Abstract
Purpose
Decision-making and problem-solving are ongoing progressions of evaluating situations or problems, considering substitutes, making choices and following them up with the necessary actions. The relationship between managers’ decision-making and information technology (IT) has long been of interest to researchers. This study aims to examine the changes in novel technologies in facilitating managers’ decisions that influence the quality and timeliness of information and decision-making.
Design/methodology/approach
The present paper is a descriptive-correlative study in terms of the data collection method and is applicable in terms of purpose. In addition, the library-field method was used to collect information. Because of the target and subject of the research of the statistical population, this research contains all managers of a management organization that are 100 people. The present study is used in the structural equation modeling method to examine causal models and evaluate the reliability and validity of the measurement model. The presented model and the gathered information from the questionnaires were analyzed through SmartPLS software.
Findings
The results indicate that the IT infrastructure, expert systems, marketing information systems (ISs) and organizational variables significantly influence the ease of managers’ decision-making and considering these dimensions is a step in the success of managers’ decisions.
Research limitations/implications
This study used a questionnaire to collect information, which may result in some people refusing to provide a real answer and giving an unrealistic answer. This study is also cross-sectional, and therefore, makes it difficult to conclude about causality. In addition, access to statistics and information is one of the significant pillars of research.
Practical implications
The paper presents useful advice for improving decision-making. In addition, the topic is relevant to the ease of managers’ decisions. A better understanding of the impact of IT infrastructure, expert systems, marketing ISs and organizational variables could significantly enhance managers’ success.
Originality/value
The ideas and topics discussed are equally applicable to libraries and can provide new insights into the impact of IT infrastructures, expert systems, marketing ISs and organizational variables on the ease of decision makers as a source of competition.

Abstract
Purpose
This study explores how three-dimensional job autonomy (decision-making, work method and work scheduling) affects employees’ thriving at work and service recovery performance in the hospitality industry during COVID-19.
Design/methodology/approach
This study utilized cross-sectional dyadic data from 287 frontline workers in the Chinese hospitality sector and analyzed it with Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS) and the PROCESS macro.
Findings
The findings indicate that three-dimensional autonomy has a direct impact on thriving and an indirect effect on service recovery performance (SRP) through thriving, and the relationship between three-dimensional autonomy and thriving is moderated by SOCV19R.
Originality/value
This study addresses the existing gap in research regarding the various aspects of autonomy. It explores how distinct dimensions of autonomy affect employees’ thriving at work and, in turn, influence their ability to excel in service recovery. Furthermore, it sheds light on how the unique circumstances of COVID-19, as represented by SOCV19R, play a role in understanding the dynamics between different forms of autonomy and employees’ thriving.

Abstract
Purpose
Artificial intelligence (AI) used in service has sparked fundamental changes in how enterprises engage their customers. AI specifically designed for customer service is denoted as service-oriented AI. Through the lens of social information processing theory and the pleasure-arousal-dominance (PAD) emotional state model, this study aims to examine the underlying mechanisms for service-oriented AI anthropomorphism to influence customers' propensity for value co-creation.
Design/methodology/approach
Our data were collected from hotel customers who had experienced interactions with service-oriented AI. Through purposive sampling, 350 survey responses were collected. We analyzed the survey data using covariance-based structural equation modeling (CB-SEM).
Findings
This study has two key findings. Firstly, customers' propensity for value co-creation is favorably facilitated by the anthropomorphism of service-oriented AI. Secondly, the anthropomorphism of service-oriented AI can strengthen customers' perceptions of cuteness and service capacity, elicit a sense of novelty, and enhance customers' propensity to collaborate with service-oriented AI to create value. These findings address the research gaps by focusing on customer engagement through service-oriented AI and provide a theoretical basis for subsequent practical endeavors in the field.
Originality/value
Integrating the PAD emotional state model with the social information processing theory, this study explores the effects of service-oriented AI's anthropomorphism on customers' propensity for value co-creation.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the combined effects of the deterministic surface roughness and porous structure on the lubrication property of the multi-layer bearing.
Design/methodology/approach
Digital filtering technique and Kozeny-Carman equation are used to simulate the random Gauss surface and the internal pore structure of the porous bearing, respectively. Effects of surface morphology, structure and pores on the lubrication property are discussed by using the finite difference method.
Findings
Results show that the lubrication performance of the multi-layer bearing increased with the increase of the surface roughness. Also, the transverse surface is better than that of the longitudinal surface. Moreover, lubricating property is getting worse with the increase of the height of each layer and the porosity. The lower permeability surface is beneficial to improve the lubrication performance when the total porosity is certain.
Originality/value
The effect of the Gauss roughness parameters on the detail of lubrication performance are analysed, such as the migration of the oil film rupture point position, the expansion of the pressure distribution region and the fluctuation of the pressure distribution curve with the roughness parameters. The combined effects of surface roughness, multi-layer structure and the internal pore parameters on the hydrodynamic behaviours of multi-layer porous bearing are analysed. This work is beneficial for the analysis of the tribological property and the structural design of multi-layer bearing.

