Abstract
Purpose
This study examines the impact of five dimensions of decent work on the faculty engagement in Pakistan’s higher education institutions. Furthermore, it examines the moderating influence of intrinsic religiosity on the associations above.
Design/methodology/approach
This research employed a cross-sectional approach to collect data from 542 faculty members working with higher education institutions through electronic and in-person questionnaire administration.
Findings
The findings indicate that safe interpersonal working conditions, opportunities for free time and rest, adequate compensation, and the availability of healthcare services significantly positively impact the level of work engagement among faculty members. Additionally, the research revealed that intrinsic religiosity reinforces the previously established significant associations.
Research limitations/implications
The research acknowledges specific constraints that could impact the applicability of its findings, including the utilization of a cross-sectional methodology, the dependence on self-reported information, and the possibility of sample biases. Subsequent investigations may rectify these constraints to provide a more all-encompassing comprehension of the subject matter.
Practical implications
The findings possess practical significance for the management of HEIs in cultivating an ideal working atmosphere for faculty members. Ensuring adequate compensation, secure working environments and healthcare accessibility is underscored to enhance faculty engagement. Furthermore, acknowledging the significance of intrinsic religiosity can improve faculty engagement.
Originality/value
This research contributes to the current body of literature by investigating the complex relationship among decent work, faculty engagement, and intrinsic religiosity in the specific context of higher education institutions in Pakistan.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to introduce a sensorized surgical grasper with a novel flexible capacitive tactile force sensor integrated within the surgical grasper for minimally invasive surgery (MIS) and robot-assisted MIS (RMIS) procedures.
Design/methodology/approach
The proposed sensor offers a unique configuration of sensing electrodes with one top excitation electrode and three bottom electrodes enabling the measurement of normal and shear forces without incorporating any complex decoupling algorithms. The design of the sensor is optimized using finite-element method simulations, ensuring efficiency and reliability.
Findings
Experimental validation, real-time sensor response and application in lump detection through stiffness assessment demonstrate the decoupled force response (0–5 N normal range and 0–2 N shear range) with high sensitivity 0.0124/N, repeatability and hysteresis response with 5.65% and 4.7% errors respectively.
Originality/value
The compact design of the sensor makes it compliant with surgical graspers and therefore enhances the overall efficiency of robotic surgical procedures. The sensorized surgical grasper is fabricated using conventional machining and rapid prototyping techniques, presenting a cost-effective solution for adoption.

Abstract
Purpose
The primary purpose of this research is to identify and compare the multifractal behavior of different sectors during these crises and analyze their implications on market efficiency.
Design/methodology/approach
We used multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis (MF-DFA) to analyze stock returns from various sectors of the Moscow Stock Exchange (MOEX) in between two significant periods. The COVID-19 pandemic (January 1, 2020, to December 31, 2021) and the Russia–Ukraine conflict (RUC) (January 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023). This method witnesses multifractality in financial time series data and tests the persistency and efficiency levels of each sector to provide meaningful insights.
Findings
Results showcased persistent multifractal behavior across all sectors in between the COVID-19 pandemic and the RUC, spotting heightened arbitrage opportunities in the MOEX. The pandemic reported a greater speculative behavior, with the telecommunication and oil and gas sectors exhibiting reduced efficiency, recommending abnormal return potential. In contrast, financials and metals and mining sectors displayed increased efficiency, witnessing strong economic performance. Findings may enhance understanding of market dynamics during crises and provide strategic insights for the MOEX’s investors.
Practical implications
Understanding the multifractal properties and efficiency of different sectors during crisis periods is of paramount importance for investors and policymakers. The identified arbitrage opportunities and efficiency variations can aid investors in optimizing their investment strategies during such critical market conditions. Policymakers can also leverage these insights to implement measures that bolster economic stability and development during crisis periods.
Originality/value
This research contributes to the existing body of knowledge by providing a comprehensive analysis of multifractal properties and efficiency in the context of the MOEX during two major crises. The application of MF-DFA to sectoral stock returns during these events adds originality to the study. The findings offer valuable implications for practitioners, researchers and policymakers seeking to navigate financial markets during turbulent times and enhance overall market resilience.

