Abstract
Purpose
The aim of this paper is to construct a model of cost efficiency and service effectiveness for a university e-library to allocate e-resources cost and to attain quality of service enhancement and cater to the needs of readers with existing e-resources.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper establishes an assessment model for the cost efficiency and service effectiveness of a university e-library in Taiwan. It then proceeds with an empirical study and analysis of related data collected from e-libraries of 16 universities. A discussion of the results of the study and suggestions for the adjustment of the university e-libraries follows.
Findings
The paper combines two models of cost efficiency and service effectiveness for the first time to analyze and consider the output results created by the input cost of university e-libraries in Taiwan and their utilization by readers.
Originality/value
The paper builds a figure for the relationship of e-library cost efficiency and service effectiveness at 16 universities in Taiwan and then divides it into four types.

Abstract
This paper establishes an appropriate model of university electronic library performance indicators to evaluate the electronic libraries in Taiwan. Resources referred to in the process of establishing an initial model of performance indicators include the performance indicators for electronic libraries found in the EQUINOX system; the balanced scorecard concept, designed and implemented in Germany to evaluate the performance of the three largest university and research libraries; and the approach outlined in the ALA's standard for college libraries. Moreover, the Delphi method, the persistent mailing of questionnaires and interviewing of specialists, was applied to obtain the various opinions of library specialists, head librarians at university libraries, and other staff members working in university electronic libraries in Taiwan. Through this process a practical model of electronic library performance indicators, was established appropriate to the needs of Taiwan which will be acceptable to the majority of Taiwan's university libraries.

Abstract
Purpose
This article aims to construct a performance evaluation system for the e‐library in universities in Taiwan. The paper uses actual university cases as the target for analysis for in‐depth research so as to provide an evaluation reference.
Design/methodology/approach
This article reviewed the library performance evaluations found in the literature of the UK, Germany, USA and Taiwan and constructed primary performance evaluation indicators. The Delphi Method was then used to summarize the opinions of experts in completing the construction of a performance evaluation model for e‐library. With all the factors of e‐library, user satisfaction and input of libraries as the basis, Analytic Hierarchy Process is used to illustrate the problems and combine the two to establish the hierarchy structure for the performance evaluation of this research. The weights of all indicators within hierarchies are calculated and then the weight of the overall hierarchies are worked out.
Findings
The e‐library plays two important roles: data searching and academic study.
Originality/value
Using relevant e‐business data collected from libraries in six universities, combining indicator weight and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), this paper considers the distance of the universities from positive and negative Ideal Solutions as the evidence for ranking and demonstrate the overall performance of e‐libraries in all universities – providing future improvement directions for university libraries. The research can also provide important future decision‐making references for libraries and universities to enable better performances.

Abstract
Purpose
Cargo loss has been a major issue in logistics management. However, few studies have tackled the issue of cargo loss severity via business analytics. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to provide guidance about how to retrieve valuable information from logistics data and to develop cargo loss mitigation strategies for logistics risk management.
Design/methodology/approach
This study proposes a research design of business analytics to scrutinize the causes of cargo loss severity.
Findings
The empirical results of the decision tree analytics reveal that transit types, product categories, and shipping destinations are key factors behind cargo loss severity. Furthermore, strategies for cargo loss prevention were developed.
Research limitations/implications
The proposed framework of cargo loss analytics provides a research foundation for logistics risk management.
Practical implications
Companies with logistics data can utilize the proposed business analytics to identify cargo loss factors, while companies without logistics data can employ the proposed cargo loss mitigation strategies in their logistics systems.
Originality/value
This pioneer empirical study scrutinizes the critical cargo loss issues of cargo damage, cargo theft, and cargo liability insurance through exploiting real cargo loss data.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine the key factors that affect users’ adoption of e-books using an extension of the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) that includes the following factors: environmental concerns, perceived benefits, and benevolence trust.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors analyzed survey responses from 343 participants using structural equation modeling to examine the hypothesized relationships in this research model.
Findings
The results show that users’ adoption of e-books is determined by performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, environmental concern, perceived benefit, and benevolence trust.
Research limitations/implications
The authors restricted this study to consumers’ adoption of e-books. Further studies could examine consumer’s adoption of other mediums, such as cutting-edge information technologies.
Practical implications
The results suggest that marketers should consider altering their methods of promoting e-books to attract consumers and further affect their usage intention.
Originality/value
This study proposes and tests an extended UTAUT model that includes the additional factors of environmental concern, perceived benefit, and benevolence trust in order to examine the influence of these factors on e-book adoption. The findings are particularly useful for assisting managers to increase e-book adoption.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate measurement methods that are in use in various aspects of academic libraries in Oman.
Design/methodology/approach
The framework of the research was built to explore various steps of conceptualizing, collecting, analyzing data, and reporting results. Data gathered through in‐depth interviews with participants represented different management levels. The analysis process utilized content analysis to shape the relationship between categories that were subjected to formulate knowledge.
Findings
Results show that all libraries have used one method or more in evaluating the progress of their services, and the performance of their staff members. These include: surveys; reports; KPIs; statistics; and interviews, in addition to appraisal forms which are used for staff evaluation. Alongside internal evaluation by librarians, an external evaluation by OAC and other international bodies took place in some libraries.
Research limitations/implications
The research was challenged by great differences in history, size, and infrastructure between the institutions, which had affected the selection of the research population. Moreover, reports and statistics which existed in some libraries could not provide the necessary data, which forced the researcher to depend on the data gathered from respondents in building the research knowledge.
Originality/value
This study aims to fill part of the gap which exists in measurement processes of information services, as it is the first study shedding light on evaluation methods in academic libraries in Oman.

Abstract
Purpose
Leisure and tourism activities have proliferated and become important parts of modern life, and the hotel industry plays a necessary role in the supply for and demand from consumers. The purpose of this paper is to develop guidelines for hotel service development by applying a service development approach integrating Kansei engineering and text mining.
Design/methodology/approach
The online reviews represent the voice of customers regarding the products and services. Consumers’ online comments might become a key factor for consumers choosing hotels when planning their tourism itinerary. With the framework of Kansei engineering, this paper adopts text mining to extract the sets of Kansei words and hotel service characteristics from the online contents as well as the relationships among Kansei words, service characteristics and these two sets. The relationships are generated by using link analysis, and then the guidelines for hotel service development are proposed based on the obtained relationships.
Findings
The results of the present research can provide the hotel industry a comprehensive understanding of hotels’ customers opinions, and can offer specific advice on how to differentiate one’s products and services from competitors’ in order to improve customer satisfaction and increase hotels’ performance in the end. Finally, this study finds out the service development guidelines to meet customers’ requirements which can provide suggestions for hotel managers. The implications both for academic and industry are also drawn based on the obtained results.
Originality/value
Now, in the internet era, consumers can comment on their hotel living experience directly through the internet. The large amount of user-generated content (UGC) provided by consumers also provides chances for the hospitality industry to understand consumers’ opinions through online review mining. The UGC with consumers’ opinions to hotel services can be continuously collected and analyzed by hoteliers. Therefore, this paper demonstrates how to apply the hybrid approach integrating Kansei engineering and online review mining to hotel service development.
