Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to focus on investigating the failure mode of fused deposition modeling (FDM) fabricated parts by using acoustic emission (AE) technique.
Design/methodology/approach
Considering the special prototyping way of FDM, the failure modes of FDM-fabricated parts were investigated experimentally. One test was carried out and the other two describe what has been observed on this basis. Acoustic emissions are obtained during the tensile process. AE features of peak frequency, energy and amplitude are extracted and preliminarily analyzed. Then, the unsupervised clustering method of k-means is applied to explore the relationship between the failure modes and the AE signals.
Findings
Failure modes of filament debonding and breakage can be successfully recognized by the pattern recognition technique of k-means.
Practical implications
The results obtained can help us understand the failure process of FDM printed parts. This will provide an available monitoring method in the application of FDM-fabricated parts.
Originality/value
This paper has investigated and characterized the failure modes of FDM fabricated parts for the first time.

Abstract
Purpose
Online-to-offline (O2O) knowledge-sharing economy platforms have emerged as a new public channel for matching up knowledge providers with knowledge seekers. It can facilitate offline provision and consumption of high-quality tacit knowledge around a topic upon online search and payment (called offline knowledge service transaction). However, limited research investigated this new knowledge-sharing phenomenon in the field of knowledge management (KM). The purpose of this paper is to enrich KM literature by developing a theoretical model to explore determinants of offline knowledge service transactions via O2O knowledge-sharing economy platforms from both quality and price perspectives.
Design/methodology/approach
The model was tested with objective data crawled from Zaihang – a leading O2O knowledge-sharing economy platform in China.
Findings
The results show that, in the context of O2O knowledge-sharing economy, transactions of an offline knowledge service are positively related to its provider’s popularity, but negatively related to the price. Moreover, knowledge seekers are more likely to accept and purchase a high-priced service of a knowledge topic with a higher overall review score and supplied by a provider with lower popularity and shorter response time. However, the length of offline knowledge service has no significant association with its transactions.
Originality/value
This study contributes to KM literature through investigating a new phenomenon of tacit knowledge sharing (including provision and consumption) in the context of O2O service and the sharing economy. The results give implications for knowledge providers and platform managers to facilitate online transactions of offline knowledge services.

Abstract
Purpose
This research paper aims to explore the relationship between ISO 9000 certification and organisational performance by developing an ISO 9000 relationship model.
Design/methodology/approach
A survey instrument was used for quantitative data collection based on a global survey in collaboration with the Anderson School of Business, UCLA. All items were measured on a five point modified Likert scale. The data were analysed statistically by means of Statistical Package for Social Scientists. Factor analysis was performed. Multiple regressions was used to test the hypotheses. Both validity and reliability of the measures were checked in order to reduce measurement error.
Findings
The results show a positive and significant relationship between certification practices (implementation, organisational commitment and planning) with operational performance. However, the relationship between these practices with business performance was found to be positive but not significant of the variables we studied, organisational commitment to certification was found to be most strongly related to operational and business performance.
Practical implications
The success of implementing ISO 9000 certification would be increased (operational and business performance) if it is well planned and implemented when the philosophical quality aspects of the organisation are coupled with employee training, periodic audits, corrective action and commitment at all levels of the organisation.
Originality/value
This paper's unique contribution to the literature is the rigorous research and analysis which statistically identify the best predictors for successful ISO 9000 implementation. The results demystify the confusion and contradictions which exist in the literature on the efficacy of ISO 9000 certification.