Abstract
Purpose
This study investigates the influence of paradoxical leadership on employee transformative learning in higher education institutions (HEIs). Based on paradox theory, this research examines how a paradoxical mindset mediates this relationship and explores the moderating role of employees’ moral values in developing a paradoxical mindset and fostering transformative learning.
Design/methodology/approach
The research adopted a quantitative approach. In three phases, data were collected from 411 randomly selected faculty members of HEIs in Pakistan to assess their perceptions of paradoxical leadership, followers’ paradoxical mindset, moral values and transformative learning outcomes. Structural equation modeling was employed for analysis in AMOS26.
Findings
The findings reveal paradoxical leadership’s positive and significant impact on transformative learning, mediated by developing a paradoxical mindset. Moral values positively moderate the relationship between paradoxical leadership and developing a paradoxical mindset. However, the moderating effect of moral values on the link between a paradoxical mindset and transformative learning was insignificant.
Practical implications
The study suggests that organizations, particularly HEIs, should cultivate paradoxical leadership to navigate inherent tensions and contradictions, fostering an environment conducive to transformative learning. Developing a paradoxical mindset among employees is crucial for enhancing adaptability and learning, with moral values playing a pivotal role in amplifying the effectiveness of paradoxical leadership.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the literature by providing empirical evidence on the mechanism through which paradoxical leadership influences transformative learning. It extends paradox theory to the context of transformative learning, highlighting the importance of cognitive and ethical dimensions in leadership and learning processes within HEIs.

Abstract
Purpose
Consumers and businesses are becoming increasingly conscious of sustainable business practices and are often willing to pay a premium for responsibly sourced and manufactured products. Many countries and organizations have implemented regulations and standards for sustainability and companies face penalties or are barred from exporting for not meeting the requirements. Rooted in the resource-based view theory, this study aims to test a moderated mediation model to improve the sustainability performance of exporting firms.
Design/methodology/approach
Textile firms generating more than 25% of export revenues were targeted for this research. The data collected from 245 middle management-level employees were tested for reliability and validity. The structural equation modelling in AMOS 26 was used to test hypotheses.
Findings
Organizational readiness for green innovation (ORGI) has a direct positive effect on sustainability performance. The mediation analysis implies that ORGI translates into sustainability performance through improvement in green innovation performance. The moderating effect of knowledge integration highlights the importance of being prepared internally and actively seeking and incorporating external knowledge to improve green innovation performance.
Originality/value
The findings offer a solid foundation for informed decision-making, policy development and strategies to improve sustainability performance while aligning with the global nature of the textile industry and its inherent challenges. The proposed model and practical implications guide policymakers and managers of exporting firms to foster a culture of green innovation to leverage the effect of their readiness for green innovation on sustainability performance.

Abstract
Purpose
This research investigates the mediation effect of perceived organizational support on the relationship between organization-based self-esteem and perceived occupational stress of teachers.
Design/methodology/approach
The present quantitative venture follows a causal research design to unveil the relationship among organization based self-esteem (independent variable), perceived occupational stress (dependent variable) and perceived organizational support (intervening variable). The research surveys 813 educators from nineteen selected distinct areas of Dhaka city; the survey instrument has twenty-six items apart from some general inquires about the respondents. To address the dynamic interplay among these variables, a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) is conducted within a structural equation modeling (SEM) framework.
Findings
Teachers with low self-esteem perceived a high level of occupational stress, whereas teachers who perceived high organizational support feel low occupational stress. Increasing organizational support not only increases organization-based self-esteem but also mediates the relationship between self-esteem and occupational stress.
Practical implications
Teachers' stress is not only an increasing problem over the years but also it was one of the top six most stressful professions. The present study outlines the possible organizational initiatives that can reduce the stresses of the teaching profession.
Originality/value
The findings of the present study square with several theoretical frameworks such as the job demands–resources (JD–R) model and conservation of resources (COR) theory. The results highlight the fact that allowing school teachers to express their ideas and points of view makes them feel esteemed. Likewise, good relations with the school head and getting positive feedback are found to be contributing factors. The teachers feel lesson planning overburdensome and undue office inspections hurt their self-esteem. Any school can increase the self-esteem of the teachers by providing support and training to adjust to changes.

Abstract
Purpose
This research explains the critical role of technological readiness and green dynamic capabilities in enhancing the sustainability performance of manufacturing firms, which is pivotal for achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. The theoretical framework is grounded in the dynamic capability theory, positing that technological readiness enhances a firm’s green dynamic capabilities, and employee green behavior moderates the effect on the sustainability performance of manufacturing firms.
Design/methodology/approach
Quantitative data from 1,660 managerial employees of a diverse sample of manufacturing firms was aggregated at the firm level using interclass correlation and interrater agreement, ensuring robustness using at least two responses per firm. With the final dataset of 418 firms, structural equation modeling was conducted using AMOS26.
Findings
The findings reveal that technological readiness positively affects sustainability performance and enhances it through green dynamic capabilities. Furthermore, the study highlights the positive moderating role of employees’ green behavior, amplifying the impact of green dynamic capabilities on sustainability performance.
Originality/value
This research makes a novel contribution to the body of knowledge by integrating dynamic capability theory with empirical evidence on sustainability performance. It represents a significant step toward promoting a more sustainable and responsible future for organizations and society and provides comprehensive insights into the complex interplay of these variables. These insights are crucial for academia, industry practitioners and policymakers striving to foster sustainable practices within the manufacturing sector.