Abstract
Purpose
Powder lubrication is widely used in industrial production, but most of the research that analyze the wear process and speculate on the wear mechanism of the tested specimens lacks reliability, and it is difficult to reveal the essence of the friction and wear process. The purpose of this paper is using the optical in situ observation method to observe the condition of the powder lubrication layer in real time and dynamically, and directly obtain the morphology change of the specimen during the whole wear process, which is helpful to the establishment of new tribological basic theories such as friction and wear mechanism and lubrication theory.
Design/methodology/approach
Mechanical model of powder lubrication is established considering asperity and powder layer, and the influence of adhesion effect on load and friction force is analyzed. The finite difference method is used to solve the above physical model, and the influence of the adhesion effect on load and friction force is analyzed. The total load and friction of the friction pair are composed of two parts: fluid and asperity. Based on the optical in situ observation method to build a test platform. The interface of the adhesion stage was observed by SEM.
Findings
When the film thickness ratio is less than 1, the local damage and diffusion of the powder layer are basically completed and the adhesion stage is entered. At this time, the asperity is not fully loaded, the powder layer is loaded by 50%, the asperity is less loaded, the deformation is small and the possibility of plastic flow is reduced. However, in the adhesion stage, the friction force is basically generated between asperity, and the friction force ratio of the asperity is 80%. Heavy load and surface roughness of the specimen are the necessary conditions for the powder adhesion period.
Practical implications
In this paper, the failure process of the powder layer at the friction interface with different roughness and load is studied based on the optical in situ observation method. Second, the contact surface with the micro-convex body and powder layer is simulated, and the influence of adhesion effect on the mechanical properties of the real contact surface in the process of powder lubrication is analyzed, thus providing theoretical guidance for mechanical processing, workpiece operation and lubrication design.
Originality/value
Mechanical model considering asperities and powder layer powder lubrication was established to analyze the influence of the adhesion effect on load and friction. Based on the optical in situ observation method to build a test platform. The tests found that the failure process of the powder lubricating layer includes five stages: powder complete stage, local failure stage, local failure diffusion stage, powder adhesion stage and complete failure stage.

The purpose of this paper was to attempt to confirm the root cause of wafer damage issue by heavy Al wire wedge bonding and propose some permanent solutions for it.
Design/methodology/approach
The infra red–optical beam-induced resistance change (IR-OBIRCH) analysis defines the position of an abnormal hotspot. A cross section and an scanning electron microscope (SEM) confirmed the wafer damage issue and its position. Based on the position of wafer damage, the wedge tool with different life and Al buildup was checked found to be on the wedge tool. Finite element analysis (FEA) modeling analysis and simulation experiment guarantee the Al buildup, and low wedge deformation thickness (WDT) can cause the wafer damage issue. Finally, design of experiment (DOE) experiments are designed to optimize wedge tool dimension and wedge-bond parameters to eliminate wafer damage issue.
Findings
Wafer damage issue caused the Vpwr-OUTPUT leakage issue by IR-OBIRCH analysis. Al buildup was found on wedge tool with different life and its size gets larger along with the increase in wedge tool life. Low WDT and bigger Al buildup can cause the wafer damage. Designing new wedge tool and parameters optimization can increase WDT.
Research limitations/implications
Because of the limitation of time and resources, finite element method (FEM) modeling and wedge tool dimension could not be studied more deeply.
Originality/value
This paper sets an example on how to find out the root cause of wafer damage by a step-by-step analysis and put forward a quick solution accordingly for the issue.

