Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to study the attitude toward purchasing luxury fashion of young consumers based on an extended model that integrates the constructs of the theory of reasoned action (TRA), identity theory, social identity theory, affect–behavior–cognition (ABC) model of attitude and brand attractiveness.
Design/methodology/approach
A purposive sampling approach was used to collect data from 237 young luxury fashion consumers in Hong Kong. Results were analyzed using partial least square.
Findings
The findings revealed that self-identity predicts affect-based attitudes (i.e. passive engagement and active engagement), and social identity predicts cognition-based attitude (i.e. attitude toward celebrity endorsement). Moreover, both affect- and cognition-based attitudes were found to be antecedents that enhanced brand attractiveness, which in turn positively affected purchase intention.
Research limitations/implications
This study collected data from Generation Z. Although this generation is the world’s most influential consumer group and is highly engaged in social media, the findings may not be representative of the entire population in Hong Kong. Therefore, the findings should be used cautiously in the whole luxury fashion industry.
Originality/value
This study extends the understanding of luxury fashion purchase intention from TRA to the connection among identity, social identity theories and ABC model of attitude and brand attractiveness. The findings of this study also contribute to practical insights on developing suitable marketing strategies for the Asian luxury fashion market.

Abstract
Purpose
This study addresses the remarkable research gap in the existing literature on Chat Generative Pre-training Transformer (ChatGPT), which has primarily explored its functional benefits rather than the psychological states of its users. By integrating the self-concept theory and functional theory of attitudes, this study develops a moderated-mediating model to examine the impact of the bandwagon effect on users’ habit formation and subsequent feelings of pride associated with the ChatGPT application.
Design/methodology/approach
This study analyzed self-reported survey data from 568 respondents from mainland China using partial least squares structural equation modeling.
Findings
The findings reveal that the bandwagon effect indirectly influences users’ pride through the formation of habits related to ChatGPT applications. This study also identifies the boundary condition of social-adjustive attitude, which strengthens both the direct relationship between the bandwagon effect and habit formation and its indirect relationship with pride.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the field by offering a novel perspective on ChatGPT adoption, highlighting the role of self-concept and attitudinal functions in driving users’ intentions to utilize the technology, with a focus on the desire for pride as a motivating factor.

Abstract
Given the intense international competition brought on by globalisation, an organization's profit is largely determined by how it leverages its internal and external resources. This paper studies the production sourcing strategies adopted by the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the clothing industry together with their motivations for outsourcing, adoption of buyer-seller relationships, and satisfaction with their production sourcing performance. A conceptual framework was developed from the literature and tested using a questionnaire survey. Quantitative analysis showed that motivational factors (MFs) can affect an SME's satisfaction with its operational achievement; while host-country and location MFs can affect its strategic achievement. In addition, firms adopting a pure transaction approach seemed to be negatively motivated by the total-cost factor; and those adopting a more diverse sourcing strategy were more likely to be motivated by the corporate factor so as to develop appropriate buyer-seller relationships with vendors, and to be satisfied with their operational performance. This paper contributes to a deeper understanding of business networking from the perspectives of SMEs in regard to their pursuit of production sourcing; and demonstrates how clothing SMEs adopt production sourcing strategies to improve their production sourcing performance.

Abstract
Purpose
Recent management literature demonstrates a growing interest in strategic networking. The aim of this paper is to explore the adoption of strategic networks using Hong Kong clothing industry as the context because the influence of Asian cultures is under‐researched.
Design/methodology/approach
Three key research questions about asset specificity, years of relationship, and size of the supplier base were developed from the literature. Qualitative data were collected from in‐depth interviews with senior executives at five large clothing companies in Hong Kong.
Findings
The qualitative findings confirm that the specific asset investment, reciprocal or one‐way, has a positive impact on the development of strategic networking; that enterprises strive hard to maintain longer relationships with key supplier members; and that a small supplier base is widely adopted by the sample firms.
Practical implications
The implications for managerial practice are that strong strategic networking is needed as transaction‐specific assets can safeguard the network relationship; that a long‐term relationship enables effective transactions; and that managing a small number of suppliers helps to stabilize network relationships.
Originality/value
This paper represents an initial attempt to include Asian cultures in the study of strategic network concepts within one globalized industry – the Hong Kong clothing industry. The paper also demonstrates to practicing managers how strategic networks made up of manufacturers and their suppliers are adopted and maintained, and in turn, guides practicing managers on how to allocate resources appropriately to develop a strategic network.

