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to develop an integrated‐cost optimization maintenance model for industrial equipment, based on a balance between preventive and corrective maintenance costs.
Design/methodology/approach
The proposed model is mathematically based and takes into consideration the stochastic nature of equipment failures. The output from the model is a cost distribution against time from which the minimum cost may be found for a particular period and this period is defined as the optimum lifespan of the machine part.
Findings
The output from the proposed model was constrained to the production conditions on machine level. This constrained output was then refined subject to recent failure trends in comparison with historical trends. Guidelines have also been given for a smooth completion of the maintenance actions on a machining cell level. The anticipation of the failure rate of every machine‐part is made possible as well as the improvement of the part's availability at an extra financial cost that would be clearly anticipated. The results promise improvement in equipment availability, inventory and workforce planning, along with reductions in failure rates.
Practical implications
The implementation of the proposed model is expected to have a significant impact on an industrial organisation in terms of reducing its maintenance‐related costs, production lines backlogs and scrap rates.
Originality/value
The angle, from which the paper approaches the maintenance problem in industry, is original in nature and beneficial in result. It allows the user to have a deep understanding of his/her industrial domain without being involved in too much theoretical derivation. It also helps the user to treat only the contaminated spot (machine‐part) and not the whole assembly (the machine), which adds accuracy and potential impact to the output.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to report the results of an experimental study designed to better understand the role of online product reviews, both valence and volume, in the formation of initial online trust during a consumer’s exploratory stage with an e-tailer. This is done within the context of simultaneously varying e-tailer reputation and product type.
Design/methodology/approach
Participants take part in a conjoint task that involves viewing fictitious web pages and indicating their level of trust in using the site to purchase the product displayed. The web pages are developed by manipulating four attributes (e-tailer reputation, product type, summary product star rating and number of online reviews) according to a full factorial design. Conjoint models are estimated to determine the relative influence of each attribute on trust perceptions, the significance of selected two-way interactions among the four attributes, and potential moderating effects of varied prior online experiences, including previous usage frequency of online reviews.
Findings
Results reveal that e-tailer reputation has the greatest impact on initial trust perceptions, followed by the summary review star rating of the product. Significant two-way interactions show that a large number of reviews enhance the effect of a positive summary review on trust while shopping for high priced experience products diminishes the positive influence of e-tailer reputation. Prior online experiences moderate the relationship between these website attributes and perceived trust by interacting with the two strongest trust cues in the model. The effects of these attributes on trust perceptions are less for those with higher levels of prior online experiences.
Originality/value
The study uses conjoint analysis, which requires participants to implicitly “tradeoff” among website attributes in making overall judgments about e-tailer trustworthiness. Consequently, the relative influence of online reviews (both valence and volume) on initial trust perceptions is derived empirically in a realistic setting that involves online shopping contexts with different risk (by varying product type). Moreover, the authors are able to estimate interaction effects. A significant interaction between summary product star rating and number of reviews implies that online review volume may be more important to perceived e-tailer trustworthiness than earlier studies suggest.

Abstract
Purpose
Global developmental delay (GDD) is highly prevalent among patients at child psychiatry clinics. However, preschool day treatment centers are currently scarce. As such, this study aimed to evaluate a program that was designed for children with GDD in order to improve their global skills and prepare them to join the school system.
Design/methodology/approach
This study utilized an observation retrospective design with a comparative group sample and included all children aged between 3 and 6 years who participated in the program for at least one academic year (experimental group). Their GDD diagnoses were based on the DSM-5 criteria (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders). Children with similar diagnoses who were on the waiting list constituted the control group. Pre- and post-scoring of the Children’s Global Assessment Scale (CGAS) were conducted by the children’s teacher and blinded investigator for the experimental group, while the children’s mothers conducted the post-CGAS scoring for the control group.
Findings
The pre- and post-CGAS scores for the experimental group were 49.5 ± 12.8 and 58.3 ± 12.7 and 47.3 ± 17.3 and 66.6 ± 17.3 for the control group, respectively (p = 0.001). The children in the experimental group scored significantly better than the control group with respect to securing places in integrated, regular classes in the education system (p = 0.001).
Research limitations/implications
This study had certain limitations. First, the number of children in the control group was relatively small. Second, the baseline skill levels of some of the children in the control group may have been lower than those of the children in the experimental group at the beginning of the evaluation; this may explain why they had been put on the waiting list. Third, the information was gathered retrospectively; this is a method that is known to have its own limitations.
Practical implications
The clinical implications of the study are that the early identification and referral of GDD are key elements in the rehabilitation of these children and that early intervention programs are necessary for cases of moderate and severe GDD. Primary care physicians should follow up with GDD patients to ensure that referrals are being appropriately sought (Choo et al., 2019).
Originality/value
The program was effective in both increasing the general functioning skills of the children in the experimental group and preparing them to attend regular, integrated classes. The program should be expanded and made available to more children with GDD.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study to explore the perception, satisfaction, awareness and attitude levels of clients towards Islamic banking in Oman. By recognizing the elements affecting client affiliation with Islamic banks, this examination means to give important experiences to further developing client commitment and fulfilment in the Islamic financial area.
Design/methodology/approach
This study embraces a quantitative methodology, using SPSS@28 programming for information investigation. Information was gathered through studies directed to clients of Islamic banks in Oman. Exploratory factory analysis (EFA) was led to distinguish key variables impacting client affiliation, and dependability examination was performed using Cronbach’s alpha.
Findings
The discoveries uncover that perception arises as the main variable impacting client connection with Islamic banks in Oman, followed intently by satisfaction and awareness. Notwithstanding, the attitude factor displayed lower unwavering quality. Factual tests affirm the vigor of the noticed patterns, featuring the significance of perception, satisfaction and awareness in driving client commitment with Islamic financial establishments.
Research limitations/implications
This study is dependent upon specific constraints, as it centres exclusively around clients’ viewpoints and does not consider the perspectives of non-clients or partners in the Islamic financial industry. Future exploration could investigate these viewpoints to give a more complete comprehension of the variables impacting client connection with Islamic banks in Oman.
Practical implications
The discoveries of this study have commonsense ramifications for Islamic financial foundations in Oman. By understanding the elements impacting client alliance, banks can foster designated methodologies to improve client commitment, fulfilment and steadfastness. This might include further developing correspondence endeavours, improving assistance quality and tending to client concerns to encourage a positive financial encounter.
Originality/value
This study adds to the current writing by giving experimental experiences into the discernments, mentalities, mindfulness and fulfilment levels of clients towards Islamic banking in Oman. The recognizable proof of key elements impacting client affiliation with Islamic banks offers important direction for banking foundations trying to reinforce their associations with clients and work on general execution in the Islamic financial area.