Abstract
Purpose
By considering Facebook as a social context of manifesting digital habitus, this paper aims to explore the differences between men and women in the compensatory use of Facebook, their engagement in crafting and exhibiting virtual self-representation, and addictive traits associated with it. It is argued that while Facebook compensates for the negative consequences of real-world experiences by allowing users, particularly women to display an ideal self or a true virtual self and so aid in socializing, users eventually develop an addiction, which results in various social difficulties.
Design/methodology/approach
The study surveyed 511 male and 413 female undergraduate students who were between 19 to 26 years of age and reported being unmarried. Psycho-Social Aspects of Facebook Use Scale was used to solicit the responses. The factors were quantified by the items selected from the scale, and confirmatory factor analysis was used to assess the construct validity and reliability of items to check the usability of the scale in cross-cultural contexts. The Independent Samples t-test was used to check whether statistical evidence exists that the related sample means of men and women vary significantly.
Findings
While there is no difference in virtualizing the self by gender; women perceive Facebook as more compensating than men. Likewise, compared with men, women are found to be more self-presenting, more addictive and highly involved in socializing. The item-wise differences show that Facebook comparatively enhances the self-esteem of the women and women are more adventurous than men in Facebook interaction.
Originality/value
The study argues that there is a strong connection between the digital habitus and the social world. Social values and conditioning constrain people’s intention of being in the digital world and reflect their intention and decisions. Overall, the study is the most elaborative quantitative examination of how men and women differ in their Facebook behavior.

Purpose
Sustainability is a pressing global issue that affects everyone on the planet. This study aims to provide a deeper understanding of the nuanced interplay between mindful organizing (MO), organizational learning capability (OLC), leadership commitment to sustainable development goals (SDGs) and sustainability performance, adopting the theoretical foundation of organizational learning.
Design/methodology/approach
The survey data from 728 middle management employees of exporting firms in Pakistan were collected at two points. The mediated moderation analysis was performed through structural equation modeling in AMOS 26.
Findings
The results indicate a positive relationship between MO and sustainability performance. The mediating effect of OLC highlights that firms that acquire, assimilate and apply knowledge and insights leverage their MO strategies to improve sustainability performance more effectively. Additionally, the leadership commitment to SDGs amplifies the positive effect of OLC on sustainability performance.
Practical implications
These results have important implications for managers and policymakers who seek to promote sustainability in organizations. The findings suggest that cultivating a mindful organizational culture and investing in learning capability enhance sustainability performance. Exporting firms should develop comprehensive learning programs that embed mindfulness and sustainability into the core of organizational culture. More interdisciplinary research is needed to integrate insights from environmental science, psychology, management and organizational behavior.
Originality/value
This research stands out for its integrative approach, practical relevance, empirical examination of important concepts and alignment with global sustainability goals. Exporting firms must understand how organizational learning capabilities and MO can be harnessed to achieve sustainable outcomes.

Purpose
This study aimed to examine the efficient market hypothesis (EMH) for the stock markets of 12 member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), such as Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Morocco, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), during the global financial crisis (GFC) and the COVID-19 (CV-19) epidemic. The objective was to classify the effects on individual indices.
Design/methodology/approach
The study employed the multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis (MF-DFA) on daily returns. After calculation and analysis, the data were then divided into two significant events: the GFC and the CV-19 pandemic. Additionally, the market deficiency measure (MDM) was utilized to assess and rank market efficiency.
Findings
The findings indicate that the average returns series exhibited persistent and non-persistent patterns during the GFC and the CV-19 pandemic, respectively. The study employed MF-DFA to analyze the sequence of normal returns. The results suggest that the average returns series displayed persistent and non-persistent patterns during the GFC and the CV-19 pandemic, respectively. Furthermore, all markets demonstrated efficiency during the two crisis periods, with Turkey and Tunisia exhibiting the highest and deepest levels of efficiency, respectively. The multifractal properties were influenced by long-range correlations and fat-tailed distributions, with the latter being the primary contributor. Moreover, the impact of the fat-tailed distribution on multifractality was found to be more pronounced for indices with lower market efficiency. In conclusion, this study categorizes indices with low market efficiency during both crisis periods, which subsequently affect the distribution of assets among shareholders in the stock markets of OIC member countries.
Practical implications
Multifractal patterns, especially the long memory property observed in stock markets, can assist investors in formulating profitable investment strategies. Additionally, this study will contribute to a better understanding of market trends during similar events should they occur in the future.
Originality/value
This research marks the initial effort to assess the impact of the GFC and the CV19 pandemic on the efficiency of stock markets in OIC countries. This undertaking is of paramount importance due to the potential destabilizing and harmful effects of these events on global financial markets and societal well-being. Furthermore, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study represents the first investigation utilizing the MFDFA method to analyze the primary stock markets of OIC countries, encompassing both the GFC and CV19 crises.
