Abstract
Resource sharing through document delivery in the Arabian Gulf has yet to be achieved in spite of unifying factors, such as language, faith, economic base, and social and cultural conditions. Additionally, little has been achieved in implementing the ABEGS Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Code. However, the KFUPM Library is supporting resource sharing by providing ten articles per library per month free. The article presents the results of a study to measure success (fill) rates, turnaround times, and transmission methods. The results indicate 75.2 percent and 65.9 percent fill rates of the articles requested from the KFUPM Library and received by the KFUPM Library, respectively. The average turnaround time was found to be 13.2 days.

Abstract
Library services have been tremendously influenced by rapid technological innovations over the years. The Internet has virtually provided a new dimension to every area of library services and operations. Document delivery remained no exception to these changes. Besides looking at various Internet applications, the paper also examines available electronic document delivery (EDD) transmission systems using the Internet, such as the ARIEL system of Research Libraries Information Network (RLIN), the North Carolina State University Digitized Document Transmission Project (DDTP), and the Ohio State University Network Fax Project. The paper also presents the results of a survey conducted to determine the availability of required hardware and software in the Gulf academic libraries to use the Internet for EDD. The survey confirmed the availability of required equipment in the Gulf academic libraries and their willingness to participate in the EDD. Their adoption of the Internet for EDD for resource sharing is essential if user self‐sufficiency is to be achieved.

Abstract
Academic libraries worldwide have been utilizing the Internet to enhance collections, expand services and improve operations. Internet resources and services, such as e‐mail, online public access catalogs, publishers’ catalogs, electronic resources, multimedia encyclopedias, and dictionaries are becoming common and useful collection‐building tools in many libraries, especially academic libraries. This paper discusses the essential elements of management for change in academic libraries, the ways in which acquisitions managers can exhibit leadership in this environment, and how acquisitions librarians can cope with this change. The paper examines the various Internet tools that are being used in the electronic environment for the selection and ordering of books online. The paper also presents an overview of how the use of the Internet has changed the traditional concept of selection and ordering processes in academic libraries.

Abstract
Studies the effect of eight CD indexes on online searching through statistical data of online searching conducted for the faculty, graduate students and researchers before and after acquisition of CD indexes. Findings indicate considerable decline in online searching use owing to CD indexes saving a large amount of money. Discusses the impact of CD indexes on staffing in the reference department.

Abstract
The Arabian Gulf Chapter of the Special Libraries Association (AGC/SLA) was founded in 1992 with the objectives of communicating, disseminating and using information effectively in the area which covers Bahrain, Dubai, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. AGC/SLA provides one of the main channels of communication for professional librarians and information scientists in the area and membership comprises staff working in academic, medical, school, governmental and industrial libraries, as well as ‘recreational librarians’ who serve the large, and predominantly ‘ex‐pat’ community, of Aramco in Saudi Arabia, many of whom are working in the oil industry.
