Abstract
It is not a new idea that the evolution of a librarian depends on more than learning professional facts and studying the day to day work of a library. To some extent librarians, like creative artists, may be persons with inherited propensities, but like artists they are improved beyond comparison by organised education. Better education for librarianship is a primary necessity for professional progress both in the services offered to readers and in the estimate of a librarian's worth by those readers. It is difficult to find evidence, however, that many librarians give sufficient thought to the nature of librarianship, as distinct from library services and technical practices, to be troubled with the subject of improving professional education, or even to wonder if it has any importance except as a preliminary to the passing of professional examinations and the payment of professional scales of salaries.

Abstract
Fiction and the fiction industry is a first‐class piece of cultural journalism, and is bound to be a lively source of instruction for anyone at all concerned with that “industry”, be he librarian, bookseller, publisher or novelist. Every page abounds with facts and figures, and every page is interesting. Dr Sutherland is exhaustive in his survey, without being exhausting; he is both hard‐headed and light of touch. For the most part, he lets his subject speak for itself.

Abstract
Literature is the word that comes to one's lips when Arundell Esdaile's name is heard. He wrote only a few general essays nd a little verse, in Autolycus' Pack, and a volume of verse, Wise Men from the East, but he had fine taste in letters, and he was an artist in lucid, pure English, at once light and fluent, dignified and impressive, even when his subject was bibliography or his “recreation,” librarianship.

Abstract
Our symposium published in the Winter number has raised much interest among readers at home and in Canada and the United States. Now we have pleasure in publishing comments by James Brindle, County Librarian of Fife; Daniel Hay, Librarian, Public Library, Whitehaven; J. G. O'Leary, Borough Librarian, Dagenham; and Paul Sykes, City Librarian, Peterborough. There is also a contribution from an ex‐teacher reader who has used libraries much in his own career.

Abstract
NATURAL aptitude, training, experience: these are the three factors necessary for competence in any vocation. But having stated the ideal, what is the reality? Recruitment to libraries is quite as haphazard as it is to any other job. It is best when unemployment is rife. It is poorest when full employment is achieved. The assistant arrives more by accident than design. He is usually an amenable, adaptable creature, ready enough to learn and make the most of the estate to which he has been called. Thus it is that training becomes paramount, and education in librarianship the prime duty of the Library Association.

(2) Relationship of Hypovitaminosis B1 to Man—Beriberi.—In human beings the only influence of vitamin B1 is that in relation to beriberi. This disease occurs in two forms—(a) Dry Type: Characterised by muscular wasting, anaesthesia of the skin, and finally paralysis of the legs, and in some cases of the arms, intercostal muscles, and diaphragm; there is an associated degeneration of the peripheral nerves, both motor and sensory; and (b) Wet Type: The most marked feature in this form is oedema of limbs and trunk, and effusion into the serous cavities; dilatation of the heart with congestion of the lungs is present, and there is a high mortality from cardiac failure.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of the study is to enhance the extant empirical and conceptual understanding of Industry 4.0 (I4.0) adoption and its repercussions for an organisation operating in an emerging economy, considering the dynamic capabilities framework. The study investigates (1) the potential impact of the I4.0 phenomenon on relationships between organisations and industry actors, (2) the existing effects of I4.0 on these relationships and (3) the necessary measures for organisations to unlock the full potential of I4.0 in order to enhance and reinforce these relationships.
Design/methodology/approach
A qualitative method was used. Semi-structured, open-ended face-to-face and online interviews were conducted with 18 directors, managers and chief executive officers (CEOs) of Savico, a leading Vietnamese car dealership.
Findings
The analysis revealed various dimensions highlighting impacts on organisation–industry actor relationships. For instance, the “enhancing internal/external operations” dimension highlights the significance of benefitting the company’s close stakeholders through a centralised management system or more advanced functions, while the empowering-nimble outcomes dimension underlines the benefits of I4.0 in enabling performance-based choices and staff empowerment.
Practical implications
Technological phenomena such as the I4.0 regime require constant adaptive strategies, including knowledge acquisition and talent development. Thus, the study has implications for industry stakeholders, including companies, educational institutions and government agencies.
Originality/value
The study’s key value lies in proposing a model that provides conceptual depth into organisation–industry actor relationships. Furthermore, both the analysis and the model can guide researchers in future attempts to examine dynamic capabilities among firms operating in emerging economies, with important practical and theoretical implications.