Abstract
Purpose
Artificial electromagnetic (EM) medium and devices are designed with integrated micro- and macro-structures depending on the EM transmittance performance, which is difficult to fabricate by the conventional processes. Three-dimensional (3D) printing provides a new solution for the delicate artificial EM medium. This paper aims to first review the applications of 3D printing in the fabrication of EM medium briefly, mainly focusing on photonic crystals, metamaterials and gradient index (GRIN) devices. Then, a new design and fabrication strategy is proposed for the EM medium based on the 3D printing process, which was verified by the implementation of a 3D 90o Eaton lens based on GRIN metamaterials.
Design/methodology/approach
A new design and manufacturing strategy driven by the physical (EM transmittance) performance is proposed to illustrate the realization procedures of EM medium based device with controllable micro- and macro-structures. Stereolithography-based 3D printing process is used to obtain the designed EM device, an GRIN Eaton lens. The EM transmittance of the Eaton lens was validated experimentally and by simulation.
Findings
A 3D 90o Eaton lens was realized based on GRIN metamaterials structure according to the proposed design and manufacturing strategy, which had the broadband (12-18 GHz) and low loss characteristic. The feasibility of 3D printing for the artificial EM medium and GRIN devices has been verified for the further real applications in the industries.
Originality/value
The applications of 3D printing in artificial EM medium and devices were systematically reviewed. A new design strategy driven by physical performance for the EM device was proposed and validated by the firstly 3D printed 3D Eaton lens.

Design/methodology/approach
The research establishes the mathematical models of velocity, flux and pressure fields, etc., for lubrication performance distribution, and analyzes its load-bearing behavior.
Findings
When hydrostatic thrust bearing’s rotating speed is within ω1-ω2, the oil flow generated by plate’s relative motion is greater than that generated by pressure difference and centrifugal force, and in the opposite direction, making it not easy to emit friction heat, so the rotating speed range ω1-ω2 should be avoided for bearing.
Originality/value
The research provides powerful theoretical basis for the structure design, operating reliability and practical application of large size rectangular oil pad hydrostatic thrust bearing, and realizing the prediction of its lubrication performance.

Abstract
Purpose
Scientific knowledge is usually regarded as the basis for the management of natural environment and wildlife in ecotourism. However, recently, social construction approaches challenge the domination of natural science. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the social construction paradigm in ecotourism management, through conducting a content analysis of social media comments on an accident caused by a monkey in a Chinese ecotourism area. The results show that people commented on the accident from five aspects. First, the public expressed their compassion and mourning for the deceased. Second, people thought that the death was casual and absurd, yet life is full of uncertainty and people should cherish the present. Third, people commented much on the deceased tourist’s company, which is a famous sugar brand well entrenched in many Chinese people’s childhood memories. Fourth, people constructed the monkey as Monkey King, Golden Monkey (another famous sugar brand in China) and as a criminal. Fifth, people also gave their opinions about possible causes of the accident, namely, it was caused by “the mandate of heaven,” company competition, conspiracies or poor management. This study only seriously considers the comments about the mandate of heaven. This explanation is consistent with the Chinese traditional construction of nature as “heaven,” which is believed to dominate the natural and human worlds. Most people, including the managers, accepted the accident and did not explore further about the reasons for the accident. In this case, such a social construction of nature does not aid effective ecotourism management.

This paper seeks to discuss the genealogical sources for Chinese immigrants as well as the settlement of Chinese in the USA and the historical evolution of Chinese names, their origins, arrangement and development. It aims to cover the origins of various classes of Chinese surnames, followed by the content description of a traditional genealogical book for jiapu.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper researches the various ways that a Chinese person can find out about their ancestry.
Findings
The paper reveals the roles of libraries, including serving the needs of patrons interested in genealogical research, preserving and interpreting information through oral and family history projects and collaborating with other libraries through interlibrary loan, document delivery, library consortia, collection management and international resource‐sharing.
Research limitations/implications
The study provides information on where and how to locate the genealogical resources for researching the genealogy of a Chinese family.
Originality/value
The paper analyzes the value of genealogical research as a documentary source for population history, life expectancy in a clan, marriages and family connections, as well as lineage organizations and inter‐lineage relations.