Abstract
Purpose
While manufacturing organisations were early adopters of ISO 9000, lately, many service sector organisations have also pursued adoption. The aim of this paper is to compare the experiences with the standard of the two sectors.
Design/methodology/approach
The research collected data from 149 service and 160 manufacturing organisations using a common survey measurement instrument.
Findings
Results show that there are no statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of time and cost of obtaining registration. Also, there are only small points of differences in motivation for registration and difficulties faced. There are greater differences between the groups in terms of benefits gained and management practices associated with the standard.
Originality/value
These results provide interesting insights into how the two groups perceive and engage with the standard, how cross‐industry diffusion could be taking place, and the veracity of the claims made about the universal applicability of the standard. These findings imply that service organisations can learn from the experiences of the manufacturing sector, but copying carte blanche the implementation strategies is fraught with risks. Further, the standard is not universally applicable and may need industry‐specific tailoring.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to explore the usability of the andragogical process model for learning to develop, deliver and evaluate training to improve communication between adapted transport drivers and people living with communication disabilities and to identify the successes and limitations of the model in this context.
Design/methodology/approach
Two aspects were considered to explore the usability of the andragogical process model for learning: a comparison between the elements of the model and the designing, delivering and evaluating processes of the training; and an appreciation evaluation.
Findings
The model was useful to systematically design, deliver and evaluate workplace training that was appreciated by the learners, even though most of the model’s elements were modified to meet the constraints of the trainer and the organization. Assessing the needs for learning, establishing a human climate conducive to learning and choosing appropriate training methods emerged as key elements that contributed to a successful appreciation of this training.
Originality/value
This study is one of the few that examines the possibility of a systematic application of the andragogical process model for learning to workplace training. Its results suggest that the model could be considered for application by non-professional trainers or external trainers from a workplace, but that organizational constraints must be considered when using it.

Purpose
The purpose of this study is to propose a data-driven perspective to analyze enterprise information system (EIS) feature use for understanding what and how the system features are actually used in the organization.
Design/methodology/approach
An empirical study was conducted by analyzing information system (IS) log data collected from a well-known shipbuilding manufacturer in China. The multiple analytical approach employed in this study includes social network analysis, association rules learning and human dynamics.
Findings
This study first classified IS users into 41 core users and 325 general users. Then 24 core modules and 54 general modules were identified by social network analysis, and the correlation between them was analyzed. Finally, we found that the IS use time intervals for different user groups followed a power-law distribution, and IS use displayed strong burstiness and weak memory.
Originality/value
This study proposes a data-driven perspective to investigate how the system features are actually used in the organization. This study contributes to the literature and opens a new avenue for future IS use research. Furthermore, this study informs managers how to diagnose, maintain and optimize the implemented IS in order to maximize IS benefits.

Purpose
With the yearly increase of mileage and passenger volume in China's high-speed railway, the problems of traditional paper railway tickets have become increasingly prominent, including complexity of business handling process, low efficiency of ticket inspection and high cost of usage and management. This paper aims to make extensive references to successful experiences of electronic ticket applications both domestically and internationally. The research on key technologies and system implementation of railway electronic ticket with Chinese characteristics has been carried out.
Design/methodology/approach
Research in key technologies is conducted including synchronization technique in distributed heterogeneous database system, the grid-oriented passenger service record (PSR) data storage model, efficient access to massive PSR data under high concurrency condition, the linkage between face recognition service platforms and various terminals in large scenarios, and two-factor authentication of the e-ticket identification code based on the key and the user identity information. Focusing on the key technologies and architecture the of existing ticketing system, multiple service resources are expanded and developed such as electronic ticket clusters, PSR clusters, face recognition clusters and electronic ticket identification code clusters.
Findings
The proportion of paper ticket printed has dropped to 20%, saving more than 2 billion tickets annually since the launch of the application of E-ticketing nationwide. The average time for passengers to pass through the automatic ticket gates has decreased from 3 seconds to 1.3 seconds, significantly improving the efficiency of passenger transport organization. Meanwhile, problems of paper ticket counterfeiting, reselling and loss have been generally eliminated.
Originality/value
E-ticketing has laid a technical foundation for the further development of railway passenger transport services in the direction of digitalization and intelligence.

Abstract
This chapter provides an overview of the explanations and factors affecting dividend policy. This study employs a systematic literature review approach to review a large sample of studies related to the dividend puzzle. Although the analysis reveals mixed evidence involving the theories and determinants of dividend policy, some determinants appear in numerous studies. However, no consensus exists on an optimal dividend to resolve the dividend puzzle, and the authors propose a model to deal with the same. When examining dividend policy, researchers should consider the firm, market, behavior, and other determinants. When making significant dividend or stock decisions, managers and shareholders should also contemplate the factors, interactions, inadequacies, and consequences. Future researchers should strive to take a more comprehensive view when resolving the dividend puzzle. This study provides a current and complete picture of dividend policy's available theories and empirical determinants. Its significant contribution is identifying some of the more consistently essential determinants of dividend policy while proposing a holistic model to address the prevailing dividend dilemma.