The lead‐free solder joint reliability of several printed circuit board mounted high‐density packages, when subjected to temperature cycling was investigated by finite element modelling. The packages were a 256‐pin plastic ball grid array (PBGA), a 388‐pin PBGA, and a 1657‐pin ceramic column grid array. Emphasis was placed on the determination of the creep responses (e.g. stress, strain, and strain energy density) of the lead‐free solder joints of these packages.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to develop and evaluate an inexpensive and durable metal cutting wheel using thermal spraying and polymer binding to enhance the wheel’s cutting capability by bonding hard particles (abrasives) onto the wheel.
Design/methodology/approach
Thermal spraying was used to deposit the coating powder (chromium and silicon carbide) onto high carbon substrate. Wear loss and depth of cut as function of load, time and speed were evaluated on uncoated and coated wheel.
Findings
The coated cutting wheel performed better than the uncoated cutting wheel in terms of wear performance. However, the coated cutting wheel experienced coating peel off at higher load and cutting speed, leading to a decrease in wear resistance of the cutting wheel. Thus, optimally cutting should be performed either at low cutting speed and high load or at high cutting speed and low load to prolong the wheel’s lifetime.
Originality/value
The outcome of the study will be beneficial for academicians and industrial working on cutting wheel process.

Hong Kong Film Award winners and nominees, core films within genres, and core reference works both general and theoretical from experts in the field of Hong Kong martial arts film research have been highlighted. Web sites are suggested that provide reviews of Hong Kong martial arts films, biographical information on a variety of actors and actresses as well as comprehensive bibliographic information on select films. Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the design, materials, and assembly process aspects of a study, conducted by The High Density Packaging Users Group Consortium, into process development and solder joint reliability of high‐density packages on printed circuit boards using a low‐melting temperature lead‐free solder (Sn‐57 wt%Bi‐1 wt%Ag).
Design/methodology/approach
The components studied include several SMT package types and various lead configurations. The assembly process addresses the low‐temperature lead‐free assembly process, inspection and analysis of these boards and packages.
Findings
It was found that, the assembly process of the SnBiAg lead‐free test boards is very robust and the assembly yield is almost 100 percent.
Originality/value
The paper is of value by presenting a description of the rationale and material set used for an experiment to test SMT assembly and reliability characteristics using the 57Bi‐42Sn‐1Ag alloy, which has a melting point of 139°C.

Abstract
Several finite element models were proposed to investigate the effects of voids and their interactions on SMT solder joint reliability in thermal mismatch loading. Both linear elastic analysis and non‐linear and time‐dependent finite element analysis were performed on models with different sizes and locations of voids in solder joints. The focus was on the interactions of the two voids. Various distances between voids are considered. Constitutive equations accounting for both plasticity and creep for one solder material were assumed and implemented in a finite element program. The following observations have been obtained: (i) the stress and strain in a solder joint of two voids are different from those of a one void joint; (ii) the stress and strain reach a maximum for a particular void size and location either along the interface of the solder joint or at the edges of voids; (iii) the initiation of interfacial debonding may be induced by the interaction of the voids; (iv) creep due to thermal cycling has a significant effect on solder joint reliability.

Abstract
Purpose
COVID-19 has changed the way we teach and learn, including service-learning (S-L). This study examines the impacts of the work-from-home (WFH) mode on the work performance and learning outcomes of student interns on an eight-week S-L internship programme, and the key factors in terms of its success.
Design/methodology/approach
A qualitative research methodology is adopted by interviewing nine student interns and four supervisors from three community partner organisations (CPOs) to understand their experiences of how the WFH mode has impacted intern work performance and learning outcomes. Thematic analysis is used for the data analysis.
Findings
The interns uncover a number of negative WFH impacts on the S-L internship, including ineffective communication and management practice, low work efficiency and quality, a lack of task variety and learning opportunities and distractions in the home environment. Furthermore, five critical factors for WFH success are also identified, including prior preparation, effective communication systems, personal motivators at work, the nature of the job in relation to it being suited to the WFH mode, and organisational support.
Originality/value
The study examines impacts on student work performance and learning outcomes in an S-L summer internship programme operating under the WFH mode as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Key success factors and practical recommendations have been developed for enhancing the future success of S-L internships operating under the WFH mode.
