Abstract
TiO2 thin films were deposited by Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) on glass substrates at 27°C and 100°C. The extraction efficiency of evanescent light from the deposited nanolayers and their thickness profiles in the range of (1-100) nm was evaluated using the Differential Evanescent Light Intensity (DELI) imaging method. This optical microscopy technique is based on capturing the evanescent light emitted by the material layer deposited on the substrate. The results were analyzed and discussed in terms of the effective penetration depth parameter. The effective scattering cross-section of the TiO2 nanometer particles was estimated.

Abstract
A simulation method was developed to display images of nano-particles and their dynamic 2D growth on surfaces, due to mechanisms such as adsorption, diffusion and coalescence. In this method a mathematical Fourier frequency tranforms (FT) of a 2D image density functions representing the nanostructure and image processing are combined to obtain a continuos visualization of thin film depositon process. These images are then convoluted using FT of spatiotemporal integrodifferential equations involving the physical driving forces models in the frequency domain. Using an appropriate prediction models we were able to solve the spatiotemporal evolutional equations. Thus the surface growth and restructuring effects taking place during the photo-deposition processes were investigated. In particular, the dynamic changes of the photo-deposited nanoparticles morphology during sub-monolayer growth were simulated. The simulation and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) micrographs of a-Se photo deposited thin films during monolayer formation were discuussed and were found to be good accordance and complementary.

Purpose
This paper aims to report the conductivity measurement of ten different surfactant-free microemulsions (SFMEs)
Design/methodology/approach
The variations of electrical conductivity as a function of water volume fraction are examined at one constant alcohol (or DMF, ethyl lactate, γ-valerolactone)/water, alcohol (or DMF, ethyl lactate, γ-valerolactone)/oil volume ratios for each sample.
Findings
Most of the results are consistent with percolation character. The conductive mechanism of these SFMEs is discussed by the percolation model, and it is found that it might be described with the static percolation model below the percolation threshold.
Originality/value
Our report gives a systematic research on the percolation mechanism of as many species of SFMEs as possible by the theoretical models

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to present a novel manufacturing process that aims to pattern metal tracks onto polyimide at atmospheric pressure and ambient environment. The process can be scaled up for industrial applications.
Design/methodology/approach
From a thorough literature survey, different approaches were carried out for processing polyimide. Following a design of experiments for the processing and various characterisation techniques, a micro‐coil was manufactured as a test demonstrator.
Findings
The characteristics of some main formaldehyde‐based electroless copper baths were compared. The quality of the sidewalls was characterised and the performance of the process was assessed.
Originality/value
This paper demonstrates a high‐value manufacturing technique that is mass manufacturable, low cost and suitable for use on 3D surfaces. Criteria required for the development of a direct‐writing process have been described. The issues surrounding electroless plating on polyimide have been explained.

Abstract
This chapter deconstructs the carefully crafted marketing rollout of the US-based Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) in 1997, which was presented as the biggest launch in women's sports history. Through a textual and rhetorical analysis, this chapter argues that the WNBA and its corporate partners – through the bundling of distribution channels, sponsorships, and advertising strategies – created three distinct, and at times ideologically conflicting, images of the league: the WNBA as valid capitalistic enterprise, the WNBA as a masculine validation of female athleticism, and the WNBA as a symbolic moment in the political struggle of women for equality. Yet, while this initial, fractured marketing of the league provided a space for cultivating a challenge to dominant gender politics, this space was ultimately restricted to white, heterosexual conceptions of women as the league's array of marketing strategies were unified in reproducing regressive representations of race and sexuality that animate contemporary US sports. However, in institutionally maintaining this narrow, limited space for challenge and protest against inequality, the WNBA nonetheless sanctioned the league as one where players could still fight against injustice. Ultimately, this space would provide a platform for WNBA athletes to enact pioneering challenges against police brutality and racial injustice that would contradict the league's strategic aims.
